Ready for Monday
Penny (calf), who was designated to return from injured reserve Friday, said that he shouldn't have any limitations Monday against the Saints, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times report...
Impact
Penny has been out since Week 1 and returns to a backfield missing top option Chris Carson (neck). Fellow veteran Alex Collins has filled in effectively, but he's now missing practice time with a groin injury, potentially leaving just Penny, DeeJay Dallas and Travis Homer as the options for Monday. It's possible Penny would be the lead runner in that scenario, though injuries of his own have limited him to four games over the past two seasons. Dallas could also be the choice, while Homer has mostly been used for pass blocking and third downs. Expect the Seahawks to formally activate Penny from IR by Sunday.

Returns to practice
Penny (calf) took part in Thursday's practice, signaling that the Seahawks have designated him for a return from injured reserve, Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.
Impact
The 25-year-old was back on the field for the first time since Sept. 12, when he injured his calf in the Seahawks' season-opening win over the Colts. According to Ty Dane Gonzalez of SI.com, Penny was a full participant in the portion of Thursday's practice that was open to the media, which seemingly bodes well for the running back making good on head coach Pete Carroll's prediction that he'll be available to play Monday against the Saints. Meanwhile, Chris Carson (neck) is stuck on IR through Week 9, and the next man up out of the backfield, Alex Collins (groin) didn't practice Thursday and is uncertain to suit up this week. As such, Penny could find himself with a decent-sized workload Week 7, assuming the Seahawks are comfortable reinstating him from IR prior to Saturday's deadline for roster moves

Looks to be nearing return
Coach Pete Carroll said Monday that Penny (calf) will be "back to full speed" this week, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
Impact
Penny has yet to be officially designated to return from IR, but based on Carroll's comments it looks like such a transaction is forthcoming. With Chris Carson (neck) on IR and Alex Collins (undisclosed) also dealing with injury, it's possible that Penny could handle immediate opportunities versus the Saints on Monday, if he's cleared to retake the field in time.

May practice next week
Coach Pete Carroll said Friday that Penny (calf) is expected to return to practice next week when he's first eligible to be designated to return from injured reserve, Curtis Crabtr...
Impact
While Penny has been dealing with a strained calf since the season opener, the Seahawks didn't place him on IR until just before Week 4. Thus, his time away from practice started ticking at that point, and Sunday's game in Pittsburgh will mark his third that he'll be on the reserve list. Elsewhere in the backfield, starter Chris Carson (neck) himself may be going to injured reserve soon, meaning Penny could get back in the mix as soon as Week 7 against the Saints if he proves his health, beginning next Thursday. In the meantime, Alex Collins will handle early downs for Seattle, with DeeJay Dallas and Travis Homer around for any RB work that lingers.

Could return Week 6
Coach Pete Carroll suggested Friday that Penny (calf) could return for Week 6 against Pittsburgh, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
Impact
Penny's potential return takes on added importance with Chris Carson bothered by a neck injury, though at this point the 2018 first-round pick may be stuck behind Alex Collins as well. Still, the Seahawks hope to get Penny back from IR in Week 6, as he'd at least be another option for their banged-up offense. Penny last played in Week 1.

Shifts to injured reserve
Penny (calf) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
Impact
It's probably not good news that Penny was placed on injured reserve after multiple weeks missed due to a calf injury. The 2018 first-round pick reportedly had a great training camp and was pushing for a crucial backup role behind Chris Carson, but that'll be put on hold for now. Penny has played in just 14 of the last 35 games due to a variety of injuries.

Still sidelined Sunday
Penny (calf) has been ruled out for Sunday's game at Seattle, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
Impact
Penny has been hindered by a left calf injury all season, containing him to one appearance Week 1. Since then, he's been sidelined and will miss a third consecutive contest this weekend. Chris Carson is Seattle's unquestioned lead back, and with Penny out Travis Homer and Alex Collins again will handle any RB reps that linger.

Not practicing yet
Penny (calf) was a non-participant at Thursday's practice, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
Impact
As expected, the Seahawks continue to exercise caution with Penny, the oft-injured back who has made just four appearances the past two seasons. On a positive note, coach Pete Carroll told Boyle on Wednesday that Penny's left calf is closing in on 100 percent health. Still, there's an expectation Penny misses a third game in a row Sunday in San Francisco, which would allow Travis Homer and Alex Collins to handle the RB snaps that Chris Carson yields to the reserves.

Trending toward another absence
Penny (calf) is unlikely to be available for Sunday's game at San Francisco, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports. "I don't expect him to be back this week," coach Pet...
Impact
Carroll added that Penny's left calf is close to 100 percent, and he could suit up in his current state, but the team is exercising caution with the running back, likely due to his crowded medical chart. On Wednesday, Penny didn't practice, but he'll have a few more chances to do so before the weekend. If Penny sits out a third game in a row Sunday, Travis Homer and Alex Collins will split the RB reps that don't go to starter Chris Carson.

Still not practicing
Penny (calf) was a non-participant at Thursday's practice, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
Impact
Since coach Pete Carroll told Brady Henderson of ESPN.com on Wednesday that Penny was unlikely to play Sunday in Minnesota, the running back hasn't logged any activity on the practice field this week. Penny has another chance to get in some reps Friday, but if he doesn't he may be destined for a second DNP in a row since straining his calf Week 1.

Not in line to return Sunday
Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said Wednesday that Penny (calf) isn't expected to play Sunday at Minnesota, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports.
Impact
Carroll included a caveat during Wednesday's media session, stating an "unexpected turn" in Penny's health could allow him to suit up this weekend. It'll be interesting to see if Penny gets on the practice field to kick off Week 3 prep, with the Seahawks' first injury report set to be released later Wednesday.
