INJURIES

Plays just nine snaps Saturday Campbell wasn't targeted in Saturday's 27-26 preseason loss to the Lions.
Impact Campbell played nine snaps on the first drive, but Nick Foles didn't look his way. Rookie Alec Pierce, who's competing with Campbell for a starting role, caught his only target for nine yards, so neither player did much to create separation in their competition. Campbell will likely be more involved in the Colts' preseason finale, Aug. 27 against the Buccaneers.

No receptions in preseason debut Campbell was targeted twice in Saturday's preseason loss to Buffalo, but didn't have a catch and had a drop.
Impact Indy's passing game was sluggish as Matt Ryan had just 58 yards passing in four drives. The good news is that the oft-injured Campbell is healthy after having a sore hamstring last week in practice. Campbell started at wide receiver in a three-receiver set and has mostly started over rookie Alec Pierce in two-receiver sets in practice. Despite the lackluster first game, Campbell should get every chance for a sizeable role if he can stay on the field.

Returns to limited practice Campbell (hamstring) was a limited practice participant Wednesday, going through 7-on-7 drills with his teammates, George Bremer of The Anderson Herald Bulletin reports.
Impact Campbell was held out of practice Monday and said he would be back in action Wednesday, though he wasn't a full participant as anticipated. The 2019 second-round pick has played only 15 games through three seasons, but he's the favorite for slot work in Indianapolis and could even get some run outside in two-wideout formations, depending on the development of rookie second-round pick Alec Pierce.

Solid start keeps Campbell's comeback hopes on track in Indy

Parris Campbell arrived in Indianapolis four years ago with big expectations
AUGUST 10, 2022 • Associated Press
Notices minor hammy tightness Campbell was held out of practice Monday with a tight hamstring but said he'll be back on the field Wednesday, Zak Keefer of The Athletic reports.
Impact It sounds minor, though still worth making note of given Campbell's lengthy medical record. The 2019 second-round pick has played 15 games through three seasons, never once staying healthy for more than four consecutive contests. Campbell has a big opportunity this year, nonetheless, with he and rookie Alec Pierce reportedly getting most of the first-team WR snaps alongside No. 1 Michael Pittman. If it's those three at the top of the depth chart come Week 1, the 25-year-old Campbell likely will see a lot of work in the slot, though snaps in two-wide sets wouldn't be out of the question. First, though, he'll need to get his hamstring right.

Getting nod in two-WR sets Campbell began training camp as a starter with the first-team offense in two-receiver sets, 93.5 ESPN Indianapolis reports.
Impact Meanwhile, rookie Alec Pierce worked with the first- and second-team units. This isn't a surprise since the oft-injured Campbell is healthy for the moment and Pierce is a rookie (2022 2nd-round pick) who will need to earn his way into the starting lineup. Still, it's notable that Campbell is getting the nod in two-receiver sets. Campbell missed most of last season after having foot surgery in October, but he returned for Week 18 and now has remained healthy throughout the offseason. How long he stays that way is anyone's guess, as injuries have limited the 2019 second-round pick to 15 games total in three seasons.

Looking good this summer Campbell was busy at June minicamp, exclusively working with the first-team offense and catching passes all over the field, Zak Keefer of The Athletic reports.
Impact Campbell missed most of last season after having foot surgery in October, but he returned for Week 18 and now has remained healthy throughout the offseason. How long he stays that way is anyone's guess, as injuries have limited the 2019 second-round pick to 15 games total in three seasons. Campbell has the inside track for a top-three role at receiver nonetheless, facing weak competition for snaps behind No. 1 wideout Michael Pittman. Apart from Pittman, Campbell and second-round rookie Alec Pierce, the Colts have a host of undrafted young players and late-round picks at wide receiver.

Facing zero limitations Campbell (foot) said Wednesday that he feels great and hasn't had any physical limitations during the offseason, Stephen Holder of The Athletic reports.
Impact Campbell underwent foot surgery in the middle of last season and returned to play eight snaps in the Colts' forgettable Week 18 loss to the Jaguars. However, the wideout revealed Wednesday that he played in that contest with a plate and screws in his foot, which were removed two weeks after the season concluded, per Zak Keefer of The Athletic. Campbell has had three consecutive injury-plagued campaigns to start his career, and the Colts added Alec Pierce in the draft, so it's possible the Ohio State product could be facing an uphill battle to make Indianapolis' initial 53-man roster. However, Campbell is only due $1.1 million next season and is finally healthy, so the Colts won't take on much risk by rostering him with the hopes that he makes good on his potential in his fourth NFL season.

Colts may use draft on offense after beefing up defense

Indianapolis Colts coach Frank Reich began offseason workouts this week with another new quarterback and a beefed up defense
APRIL 22, 2022 • Associated Press
Plays eight snaps in return Campbell was targeted three times in Sunday's loss at Jacksonville and played eight snaps on offense.
Impact It was Campbell's first game since Week 6 due to foot surgery. Campbell played just six games and had 10 receptions for 162 yards with a touchdown. It was his third consecutive injury plagued season as he's played just 15 games in three seasons. With a $1.1 million salary in his final contract year in 2022, the Colts won't save a ton by releasing him. Given his inability to stay on the field, however, it's possible the Colts could release him and move in another direction.
