Ridley suspension for '22 makes WR area of need for Falcons

The NFL's suspension of wide receiver Calvin Ridley for at least the 2022 season for betting on games last season makes the position an area of increased emphasis for the Atlanta F...

Catches three passes in loss Zaccheaus caught all three of his targets for 47 yards during Sunday's 30-20 loss to the Saints.
Impact Zaccheaus finished second on the team in receiving yards behind Russell Gage (126), as Matt Ryan couldn't get on the same page with rookie tight end Kyle Pitts (two catches on five targets for eight yards). The third-year wideout finished the 2021 campaign with 31 receptions for 406 yards and three touchdowns, but he failed to take advantage of increased opportunities after Calvin Ridley (personal) left the team ahead of Week 8. Zaccheaus is set to become a free agent this offseason, but it's unclear what type of market he will draw, so a potential return to Atlanta certainly isn't out of the question, especially if Ridley isn't going to return in 2022.

Non-factor in loss Zaccheaus caught two of three targets for eight yards during Sunday's 29-15 loss to the Bills.
Impact With Calvin Ridley (personal) still away from the team and Tajae Sharpe (illness) in COVID-19 protocols, Zaccheaus once again drew the start opposite Russell Gage. However, despite playing 51 of Atlanta's 53 offensive snaps, the 5-foot-8 wideout was unable to crack fantasy relevancy as Kyle Pitts (69 yards) and Russell Gage (50 yards) dominated Matt Ryan's attention. Zaccheaus continues to garner plenty of snaps but has failed to generate any consistent production, making him a risky fantasy option against the Saints in Week 18.

Two catches in win Zaccheaus caught two of his four targets for 32 yards during Sunday's 20-16 win over the Lions.
Impact With Calvin Ridley (personal) away from the team and Tajae Sharpe (foot) sidelined for Week 16, Zaccheaus drew the start opposite of Russell Gage. However, Matt Ryan once again relied heavily on his tight ends, as Kyle Pitts (6 catches for 102 yards) and Hayden Hurst (two catches for 21 yards and a touchdown) were the most productive fantasy pass catchers for the Falcons on Sunday. Zaccheaus continues to garner plenty of snaps, but he has failed to develop any consistent production, making him a risky fantasy option against the Bills in Week 17.

Likely set for starting assignment Zaccheaus is expected to start and could play heavy snaps opposite top receiver Russell Gage in Week 16 with Tajae Sharpe (foot) listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Li...
Impact Zaccheaus has already been hovering between 40 and 62 percent snap shares in each of the past eight weeks while Calvin Ridley (personal) has been away from the team, averaging 3.1 targets per game during that stretch. The 24-year-old could now get the opportunity to see both his playing time and targets tick up another notch, as Christian Blake and Frank Darby -- who have combined to play 82 snaps on offense all season -- represent the only other receivers on the roster who might help fill in for Sharpe. Bair speculates that the Falcons may also have running back Cordarrelle Patterson and tight end Kyle Pitts line up at receiver spots more often to help compensate for the expected absences of Ridley and Sharpe.

Red-zone woes move Falcons closer to another losing season

Red-zone failures have left the Atlanta Falcons facing elimination from playoff contention
DECEMBER 20, 2021 • Associated Press
Two catches in loss Zaccheaus caught both of his targets for 53 yards during Sunday's 31-13 loss to the 49ers.
Impact Zaccheaus wasn't targeted in the first half, but on the Falcons' second drive of the third quarter, Matt Ryan found the 5-foot-8 wideout deep down the middle of the field for 49 yards. Russell Gage (11 targets) and Kyle Pitts (seven targets) continue to dominate the majority of Ryan's attention, as no one else saw more than two targets. As long as Calvin Ridley (personal) remains away from the team, Zaccheaus will likely garner plenty of snaps, but he hasn't proven to be a consistent fantasy option at any point this season.

Held without a target in Week 14 Zaccheaus wasn't targeted during Sunday's 29-21 win over the Panthers.
Impact Zaccheaus played 29 offensive snaps but didn't record a target for the first time since Week 1. Matt Ryan's reliance on his tight ends and running backs continues to mean mediocre numbers for all of his wideouts except for Russell Gage. As long as Calvin Ridley (personal) remains away from the team, Zaccheaus will likely garner plenty of opportunities, but he hasn't proven to be a consistent fantasy option at any point this season.
DECEMBER 13, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Four touches in Week 13 Zaccheaus caught three of his five targets for 44 yards and also added one rushing attempt for two yards during Sunday's 30-17 loss to the Buccaneers.
Impact Zaccheaus finished tied with Cordarrelle Patterson and Tajae Sharpe for third on the team in targets, but he was able to significantly outpace the two in total receiving yards. The third-year wideout's 44 receiving yards were his second-highest total of the season, and the most he's produced since his breakout Week 9 performance (three catches for 58 yards and two touchdowns). Nonetheless, slot man Russell Gage (11 catches for 130 yards) continues to be Matt Ryan's go-to reciever while Calvin Ridley (personal) remains away from the team. Zaccheaus will likely continue to see plenty of playing time to warrant attention, but his sporadic production makes him a risky fantasy option on a week-to-week basis.

Non-factor in win Zaccheaus caught one of two targets for five yards during Sunday's 21-14 win over the Jaguars.
Impact Zaccheaus appeared to be trending in the right direction after racking up eight catches for 103 yards and two touchdowns over a three-game stretch, but he was a non-factor once again in Week 12. Slot man Russell Gage (six catches for 62 yards and a touchdown) continues to be Matt Ryan's favorite wideout while Calvin Ridley (personal) remains away from the team. However, Atlanta's offense also remains heavily reliant on its tight ends and running backs in the passing game, which significantly impacts Zaccheaus' fantasy upside.
NOVEMBER 29, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Sees five targets in loss Zaccheaus caught three of his five targets for 23 yards during Thursday's 25-0 loss to the Patriots.
Impact Zaccheaus' five targets and three receptions tied him with Kyle Pitts for second on the team, but Russell Gage paced all Falcons' pass catchers with five catches on eight targets. With Calvin Ridley (personal) on the non-football injury list, the 5-foot-8 wideout has totaled 15 targets, eight receptions, 93 yards and two touchdowns over his last three games. Zaccheaus appears to be trending in the right direction, but he will likely remain a risky option despite the uptick in production.

Falcons' slumping offense handed first shutout in 6 years

Targeted seven times in loss Zaccheaus caught two of seven targets for 22 yards during Sunday's 43-3 loss to the Cowboys.
Impact Zacchaeus was targeted a season-high seven times during Sunday's loss, but he was only able to record two receptions. His seven targets tied him with Kyle Pitts for the team high, and his 22 yards were good for the second most, behind Pitts' 60 receiving yards. With Calvin Ridley (personal) on the non-football injury report, Zacchaeus has totaled 10 targets for 70 yards and two touchdowns over his last two games. Despite the uptick in production, he will likely remain a risky flex option against the Patriots in Week 11.

Scores twice in Week 9 win Zaccheaus caught all three of his targets for 58 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 27-25 win over the Saints.
Impact Zaccheaus wasn't targeted often, but he made the most of his few opportunities. He secured touchdowns of three and six yards in the second and fourth quarters, respectively, and added a 49-yard reception in the third. Zaccheaus came into this game with just one touchdown all season and no more than 32 yards in any previous contest, so he'll be tough to trust in Week 10 against the Cowboys, even with top wide receiver Calvin Ridley (personal) still on the non-football injury list.
