Efficient in preseason loss Trubisky completed nine of 13 passes for 138 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 34-25 preseason loss to the Giants.

Impact With Josh Allen held out, Trubisky got the start and played the entire first half, capping his performance with an 11-yard TD toss to Dawson Knox in the second quarter. Trubisky is locked into the No. 2 QB spot for the Bills, a role that afforded him only 26 pass attempts over nine regular-season appearances in 2024, with most of that volume coming in a Week 18 start when nothing was on the line for Buffalo.

Impact Trubisky will get an opportunity to work with the first-team unit Saturday while franchise quarterback Josh Allen sits out. The expectation is that Trubisky will see action in all three of the Bills' preseason matchups, with the following two games coming Aug. 17 against the Bears and Aug. 23 versus Tampa Bay, though it's possible Allen gets a chance to suit up in one or both of those contests.

Competing for backup role Trubisky and Mike White are competing for a backup role that will likely extend throughout the preseason, Lance Lysowski reports.

Impact Trubisky made an appearance in nine games last season for the Bills, backing up quarterback Josh Allen. Though the 30-year-old was ahead of Mike White on the depth chart last season, Trubisky is entering his final season of a two-year, $5.2 million contract, making the ninth-year pro a potential cap casualty.

Tosses Week 18 touchdown Trubisky completed 15 of 21 passes for 101 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 23-16 loss to the Patriots. He added 12 rushing yards on four carries.

Impact Josh Allen played the first snap to keep his consecutive start streak alive before turning things over to Trubisky, who connected with Ray Davis for a two-yard TD in the second quarter. Trubisky then gave way to Mike White midway through the third quarter. It was the first extensive action of the season for either backup QB, and it will likely be their last as Allen will take back the reins of the offense when the Bills host the Broncos in the wild-card round next weekend.

Impact Trubisky is a decent fill-in fantasy guy, at least in terms of the wild wackiness of Week 18, but he's likely to cede a few snaps or a series to Josh Allen on the front end so Allen can keep his NFL active consecutive starts streak going. On top of that, the Bills are essentially using this as a preseason game, meaning Trubisky should get a good look from that point, but he may also need to yield a quarter of play or thereabouts to White on the back end of the game. The Bills have the capability of running up points no matter who is out there, especially when you consider their opponent might not mind getting the No. 1 overall pick in April. Just know that comparable options such as Joshua Dobbs or Aidan O'Connell might get a full game this week, while Trubisky will be some degree short.

Likely to get extended run Week 18 Trubisky is likely to play extensively in Sunday's game at New England, after head coach Sean McDermott said Monday that Josh Allen slated to start at quarterback but will "be out...

Impact The Bills are locked in as the AFC's No. 2 seed regardless of how Week 18 action plays out, and McDermott hinted that the team will use its regular-season finale as an opportunity to rest some key players ahead of the playoffs while getting more extended evaluations of players on the back end of the roster. The Bills will allow Allen to extend his streak of consecutive starts to 105 games Sunday, but he may only direct the offense for a possession or two before giving way to Trubisky, who has played just 53 snaps all season, mostly at the tail end of blowouts. Though he has played infrequently behind Allen in stints with Buffalo in 2021 and 2024, Trubisky made five appearances (two starts) for Pittsburgh a season ago and completed 67 of 107 pass attempts (62.6 percent) for 632 yards (5.9 YPA), four touchdowns and five interceptions while adding 54 yards and two scores on 16 carries.

Makes garbage-time cameo Trubisky completed his lone pass attempt for a three-yard gain and lost a yard on his lone carry in Monday's 47-10 win over the Jaguars.

Impact Trubisky directed the Buffalo offense for the final three possessions of the night after starting quarterback Josh Allen guided the Bills to a commanding 27-point lead through the early part of the fourth quarter. He mostly handed the ball off as the Bills ran down the clock, with his lone carry being a kneeldown in the final minute of the quarter. So long as Allen stays healthy throughout the season, Trubisky's playing time will remains limited to the tail end of non-competitive games.

Resumes practicing in full Trubisky (knee) practiced in full Thursday.

Impact Trubisky was limited due to a knee issue Wednesday, but he's upgraded to full participation in time to play without restrictions Week 1. Barring any setbacks, Trubisky now looks fully on track to operate as the No. 2 quarterback behind Josh Allen during Buffalo's regular-season opener against the Cardinals on Sunday.

Remains uncertain for season opener Trubisky (knee) will be limited during practice Wednesday, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports.

Impact Trubisky is still nursing a knee injury suffered in a mid-August preseason tilt with the Steelers. His ability to participate at some level today should be a step in the right direction; however, head coach Sean McDermott is "not sure" if the North Carolina product will be available Week 1, Maddy Glab of the Bills' official site reports. If Trubisky can't suit up Sunday against the Cardinals, Buffalo will likely be promoting Mike White to the active roster from the practice squad.

Uncertain for Week 1 Bills general manager Brandon Beane said Wednesday that the status of Trubisky (knee) is uncertain for Week 1, Chris Brown of the Bills Radio Network reports.

Impact Trubisky is working his way back from a knee injury sustained mid-August in a preseason game against the Steelers, and while he doesn't seem like a candidate to begin the regular season on IR, he's not a lock to be ready for Buffalo's opener against the Cardinals on Sept. 8. As an insurance option behind Josh Allen, the Bills prioritized inking Mike White to the practice squad Tuesday after his release by the Dolphins.

Impact Trubisky injured his knee in Saturday's preseason game against the Steelers. Initial reports indicated that the injury would sideline the 2017 first-round quarterback for multiple weeks, but McDermott seemed to indicate Thursday that Trubisky could be ready for Week 1. If not, Ben DiNucci -- who Buffalo signed on Aug. 12 after Shane Beuchele landed on IR with a neck injury -- would serve as the backup quarterback behind Josh Allen to start the season, while Anthony Brown would fill in as the emergency QB.

Impact Trubisky left Saturday's preseason contest in Pittsburgh due to a knee injury, and based on Monday's report, the QB's Week 1 status is unclear. When healthy, Trubisky is slated to be Josh Allen's top backup, but for now Ben DiNucci profles as the Bills' No. 2 signal caller.
