Upgraded to questionable Evans (hamstring) has been upgraded from doubtful to questionable for Sunday's game against the Saints, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.

Impact It's hard to view this as anything but a step in the right direction, but the plan has always been for Evans to essentially be a game-time call Sunday. Evans managed to practice Friday in a limited capacity so Saturday's upgrade certainly seems like a positive indication of the star wideout's status. Fantasy managers should still keep tabs on Evans' status leading up to the 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff.

Impact The Buccaneers seem to be waiting until Sunday to make a final call on Evans' availability for Week 1, but the fact he was tagged with a "doubtful" designation is not a great sign that he'll be active. He did get back on the practice field Friday in a limited capacity, but if Evans is unable to suit up this weekend, Chris Godwin will be the unquestioned No. 1 wide receiver, while Scotty Miller, Justin Watson and rookie Tyler Johnson will be candidates for additional snaps.

Impact It appears Evans was only able to practice on a limited basis Friday, but it's a good sign that he was on the field after sitting out the previous two days. While Evans' participation provides reason for optimism, his status for Week 1 has not yet been determined and may not be until game day.

Not partaking in practice Evans (hamstring) wasn't spotted on the field during the portion of Thursday's practice that was open to the media, Eduardo A. Encina of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Impact Instead, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times notes that Evans worked outside on the field with team trainer Bobby Slater, while the Bucs' healthy players practiced indoors. With that in mind, Evans is poised to go down as a non-participant in practice for the second day in a row, leaving his availability for Sunday's season opener at New Orleans uncertain. Head coach Bruce Arians suggested that Evans could end up being a game-time call for the Week 1 matchup, but the wideout's activity (or lack thereof) in Friday's session should provide more insight into whether he's trending toward active or inactive status.

Impact Arians relayed Evans doesn't have to practice this week in order to play, but the decision will "go all the way to the wire." It should be noted Evans missed the final three games of last season due to a strained right hamstring, so his status will be watched closely as Sunday's 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff draws closer. If he's unable to suit up, his absence would free up reps for Justin Watson, and perhaps rookie Tyler Johnson, who sit directly behind Evans on the depth chart.

Misses practice with injury Evans was held out of practice Wednesday, with coach Bruce Arians saying the wide receiver is day-to-day due to a soft tissue injury, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.

Impact This is the first report of any issue for Evans this summer, and the timing is cause for concern even if the Buccaneers don't think it's a serious injury. The wideout has some history of hamstring and groin injuries, including a three-game absence to close out last season. Another update should be available Wednesday afternoon when the Bucs release their initial injury report for Sunday's game in New Orleans.
