Impact Gallup had been trending toward a deal to remain with the Cowboys since early March, and he'll avoid free agency with a deal that will keep him in Dallas through the 2026 season. The 26-year-old sustained a clean ACL tear in early January, but there's hope that he'll be cleared for game action in time for the start of the regular season. Gallup appeared in nine games during the 2021 campaign and secured 35 of 62 targets for 445 yards and two touchdowns. Once he's fully healthy, he's in line to serve as the Cowboys' clear No. 2 receiver behind CeeDee Lamb after the team traded Amari Cooper to the Browns on Saturday.

Impact Gallup is exactly one month removed from suffering the injury, and the aforementioned procedure will be overseen by team physician Dan Cooper. The Cowboys are optimistic that the fourth-year wide receiver will be healthy by Week 1 of the 2022 season, but for whom the upcoming unrestricted free agent will be playing remains far from certain. The team can work out a long-term deal with Gallup before he hits the open market March 16, at which point the entire league can negotiate with him.

Still, the timing of his ACL tear puts Gallup in serious danger of missing the start of the 2022 campaign, a major complication as he's scheduled for unrestricted free agency this spring.
