Fantasy football draft prep: Insight on Michael Carter, Gus Edwards, Amon-Ra St. Brown and more from our NFL writers We asked our NFL writers one pressing fantasy question each about their respective teams. Here are their answers.

Injury deemed minor Carter's unspecified injury isn't viewed as a serious issue, Connor Hughes of The Athletic reports.
Impact With that, we'll consider the rookie back day-to-day. When healthy, the 2021 fourth-rounder will look will look to carve out a role in a Jets backfield that also includes Tevin Coleman, Ty Johnson and La'Mical Perine. Heading into the regular season, it appears as though the Jets will employ a committee approach, per ESPN's Rich Cimini. For now, look for Coleman and Johnson to lead the way, at least out of the gate, but Cimini notes that Carter "has the most upside, but the rookie might need a little time before he finds a niche."

May be banged up Carter may be dealing with an injury, as he was in the rehab area at Monday's practice, Connor Hughes of The Athletic reports.
Impact It's been an interesting summer for the fourth-round pick, starting with the first week of training camp when he reportedly got regular work with the first-team offense. Fantasy attention followed, but recent indicators point more toward a Gang Green backfield committee with three or even four players involved. Given his age, draft position and receiving ability, Carter remains the upside play among the bunch, though it isn't clear who out of him, Tevin Coleman, Ty Johnson or even La'Mical Perine (foot) will get the most work. The rookie finished his first NFL preseason with a respectable stat line -- 24 carries for 86 yards and three catches for 15 yards on three targets -- but it seems he may have gotten banged up in Friday's exhibition with the Eagles. Carter has two weeks to get ready for the season opener at Carolina on Sept. 12.

Unimpressive in preseason finale Carter carried the ball seven times for 12 yards and caught his only target for seven yards in Friday's preseason tie against the Eagles.
Impact With Tevin Coleman held out of the preseason finale and La'Mical Perine (foot) banged up, Carter and Ty Johnson split snaps in the backfield with the first-team offense. Johnson overshadowed the rookie however, as did Josh Adams, who didn't see the field until later in the first half. Carter had some buzz going earlier in training camp, but it looks like he'll open the regular season either third or fourth on the depth chart depending on Perine's health, and he will need to force his way into a more prominent role in what looks like a true backfield committee for the Jets.

Fourth back in game Saturday Carter gained 52 rushing yards on 10 carries while losing one yard while catching his only target in Saturday's preseason win over the Packers.
Impact While his numbers were good, the context was not -- Carter didn't see action until the third quarter and was the fourth Jets' back in the game, entering after Tevin Coleman, Ty Johnson and La'Mical Perine had already gotten snaps. The team's initial depth chart had listed him fourth as well, and while Carter is seen to have more upside than the RBs he's competing with, the 2021 fourth-round pick may have to earn his touches as the regular season progresses rather than seeing big volume right out of the gate.
AUGUST 22, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Looks to carve out role in offense Rich Cimini of ESPN.com suggests that while Carter "might not be the (Jets') starting running back, per se," the fourth-rounder's "early work with the first team suggests he will b...
Impact Based on Carter's ADP this summer, it's clear that the North Carolina product is viewed as the upside play in the Jets backfield, which could well emerge as a committee situation early on this season. Even if the rookie isn't officially acknowledged as the team's top back once Week 1 rolls around, we expect him to make a mark out of the gate, nonetheless, with the 5-foot-8, 201-pounder's pass-catching ability providing utility to the team's offense. In the Jets' initial unofficial depth chart, posted by the team's PR staff, Carter is listed behind Tevin Coleman, La'Mical Perine and Ty Johnson, but that's a listing that probably should be taken with a grain of salt, given that it's not uncommon for teams to place rookies on their preseason depth charts lower than what their practice reps/potential workload might otherwise suggest.

Gang Green's top RB in camp Carter was described as "a step above" the Jets' other running backs in camp by Connor Hughes of The Athletic.
Impact Carter has worked with the first-team offense, though Tevin Coleman, Ty Johnson and La'Mical Perine remain on hand to jostle for playing time. The rookie fourth-round pick split time with Broncos second-rounder Javonte Williams at UNC, and there are concerns about whether Carter's 5-foot-8, 201-pound frame can hold up through the rigors of a starter's workload in the NFL, but Carter looks like the leading candidate to top the Jets' backfield in touches this season if he can stay healthy.
AUGUST 5, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Opens camp with starters Carter lined up with the starting offense Wednesday at the first practice of training camp, Connor Hughes of The Athletic reports.
Impact With fellow rookie Zach Wilson still unsigned, Carter was joined on the first unit by quarterback Mike White, receivers Corey Davis, Jamison Crowder and Keelan Cole and tight end Tyler Kroft. The rookie running back out of North Carolina may still end up in a committee, but it's increasingly clear he's expected to fill a big role, perhaps even as the starter or lead back. Carter is competing with Tevin Coleman, Ty Johnson, La'Mical Perine, Josh Adams and Austin Walter in the New York backfield.

Earns coach's praise Carter has impressed head coach Robert Saleh so far, Ethan Greenberg of the Jets' official site reports. "Michael's got tremendous vision," Saleh said. "He's got tremendous speed,...
Impact Saleh's praise of Carter's ability in pass protection is especially notable, as a lack of that skill often limits young running backs' playing time. The rookie fourth-round pick may not have the size to take on a workhorse role at 5-foot-8 and 201 pounds, but Carter could work as the Jets' third-down back from from the get-go, playing a similar role to Nyheim Hines in Indianapolis. Having averaged 8.0 yards per carry at UNC last season, Carter has the highest ceiling in the crowded Jets backfield, and Greenberg points out Carter has played in an outside-zone rushing scheme since high school, making him an excellent fit for offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur's scheme.
