Raheem Mostert - Not at practice Mostert (thumb) isn't practicing Wednesday, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Impact Mostert's absence to begin the week of practice was fully expected after head coach Mike McDaniel said the running back suffered a "significant break" to his thumb in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 11-6 win over the Jets. Backfield mate Jeff Wilson could see a larger share of the workload than usual even if Mostert ends up playing, as the thumb fracture will impact his ability to catch passes at the very least.

Salvon Ahmed - Quiet in regular-season finale Ahmed took his only carry for seven yards during Sunday's 11-6 win over the Jets.
Impact Ahmed handled his usual rotational role Week 18, but depending on the status of Raheem Mostert (finger) coming off a fractured thumb, he could be in for increased opportunities during the wild-card playoff matchup against the Bills. The Dolphins will be without Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) in Buffalo, so the team could lean more on the running game than usual.

Tua Tagovailoa ruled out of Dolphins' playoff game vs. Bills

Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel says quarterback Tua Tagovailoa remains in the NFL’s concussion protocol and has been ruled out for Sunday’s playoff game against the Buffalo Bil...

Teddy Bridgewater - Working to be available vs. Bills Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said Wednesday that Bridgewater (finger/knee) is uncertain to play in Sunday's wild-card game against the Bills, David Furones of the South Florid...
Impact Meanwhile, Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) has been ruled out for the postseason opener, leaving Bridgewater and Skylar Thompson (ankle) as the candidates to start versus Buffalo. Bridgewater was able to suit up for this past Sunday's 11-6 win over the Jets, but since he hadn't fully healed from a dislocated pinky finger, he was limited to a backup role behind Thompson. With Tagovailoa out and Thompson having struggled against the Jets, the Dolphins may view Bridgewater as their preferred quarterback for the wild-card round. Even if that's the case, Bridgewater's health may not permit him to start, as McDaniel said that as of Wednesday, the team is preparing as though Thompson will get the nod Sunday, adding that Bridgewater won't be "able to get many reps, if any" in practice this week, per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. Unless Bridgewater is able to quickly turn a corner in his recovery from the finger injury and start practicing in full, Thompson looks to be trending toward making a second straight start.

Tua Tagovailoa - Won't play Sunday Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said Wednesday that Tagovailoa (concussion) has yet to be cleared for football activities and won't play in Sunday's wild-card game against the Bi...
Impact According to Furones, the Dolphins are preparing as though Skylar Thompson will make another start at quarterback in the postseason opener, while Teddy Bridgewater (finger/knee) is still working toward being available for Sunday at this stage but apparently isn't progressing from his dislocated finger as quickly as hoped. As for Tagovailoa, McDaniel told Furones that the signal-caller hasn't had any setbacks, but added that there are "compounding variables" that are being considered in determining the 24-year-old's status moving forward, should Miami advance beyond the wild-card round.

Skylar Thompson - Could make playoff start Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said Wednesday that Thompson (undisclosed) is preparing to start Sunday's wild-card playoff matchup against the Bills, David Furones of the South...
Impact Thompson was nicked up with an undisclosed injury following this past Sunday's win over the Jets, but with Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) ruled out and Teddy Bridgewater (knee/finger) still not back to full health, Miami is currently preparing as if the third-string quarterback will start versus Buffalo. The rookie's only official start this season came versus New York, but he also played 98 percent of the offensive snaps Week 5. Across those two games, Thompson completed 39 of 64 attempts for 318 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions, numbers which aren't cause for inspiration. Bridgewater was active Week 18 as a backup, but the veteran doesn't look like he'll be able to take enough reps in practice this week to put himself in position to start against the Bills.
JANUARY 11 • ROTOWIRE
Durham Smythe - Season-high yards in finale Smythe secured three of five targets for 39 yards during Sunday's 11-6 win over the Jets.
Impact Smythe recorded his best receiving performance of the year in Miami's regular-season finale, a game which saw Skylar Thompson rely heavily on short-yardage completions to tight ends and running backs. If Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) or Teddy Bridgewater (finger) is healthy enough to suit up for Sunday's playoff matchup in Buffalo, it would stand to reason that Smythe will revert to his normal role, which involves more blocking than route running.

Teddy Bridgewater - Return to full practice TBD Coach Mike McDaniel noted Monday that he's not sure if Bridgewater (knee/finger) is ready to practice in full at this stage, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports...
Impact That said, per Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com, McDaniel did suggest Monday that he believes Bridgewater may have been in a position to have entered this past Sunday's game against the Jets if Week 18 starter Skylar Thompson had been forced to exit the contest. Considering that, Bridgewater appears to be trending in the right direction as this weekend's playoff opener against the Bills approaches, while that status of Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) -- who has not yet been cleared for football activity -- remains unclear, per Louis-Jacques.
JANUARY 9 • ROTOWIRE
Skylar Thompson - Nicked up following win Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said Monday that Thompson (undisclosed) picked up "some bumps and bruises" during Sunday's win over the Jets, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Thompson does not appear to be dealing with any definitive injuries, though it wouldn't be surprising if he was less than 100 percent healthy after absorbing nine quarterback hits from the Jets' defense. It will be worth monitoring the rookie's status on Wednesday's injury report, as starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) still has not been cleared for football activity as of Monday. McDaniel also added that veteran signal-caller Teddy Bridgewater could have stepped in under center if needed Week 18, as he was ruled active pregame after being deemed questionable with a dislocated right pinky finger and lingering knee injury Friday. Should Thompson's injury status worsen, then Bridgewater or practice-squad quarterback Mike Glennon could be in line for more prominent roles in Sunday's matchup against Buffalo during the wild-card round of the playoffs.
JANUARY 9 • ROTOWIRE
Raheem Mostert - Significant break in thumb Coach Mike McDaniel indicated that the thumb injury Mostert suffered Sunday against the Jets is "serious," David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Impact With the running back having sustained what McDaniel described as a "significant break" in his thumb, Mostert's status for this weekend's game against the Bills is iffy, at best. With that in mind, McDaniel noted "it's hard to know if he'll be able to play this week. I never put anything past Raheem Mostert." If, however, Mostert is unavailable against Buffalo, Jeff Wilson would be in line to see an expanded role in Miami's backfield, with Salvon Ahmed in reserve.
JANUARY 9 • ROTOWIRE
Tua Tagovailoa - Not yet cleared for football activity Coach Mike McDaniel noted Monday that Tagovailoa (concussion) has not yet been cleared for football activity, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Louis-Jacques notes that the Dolphins are hoping to have added clarity on the QB's status Wednesday, while adding that Tagovailoa hasn't experienced any setbacks. As the team's playoff opener this coming weekend against the Bills approaches, Tagovailoa's availability remains uncertain, but McDaniel did relay Monday that he believes Teddy Bridgewater, who has been dealing with a finger injury as well as a knee issue, may have been in a position to have entered Sunday's game against the Jets if Week 18 starter Skylar Thompson had been forced to exit the contest.
JANUARY 9 • ROTOWIRE
Jaylen Waddle - Dealing with minor ankle issue Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said Monday that he'd "be very surprised" if Waddle (ankle) is unable to play Sunday against the Bills, Adam H. Beasley of ProFootballNetwork.com...
Impact Waddle finished the regular-season finale with five receptions for 44 yards, but he appears to have picked up an ankle injury as well. He played 75 percent of Miami's offensive snaps during the win over the Jets, which is right around his season average, so it doesn't appear like the injury limited him in Week 18 or will impact his availability for the wild-card matchup against Buffalo. However, more clarity on Waddle's status will be available when the Dolphins release their next injury report, which won't come until Wednesday.
JANUARY 9 • ROTOWIRE
Trent Sherfield - Not targeted in win over Jets Sherfield was not targeted during Sunday's 11-6 win over the Jets.
Impact Sherfield didn't draw a target from Skylar Thompson despite having been involved enough Week 17 to draw six looks. As such, the regular-season finale counts as Sherfield's first game of the 2022 regular season without a target. He could be more involved in the wild-card matchup against Buffalo, especially if the Dolphins have Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) or Teddy Bridgewater back under center.
JANUARY 9 • ROTOWIRE
Jason Sanders - Clutch to end regular season Sanders converted all three of his field-goal attempts during Sunday's 11-6 win over the Jets.
Impact Sanders accounted for all of Miami's offensive points during the Week 18 divisional win, an victory that allowed the team to clinch a spot in the wild-card round versus the Bills. Across 17 appearances in the 2022 regular season, Sanders converted 26 of 32 field-goal tries and 41 of 44 extra-point attempts.
JANUARY 9 • ROTOWIRE
Mike Gesicki - Productive in Week 18 win Gesicki secured four of six targets for 46 yards during Sunday's 11-6 win over the Jets.
Impact Gesicki recorded more receiving yardage Week 18 than his last six games combined, showing some sparks with third-string quarterback Skylar Thompsonunder center. The Dolphins realistically could have either Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) or Teddy Bridgewater (finger) back under center for the upcoming wild-card matchup against the Bills, so it remains to be seen whether Gesicki's trend of more noticeable involvement will continue.
JANUARY 9 • ROTOWIRE
Raheem Mostert - Has broken thumb Mostert suffered a broken thumb in Sunday's 11-6 win over the Jets, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Impact Mostert suffered the injury in the fourth quarter of Miami's playoff berth-clinching win. It remains to be seen whether Mostert will be capable of playing through this injury in the wild-card round against the Bills. If Mostert's unable to suit up Sunday in Buffalo, Jeff Wilson would likely take on a workhorse role in Miami's backfield.
