Browns picking up wins, confidence as season rolls along
The Browns are in unfamiliar territory

Three catches in win
Hodge caught three of three targets for 31 yards in Sunday's 27-25 win over Jacksonville.
Impact
One week after he led Cleveland's wide receivers, Hodge took a more customary role as second fiddle to Jarvis Landry. Hodge has just nine catches for 155 yards and is a limited feature for an offense that's run the ball more than its passed in three straight games and six times out of 11 contests.

One target in win
Hodge was targeted once in Sunday's 10-7 win over the Texans.
Impact
Hodge was touted as a deep-threat replacement for the injured Odell Beckham (knee) over the Browns' bye week, but there was little downfield throwing during a game that featured gusting winds and rain. The target was just the seventh of the season for Hodge, who makes more impact as a blocker for Cleveland's two-headed backfield of Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt.

Role without OBJ
Hodge is expected to be the deep threat replacement for the injured Odell Beckham (knee), Ellis L. Williams of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Impact
Without Beckham, the Browns have Hodge and Rashard Higgins as the next men up. Both receivers had a similar snap count in Sunday's loss to the Raiders -- Higgins had 35 snaps while Hodge played 34. Hodge has greater speed than Higgins, making him the ideal replacement as a field stretcher. Defenses may not feel the need to immediately send a safety over the top to help on Hodge, as they do for Beckham, but the Browns may want to take some shots deep to see if he can become a credible threat. If Hodge develops as a legit outside-the-numbers option, that could take the pressure off Jarvis Landry, who should see multiple defenders on most routes without Beckham in the lineup.

Untargeted in return
Hodge was not targeted in Sunday's 16-6 loss to the Raiders.
Impact
Hodge, who returned from a three-week stay on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury, played 34 snaps, which is right around his season average. He and Rashard Higgins (35 snaps) are the primary fill-ins for Odell Beckham (knee, IR) and will continue to be unless Cleveland makes a deal before Tuesday's trade deadline. However, judging from the performance of the defense, which gave up 208 rushing yards and were on the field for nearly 38 minutes, the Browns need help in other areas.

Removed from IR
Hodge (hamstring) was activated off injured reserve Saturday, Jake Trotter of ESPN.com reports.
Impact
More importantly, Hodge is expected to play and step immediately into the No. 3 WR role after the injury to Odell Beckham (knee). Hodge only has three receptions on six targets this season, but he's played at least 50 percent of the offensive snaps in each of the three games he's been active and that should rise even further Sunday against the Raiders.

Practices Wednesday
Hodge (hamstring) practiced Wednesday and will be active Week 8 against the Raiders, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Impact
Hodge should step back into a familiar role as Cleveland's No. 3 wide receiver, after the Browns placed Odell Beckham (knee) on injured reserve this week. He missed the last three weeks and has been designated to return from injured reserve.

Cleared to practice
The Browns designated Hodge (hamstring) to return from injured reserve Wednesday.
Impact
The transaction will give the Browns up to 21 days to evaluate Hodge for a return to the 53-man roster, but the wideout isn't expected to need the full three weeks before being activated. According to Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal, head coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday that he expects Hodge to be available for the team's Week 8 game against the Raiders, so assuming the wideout incurs no setbacks with his hamstring in practices over the next three days, he should be cleared to suit up Sunday. With Odell Beckham (knee) suffering a season-ending ACL tear Week 7, Hodge should get the chance to compete with rookie Donovan Peoples-Jones for a regular spot in three-receiver sets alongside starters Jarvis Landry and Rashard Higgins.

Slated to return Week 8
Coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday that he expects Hodge (hamstring) to return this Sunday against the Raiders, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
Impact
Hodge has missed the past four games due to a hamstring injury, but he's in line to start practicing this week, which would open a 21-day window for him to return from IR. This would be a timely return for the Browns, as they lost star receiver Odell Beckham (torn ACL) for the season during this past Sunday's win over the Bengals. Upon his return to action, Hodge could handle a decent workload immediately, although rookie Donovan Peoples-Jones looks like the favorite to snag the No. 3 role moving forward. Hodge produced three receptions for 51 yards over the first three games this year.

Heads to IR
The Browns placed Hodge (hamstring) on injured reserve Tuesday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Impact
Hodge suffered a hamstring injury during pregame warmups prior to Sunday's 49-38 win over the Cowboys, and coach Kevin Stefanski declared Monday that the wideout was week-to-week. With his IR placement, he'll officially miss at least the next three games and will be eligible to return Week 7 against the Raiders. Donovan Peoples-Jones appears to be the next man up in three-wide sets, as he played 44 percent of offensive snaps in Week 4 while Rashard Higgins was a healthy scratch.

Deemed week-to-week
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski labeled Hodge (hamstring) as week-to-week Monday, Tom Withers of the Associated Press reports.
Impact
Hodge was active Sunday, but he didn't see any action in the Browns' 49-38 win over the Cowboys after injuring his hamstring in pregame warmups. As a result of Hodge's absence, rookie Donovan Peoples-Jones served as Cleveland's No. 3 wideout, but he played only 44 percent of the offensive snaps and didn't draw any targets with the Browns racing out to an early lead and finishing with a 40:33 run-to-pass ratio on the day. With Hodge now looking doubtful for at least the Browns' Week 5 game versus the Colts, Peoples-Jones or Rashard Higgins could be featured more in three-receiver sets, but neither would represent a high-priority option in the passing game.

DNP after pre-game injury
Hodge did not play in Sunday's win over Dallas after suffering a hamstring injury during pre-game warmups.
Impact
The Browns went to the next man up as the No. 3 wideout, using rookie Donovan Peoples-Jones as a fill-in. Hodge had cemented the job as the third wideout, so if healthy, he will resume the role Week 5 against the Colts.

Suffers hamstring injury
Hodge suffered a hamstring injury during pregame warmups and is questionable to play in Sunday's game versus the Cowboys, Jake Trotter of ESPN.com reports.
Impact
Hodge was slated to be the No. 3 wideout in Sunday's game, but if he sits out, Donovan Peoples-Jones will enjoy an uptick in snaps behind Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry.

ROTOWIRE
Entrenched as third wideout
Hodge appears to have a firm grasp of the third receiver spot, Marla Ridenour of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
Impact
Hodge worked as third receiver for the first three games and supplanted Rashard Higgins, who was inactive in last week's win over Washington. Coaches insist Higgins is not in the doghouse, but Hodge's work on special teams gives him an edge. With Kareem Hunt (groin, questionable) and JoJo Natson (knee, IR) dealing with injuries heading into Week 4 against Dallas, there could be room for both Higgins and rookie Donovan Peoples-Jones behind Hodge on the active roster.

ROTOWIRE
No catches in win
Hodge was targeted once in Sunday's 34-20 win over Washington in Week 3.
Impact
Hodge once again served as Cleveland's third wideout and played more than 50 percent of the snaps for the third straight week, but the playing time hasn't translated to fantasy worth. He has just three catches for 51 yards. Hodge had little competition for playing time Sunday as the Browns made Rashard Higgins inactive and JoJo Natson (knee) left the game in the second quarter.

ROTOWIRE
Another healthy dose of snaps
Hodge caught both targets for 39 yards and played 33 offensive snaps (57 percent) in Thursday's 35-30 win over the Bengals in Week 2.
Impact
Hodge is locked in as the No. 3 wideout, having played 56 percent of the offensive snaps through two weeks. His two targets were down from the three he had last week, but the Browns were able to play their designed offense, unlike in last week's blowout loss to the Ravens. If the Browns continue to run 60 percent of time as they did Thursday, there will be little chance of Hodge breaking out of the 2-to-3 target range.

•
ROTOWIRE
Third among wideouts
Hodge caught one of three targets and played 40 snaps (55 percent) in Sunday's 38-6 loss to the Ravens.
Impact
Hodge had the third-most targets and snaps among the wide receiver group, finishing ahead of Rashard Higgins, who had an edge entering training camp. As close observers of the Browns suspected, the team's third wideout was less involved as a target than running back Kareem Hunt, whose six targets were more than Hodge and Higgins combined.

ROTOWIRE
Lands roster spot
Hodge made the Browns' 53-man roster, Andrew Gribble of the Browns' official site reports.
Impact
Hodge is one of six wide receivers kept by the Browns, who also retained Rashard Higgins, Donovan Peoples-Jones and JoJo Natson behind starters Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham. Higgins is considered the third wideout while Natson and Peoples-Jones could factor as returners. That leaves Hodge, who is regarded as one of best gunners in the league.

Competing for No. 3 job?
Hodge is working as the No. 3 receiver at Sunday's practice, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Impact
Hodge missed some practice time this past week for personal reasons, but he's solidly in the mix for a depth role in the Cleveland offense. He logged 260 snaps on special teams and only 129 on offense last season, but he perhaps has a real shot at the No. 3 spot given that the competition consists of Rashard Higgins, Damion Ratley, Taywan Taylor and Donovan Peoples-Jones. Of course, the Browns figure to make frequent use of formations that utilize a second tight end (David Njoku) or a fullback (Andy Janovich) instead of a third wide receiver.
