INJURIES

Full practice participant Wednesday Mitchell (knee) was listed as a full practice participant on Wednesday's injury report.
Impact Keaton began the regular season on the reserve/PUP list while in the final stages of his recovery from a torn ACL in his left knee that he sustained in Week 15 of the 2023 campaign. His 21-day practice window opened Oct. 23, and while he was a limited participant all of last week, he was able to practice without restrictions Wednesday. If he's able to log full practices over the next two days, there's a chance he could be activated off IR and make his 2024 regular-season debut against the Broncos on Sunday. If he does return, Mitchell would serve as the Ravens' No. 3 running back behind Derrick Henry and Justice Hill.

Practice window opened Wednesday The Ravens designated Mitchell (knee) to return from injured reserve Wednesday.
Impact Mitchell was officially limited in Wednesday's practice. Coach John Harbaugh has already ruled out Mitchell for the Ravens' Week 8 date with the Browns, but this transaction officially opens the running back's 21-day practice window. Once Mitchell does return to game action, it's unclear what his role will be with Derrick Henry and Justice Hill both performing exceptionally as the one-two punch out of Baltimore's backfield. There likely won't be much meat on the bone for Mitchell to make him fantasy relevant in 2024 unless there's an injury to Henry or Hill.

Won't play Week 8 Coach John Harbaugh said Wednesday that Mitchell (knee) won't play Sunday against the Browns, Jonas Shaffer of the Baltimore Banner reports.
Impact Harbaugh added that Mitchell is set to go full-speed in practice Thursday, after which point the team will have a better indication of a potential timetable for the second-year running back's return from a torn ACL suffered last December. The Ravens are hoping Mitchell will come back prior to the expiration of his 21-day window to return from the PUP list, which opens when he starts practicing.

Set to resume practicing Mitchell (knee) is in line to return to practice this week, Ryan Mink of the Ravens' official site reports.
Impact Mitchell, who suffered an ACL tear on Dec. 17 last year, is on the PUP list, but once he's back at practice, the running back's 21-day window for activation will open. Per Mink, Mitchell figures to need a multi-week ramp up period before returning to game action, but once the 22-year-old is deemed ready, he'll provide the Ravens with backfield depth behind Derrick Henry and Justice Hill.

Not close to returning Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Wednesday that Mitchell (knee) is "right on schedule" but "isn't close enough yet to talk about," Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports.
Impact In other words, the Ravens never expected Mitchell to contribute in the first half of the season, hoping instead to get him back later in the year. He suffered an ACL tear Week 15 last season and apparently will remain on the PUP list for at least a few more weeks. Harbaugh did say that the team expects Mitchell to play at some point this year.

Our first four games, at least The Ravens placed Mitchell (knee) on the reserve/PUP list Tuesday, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Mitchell is working his way back from a torn left ACL, and while his placement on the reserve/PUP list only officially rules him out for the first four games of the season, Hensley reports that it could be until November that the second-year pro is ready to retake the field. In any case, Derrick Henry is positioned to work as the clear No. 1 backfield option for Baltimore, while Justice Hill remains in town to handle pass-catching work. Rookie fifth-round pick Rasheen Ali (concussion) could work as the No. 3 man as long as Mitchell remains sidelined.

Staying on PUP list Mitchell (knee) will remain on the PUP list to start the regular season, ruling him out for at least four games, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Impact It's not surprising given the lack of updates on Mitchell's progress since he was placed on the PUP list at the start of training camp. He suffered an ACL tear Week 15 last season, ending an impressive run of performances in which he'd emerged as Baltimore's best backfield threat despite being an undrafted rookie. The team has since signed Derrick Henry and still has Justice Hill for passing downs, but Mitchell's speed could make him useful in a change-of-pace role at some point Week 5 or later this year.

Ravens put running back Keaton Mitchell on physically unable to perform list because of knee injury

The Baltimore Ravens have put running back Keaton Mitchell on the physically unable to perform list

Keaton Mitchell Placed on Physically Unable to Perform List Ravens RB Keaton Mitchell has been placed on the PUP list, and two rookies have also been placed on lists.

Starting camp on PUP list The Ravens placed Mitchell (knee) on the physically unable to perform list Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Impact Mitchell, who is working his way back from a left ACL tear suffered last December, will unsurprisingly have to begin training camp on the PUP list. He can be moved to the active roster at any time during training camp and the preseason, once ready to practice, but if he remains sidelined by the time Week 1 rolls around, Mitchell will need to be moved to the reserve/PUP list and thus miss a minimum of four games to start the year. The undersized speedster is competing for a role behind Derrick Henry out of the backfield.

Won't be ready for training camp Coach John Harbaugh said Wednesday that Mitchell (knee) won't be ready for the start of training camp but is "on schedule" in his recovery from an ACL tear sustained Week 15 last s...
Impact Harbaugh said Mitchell isn't expected to be ready until "sometime during the season." That's unsurprising, given the timing of Mitchell's injury, but fantasy managers should brace for the likely eventuality that the second-year pro isn't available Week 1, or at least not at full strength. Derrick Henry will work as Baltimore's clear No. 1 backfield option, but given that he's now reached the age-30 mark, the team could want to keep him from a league-leading workload, such as he's carried in the past. That could open up opportunities for Mitchell, once healthy, but to begin the regular season it will likely be Justice Hill and rookie fifth-rounder Rasheen Ali (biceps) complementing Henry.

Moves to injured reserve The Ravens placed Mitchell (knee) on injured reserve Tuesday, Clifton Brown of the team's official site reports.
Impact This move is merely procedural after it was confirmed Monday that Mitchell sustained a torn ACL in his left knee this past Sunday at Jacksonville. With Mitchell's season over and J.K. Dobbins (Achilles) also on IR, Gus Edwards and Justice Hill will handle most of the backfield reps moving forward, though Melvin Gordon was signed off the practice squad to the active roster in a corresponding move.

Impact Mitchell went down in the fourth quarter and was carted to the locker room. The elusive runner had 73 rushing yards on just nine carries prior to getting hurt Sunday, and Mitchell will likely finish his rookie season with an average of 8.4 yards per carry (396 yards on 47 attempts). An official move placing Mitchell on injured reserve could be coming shortly if Harbaugh's pessimistic prognostication is confirmed.

Impact Mitchell went down grabbing his leg near the knee at the conclusion of a 13-yard run in the fourth quarter. He had nine carries for 73 yards and caught both of his targets for 15 yards prior to the injury. Gus Edwards and Justice Hill are the top remaining options in Baltimore's backfield with Mitchell hurt.
