No injury designation Blackmon was clear of injury designations when the Colts announced transactions ahead of training camp Sunday, Andrew Moore of FanNation reports.

Impact It was expected that Blackmon would be able to participate in training camp at some point after he suffered a torn Achilles back in October 2021, so the news comes as no big surprise. He figures for a rotational role in Indianapolis' defensive backfield this season, but he could enjoy a more extensive opportunity depending on recent acquisition Rodney McLeod's (undisclosed) health and how quickly 2022 third-rounder Nick Cross acclimates to the NFL.

Tears Achilles, done for season Blackmon sustained a torn Achilles' tendon in Wednesday's practice and is set to miss the rest of the season, Stephen Holder of The Athletic reports.

Impact When Blackmon appeared on the Colts' first Week 7 injury report Wednesday as a limited participant, the prevailing belief was that his reps were capped for maintenance purposes. However, he apparently picked up the injury during practice, with follow-up tests later revealing that the second-year player suffered a tendon tear that will require season-ending surgery. The loss of Blackmon is a major blow to the Indianapolis defense, as the safety had emerged as a key piece in the secondary with 34 tackles (27 solo), a pass breakup and a forced fumble through the team's first six contests. He'll now turn his focus to getting healthy in advance of the 2022 campaign.
