Packers trust Josiah Deguara to know it all at tight end Fourth-year pro back in multi-pronged role after missing time in training camp
AUGUST 15, 2023 • PACKERS.COM
Josiah Deguara, Green Bay Packers, Tight End Josiah Deguara is a 6-2, 190-pound Athlete from Folsom, CA. He has committed to Cincinnati Bearcats.
JULY 24, 2023 • 247SPORTS.COM
Steps back in third season Deguara was targeted 15 times and caught 13 passes for 114 yards over 17 games in the 2022 campaign.
Impact Deguara appeared in every game for the first time in his three-year career, but he finished with roughly half the number of receptions and yards as he did in 2021, and he also failed to find the end zone after doing so twice in the previous season. He will almost certainly be back with Green Bay for a fourth go-around, but chances are he will remain in a complementary role.

Active in Week 18 Deguara (calf) is listed as active Sunday against the Lions, Mike Spofford of the Packers' official site reports.
Impact After sitting out Thursday's practice due to a calf injury, Deguara returned to a limited session Friday and entered the weekend listed as questionable for Week 18 action. Now that his status is confirmed, he'll continue to play a key role as a blocking tight end for the Packers offense, which doesn't hold much sway in fantasy considering he has a 13-114-0 line on 15 targets in 16 games this season.

Tabbed as questionable for Sunday The Packers list Deguara (calf) as questionable for Sunday's game against the Lions.
Impact Heading into a win-or-go-home matchup with the Lions in the regular-season finale, the Packers will have all members of the 53-man roster available aside from potentially Deguara, who is tending to the calf injury. After failing to practice Thursday on account of the injury, Deguara at least managed to take a step forward Friday by practicing on a limited basis. When available, Deguara has handled a small role as a depth tight end, never playing more than 50 percent of the offensive snaps in a given week while drawing two or fewer targets in 15 of his 16 appearances on the season.
JANUARY 6, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Dealing with injury Deguara did not participate during the Packers' practice Thursday due to a calf injury.
Impact Deguara popped up on Green Bay's injury report with this issue for the first time Thursday. The 25-year-old was seen working on a stationary bike and stretching during Thursday's session, according to Wes Hodkiewicz of the Packers' official site, so it appears he may have picked up the injury at some point during practice Wednesday. Deguara has recorded 13 catches on 15 targets for 114 yards, and his biggest contributions have come as a blocker and core special-teamer. He'll have one opportunity to increase his practice activity Friday, or else he could be in jeopardy of missing his first game of the season during Sunday's crucial regular-season finale.

Draws five targets in defeat Deguara caught all five of his targets for 41 yards in Sunday's 15-9 loss to the Lions.
Impact The tight end entered Sunday's contest with just six receptions for 65 yards over eight games, but the Packers needed more from him Sunday after rookie wideouts Romeo Doubs (ankle) and Christian Watson (head) exited early, and Deguara nearly doubled his production on the season. The Packers may continue looking for ways to get him more involved due to the attrition at wide receiver, but he is sharing snaps at tight end with Robert Tonyan and Marcedes Lewis and thus remains on the fringes of fantasy utility.

NOVEMBER 6, 2022 • PACKERS.COM
Notches reception in Week 8 Deguara recorded a nine-yard reception in Sunday's 27-17 loss to the Bills.
Impact Deguara played a season-high 28 snaps (44 percent share) in the Week 8 loss, surpassing Marcedes Lewis as the Packers' No. 2 tight end for the first time all season. It's unclear if that trend will continue moving forward or if it was more of a result of the Bills having the game in hand by the fourth quarter, but either way, Deguara and Lewis will both be firmly behind starter Robert Tonyan in the pecking order for snaps at tight end.
NOVEMBER 2, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Fills several roles in scrimmage Deguara led Packers tight ends in first-team reps during Green Bay's Family Night event Friday, according to Justis Mosqueda of acmepackingcompany.com.
Impact Deguara lined up as a tight end on only five plays Friday night, but be it in the backfield or in the slot, he was on the field for 10 others. When it was all said and done, only two Packers skill players -- and no one listed as a tight end -- racked up more snaps. Deguara started getting more involved later in his second season, and unless fellow tight end Robert Tonyan (knee) makes rapid progress in the weeks ahead, Deguara seems poised to be the Packers' top option at his position Week 1.

Finishes season as starter Deguara was targeted 33 times and caught 25 passes for 245 yards and two touchdowns over 16 appearances in the 2021 season.
Impact Deguara played a bit role early in the season, but he moved up the depth chart when fellow tight end Robert Tonyan suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 8 and finished the campaign as the Packers' top tight end. He did not do a whole lot outside of two long scores, but he was taken in the third round just two years ago, so he's going to get more opportunities in 2022. Just how many remains to be seen, as Tonyan will be a free agent this offseason.
FEBRUARY 3, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Gets loose late in loss Deguara was targeted four times and caught three passes for 66 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 37-30 loss to the Lions.
Impact Deguara did nearly all his damage on a 62-yard catch and run in the fourth quarter of Sunday's contest, but when it was all said and done he tied his career high for catches in a game and set a new career best in the receiving yards department. He led Packers tight ends in snaps six times over the team's last seven games and will head into the postseason as the team's top option at his position.

JANUARY 9, 2022 • NFL.COM
Does little in third straight Deguara was targeted three times and caught two passes for 11 yards in Sunday's 37-10 victory over the Vikings.
Impact Deguara would have had a much better night had he hauled in an Aaron Rodgers pass into the end zone on the Packers' first drive, but alas, he failed to hit even the 20-yard mark for the third straight game. Deguara remains the most-appealing fantasy option among Green Bay's tight ends, but with him producing minimally and the Packers having already sewn up the top seed in the NFC, there are likely better options to go with in Week 18.

Outten says Deguara has gotten progressively better Packers TE coach Justin Outten talks about the consistent progression that TE Josiah Deguara has made this year.
DECEMBER 29, 2021 • PACKERS.COM
Operating as top tight end Deguara was targeted three times and caught two passes for five yards in the Packers' 24-22 victory over the Browns in Week 16.
Impact Deguara played at least 55 percent of the snaps for a third week in a row, and for the first time in his career was the only Packers tight end to spend more than half the offensive plays on the field. While those numbers seemingly point to him being the Packers' top tight end, they have not translated into any meaningful production, as he has recorded just eight receptions for 65 yards in the three games the Packers have played since their Week 13 bye. Deguara should again spend ample time on the field in the Packers' Week 17 matchup with the Vikings, and although his recent numbers don't inspire much confidence, he should have a chance to find paydirt against an opponent that allowed tight ends to rack up five scores over its last six games.
DECEMBER 27, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Little impact in win Deguara was targeted five times and caught three passes for 16 yards in Sunday's 31-30 victory over the Ravens.
Impact While the five targets were a career high for Deguara, he was unable to do much with them, and he finished with no more than 16 yards for the fourth time in the six games the Packers have played since losing starting tight end Robert Tonyan (knee). Deguara did play more than 50 percent of the snaps for the second week in a row, and he will have the matchup in his favor in Week 16 against the Browns. However, his game log suggests he will be tough to trust in that contest.
