INJURIES

Sent back to practice squad The Saints reverted Howard to their practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Impact Howard got his second straight elevation to the active roster Week 10, but he played just three snaps, logging one carry for one yard against Pittsburgh. New Orleans played Alvin Kamara on 37 of 47 offensive snaps while Dwayne Washington received four snaps, leaving Howard to fill a very minor role. Howard could see action again in Week 11 against the Rams if Mark Ingram (knee) remains out, but he is unlikely to be on the field enough to be viable in fantasy.

Elevated from practice squad New Orleans elevated Howard from its practice squad to the active roster Saturday ahead of Sunday's game at the Steelers, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports.
Impact With Mark Ingram (knee) having been ruled out again for Week 10, Howard figures to be in uniform for the Saints for a second consecutive week. The 28-year-old tailback played just one offensive snap in Week 9.

Returns to Saints' practice squad Howard reverted to the Saints' practice squad Tuesday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Impact Howard signed to New Orleans' practice squad back on Oct. 12, and he finally received his first promotion to the team's active roster prior to Monday's loss to the Ravens. In the game, the 28-year-old logged just one offensive snap and failed to record a stat. Howard is now slated to return to the practice squad as an emergency depth option, but he could once again be elevated to the Saints' 53-man roster if Mark Ingram (knee) is unable to gain medical clearance before Sunday's contest in Pittsburgh.
NOVEMBER 9, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Elevated to active roster The Saints elevated Howard to the active roster Monday, Luke Johnson of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
Impact The veteran running back joined the Saints' practice squad Oct. 12 after New Orleans lost Latavius Murray to the Broncos and Tony Jones to the Seahawks. With Mark Ingram (knee) sidelined, Howard will have a chance to make his 2022 debut Monday against the Ravens after being elevated to the Saints' active roster, though Alvin Kamara will likely dominate the snaps at running back.
NOVEMBER 7, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Joins Saints' practice squad The Saints signed Howard to their practice squad Wednesday, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports.
Impact Howard appeared in seven games for the Eagles last year, totaling 88 touches for 425 yards and three scores, but he wasn't signed this offseason and remained a free agent heading into the 2022 campaign. However, he's landed a practice-squad job with the Saints, who recently lost Latavius Murray to the Broncos and Tony Jones to the Seahawks. Howard likely won't be elevated to the active roster as long as Alvin Kamara, Mark Ingram and Dwayne Washington are healthy.
OCTOBER 12, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
One touch against Buccaneers Howard hauled in his lone target for seven yards in Sunday's 31-15 loss to Tampa Bay.
Impact Howard began the 2021 campaign on the Eagles' practice squad but joined the active roster for the first time at the end of October. He landed a contract in November and appeared in seven total regular-season games. He recorded double-digit touches in each of those appearances but was limited in the wild-card round because Miles Sanders and Boston Scott were available. Across his seven regular-season appearances, Howard tallied 86 carries for 406 yards and three touchdowns while catching two of five targets for 19 yards. The 27-year-old is slated to become an unrestricted free agent during the offseason.

Bound for smaller rotation role Howard and Boston Scott are expected to rotate in behind lead option Miles Sanders (hand) for reps out of the backfield in Sunday's wild-card game against the Buccaneers, Mike Kaye...
Impact Howard and Scott were sidelined for the regular-season finale against Dallas due to stints on the reserve/COVID-19 list, while Sanders was out for the second game in a row as he continued to recover from hand surgery. When Sanders was idle for the Week 17 win in Washington, Scott played a position-leading 52 percent of the offensive snaps and took 14 carries for 47 yards and two scores to go with four receptions for 39 yards, while Howard played 34 percent of snaps and finished with 11 carries for 26 yards. Both Howard and Scott will be hard pressed to see double-digit touches in the postseason opener, as head coach Nick Sirianni said that Sanders will face "no limitations" this Sunday after practicing fully Friday, according to Geoff Mosher of InsideTheBirds.com. That said, Sanders hasn't topped 60 percent of snaps since Week 6, so the Eagles should have small roles in the game plan available for both Howard and Scott. Scott is a decent bet to serve as a change-of-pace option who can relieve Sanders if there's any question about his ability to catch the ball securely in his return from the hand injury, while Howard's sturdy six-foot, 222-pound frame makes him well suited for short-yardage and goal-line work.

Returns from COVID list The Eagles reinstated Howard (illness) from the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday.
Impact Philadelphia restored all of its players on the virus list to the active roster ahead of Sunday's wild-card game in Tampa Bay, including three key skill-position players in Howard and Boston Scott along with tight end Dallas Goedert. Meanwhile, No. 1 back Miles Sanders (hand) was sidelined along with Howard and Scott in the Eagles' Week 18 loss to the Cowboys, which allowed Kenneth Gainwell (12 carries for 78 yards and a touchdown, four catches for nine yards) to fill a three-down role. Sanders' status heading into the Eagles' wild-card round game in Tampa Bay this weekend isn't yet clear, but if he's not ready to go, Howard and Scott would likely share most of the carries, while Gainwell would serve as more of a change-of-pace option.

Stays on COVID-19 list Howard (illness) remains on the reserve/COVID-19 list ahead of Saturday's game against the Cowboys, Zach Berman of The Athletic reports.
Impact As does Boston Scott (illness), and with Miles Sanders out with a hand injury, look for Kenneth Gainwell to head the Eagles' Week 18 rushing attack, while Jason Huntley is available to mix in as well. Howard and Scott thus will need to clear the NFL's COVID-19 protocols in order to be available for the team's postseason opener next weekend.

Lands on COVID list The Eagles placed Howard on the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday.
Impact According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Howard was one of 12 Eagles placed on the list Monday after all tested positive. In addition to Howard, fellow running back Boston Scott (illness) landed on the list, leaving rookie Kenneth Gainwell as the only healthy backfield option on the active roster heading into Saturday's regular-season finale versus the Cowboys. Head coach Nick Sirianni already said earlier Monday that lead back Miles Sanders (hand) is expected to miss a second straight game this weekend.

Stuck in backup role Howard rushed the ball 11 times for 26 yards in Sunday's 20-16 win over Washington.
Impact Howard was limited in practice throughout the week due to a stinger, and that injury may have limited his volume and efficiency against Washington. He saw only three fewer carries than Boston Scott in the absence of Miles Sanders (hand), but he gave way in goal-line situations to Scott, who found the end zone twice. As usual, Howard was not involved in the passing attack, registering an abysmal stat line as the result. That could turn around in a Week 18 matchup against Dallas if Howard returns to health and Sanders remains sidelined.
JANUARY 3, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Suiting up in Week 17 Howard (stinger) is listed as active Sunday at Washington.
Impact Howard picked up a stinger last Sunday against the Giants and opened Week 17 prep with no activity at Wednesday's session. When he stepped on the practice field Thursday, he noticeably was sporting extra protection around his shoulder pads, according to Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer. Howard capped the week with back-to-back limited listings but still earned a questionable tag. All along, he seemed poised to be available to the Eagles offense, and indeed he'll be just that Sunday. With Miles Sanders (hand) out of commission, Howard will join forces with Boston Scott out of the backfield, while Kenneth Gainwell is on hand as a change-of-pace option. When Sanders previously sat out Weeks 8-10 this season, Philadelphia operated with a similar setup, which amounted to 41 carries for 211 yards and three touchdowns for Howard across those three contests. Meanwhile, Scott had 35 touches for 205 yards from scrimmage and two TDs, and Gainwell turned 18 touches into 44 total yards and one score.
JANUARY 2, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Expected to play Howard (stinger), who is listed as questionable for Sunday's game at Washington, is expected to play, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Impact Howard will be part of a backfield that includes Boston Scott and Kenneth Gainwell, with lead option Miles Sanders (hand) ruled out for Week 17. While Sanders was sidelined Weeks 8 through 10 with an ankle injury, Howard averaged 13.7 carries for 70.3 yards and 1.0 touchdowns. Scott was also reasonably productive with 11.0 carries for 60.3 yards and 0.67 touchdowns, while Gainwell averaged only six touches and 12.1 yards per game.

Questionable after practicing again Howard (stinger) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game at Washington, Mike Kaye of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Impact With Miles Sanders (hand) already ruled out, the Eagles hope Howard can join Boston Scott and Kenneth Gainwell in the backfield. That was the plan Weeks 8-10 when Sanders was sidelined by an ankle injury, with Howard averaging 13.7 carries for 70.3 yards and 1.0 TD in a three-game stretch. Scott was also reasonably productive with 11.0 carries for 60.3 yards and 0.67 TDs, while Gainwell averaged only six touches and 12.1 yards per game. In any case, Howard could be a game-time decision ahead of the 1:00 ET kickoff this Sunday, having finished the week with back-to-back limited practices after sitting out Wednesday's session.
DECEMBER 31, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Gets in limited practice Howard (stinger) practiced in a limited capacity Thursday.
Impact While Howard didn't practice Wednesday due to the stinger he picked up this past Sunday versus the Giants, coach Nick Sirianni told Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia that the running back was "working like crazy" to be available Week 17 at Washington. Indeed, Howard was spotted on the field Thursday working in individual drills with extra padding around his shoulders, per Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer. With Miles Sanders (hand) out for Sunday's game, Howard and Boston Scott would figure to man the backfield, assuming the former gains clearance to play through his injury.
