Rock: Giants WR Hyatt trying to adjust to waiting game
The young receiver's job right now is to be ready when called upon. "I'm a competitor," Hyatt said. "I want to be out there."

One target in Week 4
Hyatt failed to catch his only target in Thursday's 20-15 loss to the Cowboys.
Impact
Hyatt remained a non-factor for the Giants in Week 4, playing just 13 of the team's 69 offensive snaps. The wide receiver's lack of production against Dallas is rather disheartening knowing that Daniel Jones attempted 40 passes in the contest. Hyatt appears to be an afterthought in New York's offense early in 2024, buried beneath Malik Nabers (concussion), Wan'Dale Robinson and Darius Slayton at wide receiver.

Shut out in Week 3 win
Hyatt got just one target, which he didn't catch, in a 21-15 victory against the Browns on Sunday.
Impact
After Friday's practice, Hyatt refuted a recent report that he requested a trade late this summer, per Tom Canavan of the Associated Press. It's unclear if the rumblings had any impact on his playing time Sunday. Though he logged a season-low 10 offensive snaps, that number wasn't much different than the 15 and 11 he played in Weeks 1 and 2, respectively. Hyatt has drawn just two targets so far this season, neither of which has resulted in a catch. For the time being, he seems to be buried on the wideout depth chart behind Malik Nabers, Wan'Dale Robinson and Darius Slayton (thumb). However, if Slayton's injury causes him to miss any games, Hyatt could see an uptick in opportunity.

Requested trade during summer
Hyatt requested a trade from the Giants during the summer, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
Impact
As Raanan tells it, Hyatt was unhappy with his standing on the depth chart and said during a practice late in the summer that if the team wasn't going to use him, they should trade him. Through two games, Hyatt has ran just 14 pass routes -- seventh-most on the team -- and appears buried just one year after the team used the 73rd overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft on the wideout. Coach Brian Daboll has stressed to Hyatt that his time is coming, but he's running as the distant fourth receiver behind Malik Nabers, Darius Slayton and slot man Wan'Dale Robinson. It wouldn't be a shock to see Hyatt supplant Slayton in the near future, but it's clear Hyatt is frustrated at the moment.

Serving as No. 4 receiver
Hyatt failed to draw a target while playing 12 of the Giants' 56 snaps on offense in Sunday's 21-18 loss to the Commanders.
Impact
With Malik Nabers, Wan'Dale Robinson and Darius Slayton solidified as the Giants' starting wideout trio, Hyatt has been unable to make much of an impression in the box score through the first two weeks of the season. After failing to secure his lone target in the Giants' Week 1 loss to the Vikings, Hyatt didn't draw any looks from quarterback Daniel Jones in Week 2. Hyatt will likely need one of the aforementioned receivers to miss time before he handles a more meaningful snap count.

Rarely involved Week 1
Hyatt didn't catch his only target in a Week 1 loss to Minnesota on Sunday.
Impact
Hyatt logged only 16 offensive snaps in the defeat, which was well behind fellow wideouts Malik Nabers (71), Darius Slayton (51) and Wan'Dale Robinson (48). That provides pretty clear evidence of where Hyatt is on the depth chart right now, though he could see significantly more opportunity Week 2 versus Washington on Sunday if Slayton is unable to clear the NFL's concussion protocol in time for the contest.

Minimal action in preseason opener
Hyatt caught his only target for no gain in Thursday's 14-3 preseason win over the Lions.
Impact
Hyatt's lone target came from Drew Lock (hip) on the opening drive. Rookie sixth overall pick Malik Nabers wasn't targeted at all on his 12 snaps in the game, so neither of the young speedsters made much of an impact Thursday. Hyatt's coming off a 373-yard rookie season, and the 2023 third-round draft pick is trying to carve out a larger role in 2024. The Giants' second preseason game will be next Saturday in Houston.

Getting regular first-team work
Hyatt has been getting more first-team reps than Darius Slayton (undisclosed) during training camp, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.
Impact
This seems to at least partially be a product of Slayton managing a minor injury, but it's nonetheless a nice opportunity for Hyatt on the heels of a disappointing rookie season. The 2023 third-round pick caught 23 of 40 targets for 373 yards in 17 games last year, averaging 16.2 yards per catch while drawing a target on just 10.6 percent of routes. He'll need to draw targets at a much higher rate to achieve mainstream fantasy relevance, which could be a challenge if fellow WRs Malik Nabers and Wan'Dale Robinson develop as the Giants hope. On the other hand, a lack of established at TE and RB could push a huge portion of the team's targets toward the WRs.
