Traded to Philly Minshew was traded to the Eagles from the Jaguars for a conditional sixth-round pick Saturday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Impact It appears as if the quarterback competition orchestrated by coach Urban Meyer paid off as the Jaguars were able to land a sixth-round pick, which could turn into a fifth depending on how much Minshew plays on his new team. It's a curious move on the side of the Eagles considering Joe Flacco was supposedly locked in as the team's top backup, but the move to acquire Minshew might mean the veteran Super Bowl winner could slide down on the depth chart. It's hard to imagine the 2019 sixth-round pick will challenge Jalen Hurts for the starting spot, but Minshew is a cheap asset who has proved to be a relatively quality backup during his handful of starts thus far in his career.

Backup status official Head coach Urban Meyer announced Wednesday that Trevor Lawrence will start Week 1 in Houston, leaving Minshew to handle backup duties, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

Impact Meyer took his time in officially naming a starting quarterback, but it ultimately comes as no surprise to see the rookie No. 1 overall pick finishing ahead of Minshew on the depth chart. Minshew will be one of the more competent backups in the NFL, to his credit. Across 23 appearances in the first two seasons of his career, Minshew logged a more than respectable 37:11 TD:INT. The 25-year-old could even still garner interest around the league as a trade candidate, should the Jaguars opt to go that route.

Throws costly interception Minshew completed 13 of 21 passes for 149 yards and an interception in Monday night's 23-21 preseason loss to the Saints.

Impact Minshew entered after watching rookie top pick Trevor Lawrence complete 14 of 23 attempts for 113 yards in the first half, managing just three points on six drives. Although Minshew was more efficient and had the Jags on the doorstep of scoring, his interception from the opposing two-yard line put a big damper on his performance. The third-year pro already was facing an uphill battle to be named starter over Lawrence, and even though that determination is yet to be made, it wouldn't be surprising if Minshew learns his second-string fate sometime soon.
