INJURIES
Inactive, emergency QB in Week 4 Uiagalelei (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game versus Seattle, though he is listed as the team's emergency quarterback.
Impact Trey Lance (groin) is available to suit up in Week 4, meaning Uiagalelei will be a healthy scratch. However, if Lance and Justin Herbert exit the contest due to injury, illness or ejection, Uiagalelei will serve as the team's emergency signal-caller.
OCTOBER 4 • ROTOWIRE
Serving as emergency QB3 vs. Buffalo Uiagalelei (coach's decision) is inactive but will serve as the emergency third quarterback against the Bills on Sunday, Eric Smith of the Chargers' official site reports.
Impact The Chargers signed Uiagalelei to the active roster Saturday to provide depth at quarterback due to the uncertainty around the status of Trey Lance (groin). Lance has been cleared to play Week 3 and will be Justin Herbert's backup. As the emergency QB3, Uiagalelei is prohibited from playing Sunday unless both Herbert and Lance were to leave the game due to injury, illness or ejection.
SEPTEMBER 27 • ROTOWIRE
Signs with Bolts' active roster The Chargers signed Uiagalelei from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday.
Impact With backup quarterback Trey Lance (groin) still nursing a lingering injury, Uiagalelei is set to be the backup quarterback to Justin Herbert for Sunday's game against the Bills. The quarterback is set to suit up for his first game of the 2026 regular season, though he will likely not see any snaps unless Herbert is forced to exit the contest due to injury.
SEPTEMBER 26 • ROTOWIRE
Signs with LA practice squad The Chargers signed Uiagalelei to the practice squad Monday.
Impact The Chargers waived Uiagalelei during Sunday's cutdown day. The quarterback showed enough potential to once again be invited to the team's practice squad. Uiagalelei participated in all three preseason contests, completing 24 of his 42 pass attempts for 341 yards and two touchdowns.
SEPTEMBER 2 • ROTOWIRE
Waived by Chargers Uiagalelei was waived by the Chargers on Sunday, Tom Pelissero of Netflix reports.
Impact Despite a relatively productive collegiate career, Uiagalelei went undrafted in 2025 before spending time on the Chargers' practice squad as a rookie. He most recently appeared in three preseason games in 2026, throwing for 341 yards and two touchdowns while completing just 57.1 percent of his passing attempts. If Uiagalelei clears waivers, he could be brought back to the practice squad.

Set to spend offseason with Bolts Uiagalelei signed a reserve/future contract with the Chargers on Tuesday.
Impact Uiagalelei spent the entire 2025 season on the Chargers' practice squad after failing to make the active roster at the end of training camp. He was elevated for the Chargers' Week 18 clash against the Broncos and served as Trey Lance's backup, though the former did not see the field. Uiagalelei will be a part of the Chargers' 90-man roster in the offseason, allowing him to participate in OTAs and minicamp.

Returns to Bolts' practice squad Uiagalelei reverted to the Chargers' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Impact Uiagalelei spent the entire 2025 season on the Chargers' practice squad. He was elevated to the active roster for the first time Saturday and served as the team's backup quarterback behind Trey Lance for Sunday's 19-3 loss to the Broncos, though the former didn't end up playing a single snap. Uiagalelei is unlikely to see playoff action unless both Justin Herbert and Lance were to miss time.
