INJURIES

Misses practice Friday Freeman (ankle) missed Friday's practice and doesn't appear likely to play in Monday's game against Tampa Bay, Zack Rosenblatt of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Impact Freeman got some extra time to recover after he was injured in a Thursday game, but it appears the three additional days won't be enough to allow for a recovery. Wayne Gallman is expected to serve as the Giants' lead ballcarrier, though it can't be taken as a certainty unless the team officially rules Freeman out. The final injury report will be released at some point Saturday.

Held out of practice Thursday Freeman (ankle) didn't practice Thursday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
Impact Freeman tweaked his ankle last Thursday at Philadelphia, which didn't allow him to return to the game and also is keeping him sidelined to begin Week 8 prep. Instead, he worked out on the side Thursday, according to Dan Duggan of The Athletic. Fortunately for the seven-year pro, Freeman has a pair of opportunities to get back on the field in advance of Monday's game versus the Buccaneers. That said, if Freeman is limited or absent, he'll yield RB reps to Wayne Gallman and Dion Lewis.

Impact Even with the benefit of a lengthier turnaround between games with the Giants hosting the Buccaneers on Monday this week following a Thursday night game against the Eagles in Week 7, Freeman doesn't appear to have made much progress in his recovery from the ankle injury he sustained in the loss to Philadelphia. The fact that he was at least working out to the side Thursday suggests his injury isn't significant, but Freeman will have to get some reps with the main group Friday or Saturday to have a realistic shot of playing Monday night. Wayne Gallman is the next man up in the backfield for the Giants after rushing 10 times for 34 yards and a touchdown while catching five balls for 20 yards in relief of an injured Freeman in Week 7.
OCTOBER 29, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Non-participant in practice Freeman (ankle) was spotted working out on a side field during the Giants' practice session Tuesday, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.
Impact After losing last Thursday to the Eagles in Week 7, the Giants are beginning their Week 8 prep Tuesday due to the longer turnaround between games. Since the Giants won't play again until Monday versus Tampa Bay, the team will release its first Week 8 injury report Thursday, at which point it will be known where Freeman stands in his recovery from the ankle injury he picked up against Philadelphia. If Freeman is unable to get healthy in time for the matchup with the Buccaneers, Wayne Gallman would likely serve as the Giants' top ball carrier, while Dion Lewis would take on more work on passing downs.

NY Giants squander chance to get back into NFC East race

The New York Giants had a chance to be a contender in the mediocre NFC East and squandered it in Philadelphia
OCTOBER 23, 2020 • Associated Press
Doesn't return after ankle tweak Freeman didn't return to Thursday's 22-21 loss to the Eagles after exiting in the third quarter with an ankle injury, Tom Canavan of the Associated Press reports.
Impact Before departing, Freeman played only 12 snaps, carrying three times for eight yards while failing to haul in his lone target. Wayne Gallman stepped in after Freeman's early exit and was New York's most productive back on the night, finishing with 34 yards and a score on 10 carries to go with five receptions for 20 yards on five targets. The Giants won't hold a formal practice again until next Thursday, at which time more information on the severity of Freeman's injury will become available. He'll have 11 days to heal up in advance of a Monday night matchup with the Buccaneers in Week 8.

Leaves field with ankle injury Freeman (ankle) is questionable to return to Thursday's contest against the Eagles, Paul Schwartz of the New York Post reports.
Impact Freeman exited Thursday's contest late in the third quarter. He only had three carries for eight yards prior to leaving the field, in addition to one target (which he failed to secure). Wayne Gallman and Dion Lewis will handle the Giants' backfield work as long as Freeman remains sidelined.
OCTOBER 23, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Heavy rushing workload in win Freeman rushed 18 times for 61 yards and brought in one of two targets for minus-4 yards in the Giants' 20-19 win over the Washington Football Team on Sunday.
Impact Freeman saw his most extensive rushing volume yet as a member of the Giants, although it didn't net much against a tough WFT front seven. The veteran back has boosted his carry total in each contest thus far, though his pass-catching role remains relatively modest. Freeman's upside is limited behind a New York offensive line that's had difficulty opening up running lanes, and he'll have another formidable challenge on his hands in the form of the Eagles in a Week 7 Thursday night contest.

Scores first TD as Giant Freeman carried the ball 17 times for 60 yards and a touchdown and caught two of three targets for 27 yards in Sunday's 37-34 loss to the Cowboys.
Impact It was the former Falcon's best performance yet with his new team, and Freeman's four-yard TD run in the fourth quarter gave the Giants their last lead of the game at 34-31. Wayne Gallman and Dion Lewis combined for only five carries (all by Gallman) and four catches (two each), so it's clear Freeman has already locked down the lead role in the offense. He'll look to deliver solid numbers again in Week 6 against Washington.

Modest numbers in loss Freeman carried the ball 11 times for 33 yards and caught all four of his targets for 35 yards in Sunday's 17-9 loss to the Rams.
Impact He led the Giants in carries in his second game for the team, but he wasn't able to produce much yardage on the ground. Freeman has had a sluggish start to his Giants tenure, but he gets the most favorable matchup possible in Week 5 against a Cowboys defense that just got torn apart for 307 rushing yards and three TDs by a Browns ground game that was without Nick Chubb (knee) for most of the afternoon.
OCTOBER 5, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Likely to start Week 4 Freeman is expected to serve as the Giants' starting running back Sunday against the Rams, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
Impact While Freeman made his Giants debut in the team's Week 3 loss to the 49ers, Wayne Gallman technically drew the start, but he saw only one more touch (four carries, two receptions) than Freeman (five carries for 10 yards). Now that he's had more time to get familiar with the Giants' playbook, Freeman will likely poach some carries from Gallman, but Dion Lewis -- who led the three backs with a 38 percent offensive snap share Week 3 -- remains in line to work as the Giants' top passing-down option. Unless Freeman is able to cut into Lewis' passing-game role in future weeks, his fantasy upside in PPR leagues will likely be limited.

QB Jones leads Giants' running game without injured Saquon

Quarterback Daniel Jones has been the New York Giants’ running game this season, even before star halfback Saquon Barkley was lost for the season with a knee injury
SEPTEMBER 30, 2020 • Associated Press
Should be busier Week 4 Head coach Joe Judge said Freeman's role should increase this week, though the Giants still want to use a three-man rotation at running back, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Freeman led the team with five carries in Sunday's 36-9 loss to the 49ers, but he didn't draw any targets and played fewer snaps (29 percent) than both Dion Lewis (38 percent) and Wayne Gallman (35 percent). While it sounds like the split will shift more toward Freeman as he improves his knowledge of the playbook, he still appears to be part of a committee in a struggling offense, hardly the ideal situation for fantasy production. His Week 4 opponent has allowed 4.8 yards per carry this season, but Freeman may not have much change to take advantage, as the Giants are massive underdogs in a road game against the 2-1 Rams.
SEPTEMBER 30, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Five carries in team debut Freeman rushed five times for 10 yards in the Giants' 36-9 loss to the 49ers on Sunday.
Impact The new arrival did pace the Giants backfield in carries and drew even with quarterback Daniel Jones for the team lead in that category, but that didn't amount to much overall on an afternoon where game script quickly turned away from the ground attack. Freeman should have an opportunity for a bigger role in a Week 4 road matchup against the Rams after getting an opportunity to further immerse himself in the playbook and go through a full practice week.
SEPTEMBER 27, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Projected 30 percent snaps Fox's Jay Glazer said on their pregame show that Freeman will get about 30 percent of the Giants' offensive snaps in Week 3.
Impact Our expectations for this week were pretty modest, and this confirms that. It looks as if there will be a three-headed monster at running back this week, with Wayne Gallman and Dion Lewis also receiving significant workloads.
SEPTEMBER 27, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Suiting up for debut in New York Freeman is listed as active Sunday against the 49ers, Dan Graziano of ESPN.com reports.
Impact The Giants are facing life without Saquon Barkley due to his Week 2 ACL tear, but it's unclear exactly how the backfield will be pieced together in his absence. The team brought in Freeman to bolster the group after putting up at least 1,000 yards from scrimmage in four of his six seasons with the Falcons. That said, he's been a member of the Giants for less than a week, meaning incumbents Dion Lewis and Wayne Gallman seem like better bets to see high-leverage situations. On a positive note, though, Freeman should get a chance to mix into the offense at some point Sunday.
