INJURIES

Returning to practice The Giants designated Freeman (ankle) to return from injured reserve Friday, Dan Salomone of the team's official site reports.
Impact The 28-year-old was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday and has now been cleared to return to the practice field a day later. One day of practice likely won't be enough for Freeman to gain clearance for Sunday's game against the Browns, but he could still be activated ahead of the final two games of the season.

Comes off COVID-19 list The Giants reinstated Freeman (ankle) from the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.
Impact Though Freeman has cleared all COVID-19-related protocols, he remains on injured reserve and has yet to be designated for a return. Until that happens, Freeman won't be able to practice with the team, and given the time he's already missed with the ankle injury, it appears safe to rule him out for a return Sunday against the Browns. Instead, Freeman will likely attempt to increase his activity over the next several days with the hope of making it back to action for either of the Giants' final two regular-season contests.
DECEMBER 17, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Working on the side Wednesday Freeman (ankle/undisclosed) worked at the side of Wednesday's practice with a trainer, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Freeman stands to be officially removed from the reserve/COVID-19 list in the near future, given that he's returned to the Giants' team facilities. How much progress he's made in recovery from his ankle issue remains undetermined, however. Wayne Gallman has provided New York's running game with a much-needed spark, so it's by no means guaranteed that Freeman (3.2 YPC in five games) will reclaim the No. 1 gig when healthy.

Lands on COVID-19 list Freeman (undisclosed) was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Impact Freeman either tested positive for the virus or came into close contact with an infected person. The veteran running back will need to clear the league's COVID-19 protocols before returning to the Giants' facilities. Freeman was already on injured reserve with an ankle injury, so it remains unclear when he'll be ready to return to the lineup. Wayne Gallman will keep leading the backfield while Dion Lewis and Alfred Morris rotate in.

Giants place Devonta Freeman on IR; Alfred Morris, Montre Hartage signed off practice squad The Giants signed RB Alfred Morris and DB Montre Hartage off their practice squad.

Headed for IR The Giants are placing Freeman (ankle) on injured reserve, Zack Rosenblatt of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Impact Freeman can now be ruled out for Weeks 10 and 12, sandwiched around the Giants' bye. He'd been hoping to return for Sunday's game against the Eagles before he aggravated his ankle injury during practice Thursday. Wayne Gallman is now set up for at least two more games in the lead role, with Alfred Morris and Dion Lewis also likely to get some touches. The earliest possible date for Freeman to return would be Dec. 6 at Seattle (Week 13).
NOVEMBER 13, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Out for Sunday Freeman (ankle/hamstring) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Eagles, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official website reports.
Impact Freeman returned to practice Wednesday as a limited participant but then aggravated his ankle injury during Thursday's session. It's possible he'll be ready after a Week 11 bye, but for now he'll be out at least one more game. Wayne Gallman figures to lead the Giants backfield, with Alfred Morris and Dion Lewis also mixing in.
NOVEMBER 13, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Aggravates ankle injury Freeman was unable to finish Thursday's practice due to a "minor" aggravation of his ankle injury, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Impact Freeman was listed as 'limited' on Thursday's injury report, but seeing that he was forced off the field early due to an aggravation of the injury that's caused him to miss back-to-back games doesn't bode well. Rapoport notes that Freeman still hopes to return against the Eagles on Sunday, but it's reasonable to suspsect that his chances of playing could come down to how well he holds up during Friday's session. Wayne Gallman and Dion Lewis remain on hand, and Alfred Morris could also bump up from the practice squad.
NOVEMBER 12, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Officially limited Thursday Freeman (ankle) practiced in a limited capacity Thursday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
Impact Thursday's session began with an ominous tone when Freeman was seen leaving the field with a member of the Giants' training staff, per Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com. Freeman has missed back-to-back games due to an ankle injury and may be in store for another DNP considering Thursday's development. If he takes a seat Sunday against the Eagles, the Giants backfield will be the domain of Wayne Gallman, Dion Lewis and likely Alfred Morris.
NOVEMBER 12, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Leaves Thursday's practice Freeman, who's been dealing with an ankle issue, left the field with a trainer during Thursday's practice, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.
Impact Freeman logged a limited practice session Wednesday, so we'll have to see how the Giants list him Thursday and if this news is indicative of the running back having suffered a setback. If Freeman is unable to go Sunday against the Eagles, Wayne Gallman, Dion Lewis and Alfred Morris would presumably be the team's Week 10 backfield options.
NOVEMBER 12, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Limited again Wednesday Freeman (ankle) was limited at Wednesday's walk-through practice, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
Impact Despite wrapping up last week with back-to-back capped practices, Freeman was ruled out for this past Sunday's game in Washington. As a result, getting in some activity Wednesday isn't necessarily a sign that a return to action is nigh. In any case, Freeman's status bears watching in the coming days to see if he has a chance to suit up Sunday against the Eagles. If he misses a third straight contest, though, the Giants are poised to roll with Wayne Gallman, Dion Lewis and Alfred Morris out of the backfield.

Giants injury report: Devonta Freeman out vs. Washington New York Giants RB Devonta Freeman (ankle) is out in Week 9 against the Washington Football Team.
NOVEMBER 6, 2020 • USATODAY.COM
Out another week Freeman (ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's game at Washington, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.
Impact With Freeman out for a second straight game, the Giants are left with Wayne Gallman and Dion Lewis on the active roster and Alfred Morris on the practice squad. Gallman led the group in carries (12) and snap share (43 percent) during Monday's loss to Tampa Bay, but Morris and Lewis also had roles in the offense. Freeman's return to limited practice participation Thursday suggests he has a shot to return for Week 10 against the Eagles.
NOVEMBER 6, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Limited in return to practice Freeman (ankle) was a limited practice participant Thursday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
Impact Freeman's activity level was forecast after he took part in individual drills, per Dan Duggan of The Athletic. It remains to be seen if Freeman will be able to get all the way back in time for Sunday's game at Washington, but if he doesn't the Giants will lean on Wayne Gallman, Dion Lewis and practice squad member Alfred Morris out of the backfield.
NOVEMBER 5, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Still not practicing Freeman (ankle) was listed as a non-participant on Wednesday's injury report, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
Impact Freeman hasn't practiced since suffering an ankle injury Week 7 at Philadelphia, but he still has two chances to prove his health in advance of Sunday's matchup with Washington. If he's unable to get all the way back, he'll yield his workload to a combination of Wayne Gallman, Dion Lewis and practice squad member Alfred Morris.

Giants injury report: Devonta Freeman, Adrian Colbert out vs. Bucs New York Giants RB Devonta Freeman and S Adrian Colbert are out on Monday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
OCTOBER 31, 2020 • USATODAY.COM
Ruled out Freeman (ankle) will not play in Monday's matchup with the Buccaneers, Dan Salomone of the Giants' digital media team reports.
Impact Freeman was unable to practice all week, but the team was still holding out hope he would be able to suit up Sunday. However, the Giants have ultimately opted to err on the side of caution. As a result of the veteran back's absence, look for Wayne Gallman to get the start in the backfield, while Dion Lewis should also see some work.
OCTOBER 31, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Status still in question Freeman (ankle) "has a chance to play" according to coach Joe Judge, Zack Rosenblatt of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Impact We'll know more following the release of the team's final practice report later in the day, but for now this seems optimistic given the veteran running back has yet to practice all week. If Freeman can't suit up for the Monday night contest against the Buccaneers, expect Wayne Gallman and Dion Lewis to shoulder the offensive burden.
