What's Wrong With Drake Maye? And How Do The Patriots Fix Their QB?

Logs explosive play in loss Douglas caught one of his five targets for 38 yards in the Patriots' 35-6 loss to the Jaguars on Sunday.

Impact Douglas played 60 percent of the Patriots' offensive snaps in the loss. The sole ball the wide receiver was able to haul in went for a 38-yard gain, marking quarterback Drake Maye's longest pass of the night. Douglas continues to be a threat out of the slot for a struggling Patriots offense.

Logs decreased snap count in Week 2 loss Douglas caught one of two targets for nine yards Sunday in a 20-3 win over the Steelers.

Impact Douglas not only posted an unimpactful stat line, he also was on the field for only 47 percent of New England's offensive snaps after logging a a 62 percent snap share Week 1. Both Mack Hollins (71 percent) and Romeo Doubs (67 percent) recorded a significantly higher offensive snap share Week 2, though Douglas remained ahead of Kyle Williams (20 percent) and Efton Chism (18 percent). With only six catches (on nine targets) for 29 yards through two contests, Douglas has yet to give fantasy managers any confidence in deploying him in lineups.

Does little with five catches Douglas secured five of seven targets for 20 yards in the Patriots' 13-10 loss to the Seahawks on Wednesday.

Impact Douglas finished tied with Rhamondre Stevenson for the team lead in receptions while also setting the pace in targets for the Patriots on the night. The speedy fourth-year pro's elevated role seemed to be largely the byproduct of A.J. Brown's exit from the game on the first possession of the second half due to an ankle injury, which underscores the fact Douglas' week-to-week production is likely to remain volatile over the course of the season. However, if Brown, who Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald reports left the locker room wearing a walking boot Wednesday, misses any time, Douglas would be in line for additional snaps and targets.

Rested in preseason opener Douglas was among the Patriots' key skill players who didn't play in Thursday's preseason opener against the Colts, Mark Daniels of masslive.com reports.

Impact Also in that category were the team's top two WRs, A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs, while Kayshon Boutte, Mack Hollins and Kyle Williams all saw action in the contest. Douglas is listed as a first-teamer along with Brown and Doubs on New England's unofficial depth chart, and it looks like he could be poised for an uptick in snaps/targets out of the slot this coming season after seeing his catch total in 2025 drop to 31 following a 66-catch effort in 2024. In that scenario, the 2023 sixth-rounder has a chance to resurface as a fantasy option in deeper PPR-friendly formats.
