Increases reps Bell was given his most significant work of camp to date Tuesday, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.

Impact Bell's activity included multiple red zone targets from quarterback Jacoby Brissett, who is the leader of the first team offense for now. The rookie receiver's introduction to camp was delayed by a foot injury, and Bell was held out of last week's preseason game. His increased workload is a sign that's he's close or at full speed. Bell is expected to work on the first team during joint practices with the Eagles on Thursday and Friday, before the two teams meet Sunday in each club's second preseason match.

Status for opener not decided Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski has not made a decision on Bell's status for the preseason opener Friday in Jacksonville, Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.

Impact Bell missed the first week of camp due to a foot injury and only recently started participating in drills. He looked sharp Tuesday during red zone seven-on-seven drills, as did Anthony Schwartz, another receiver who recently returned from injury and whose status for Friday is undecided. The Browns have suffered numerous injuries at wideout -- some players have since returned -- but Stefanski may choose to play it cautious with several players.

Could play preseason opener Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski did not rule out Bell playing the preseason opener Friday in Jacksonville, Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.

Impact Bell was activated off the active/PUP list and practiced for the first time Saturday, but he was excluded from team drills, per Anthony Poisal of the Browns' official site. Stefanski referred to Bell as intelligent and noted the progress he made during offseason activities as reasons for the coach's optimism heading into Preseason Week 1. Bell is penciled in as the team's top slot receiver.

Off PUP list Bell was activated off the PUP list Saturday, Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reports.

Impact The 2022 third-round pick missed nine days of training camp as he recovered from what was reportedly a stress fracture in his foot. It's a welcome sight for a Browns receiving corps that is dangerously thin from a depth perspective with Anthony Schwartz (knee), Michael Woods (hamstring), Javon Wims (illness) and Isaiah Weston (torn ACL) all out recently with various injuries. Who ultimately starts the majority of the games for the Browns at quarterback this season will obviously be a major question mark, but Bell should at the very least have an opportunity to compete for a starting role throughout the preseason.

He'll be joined on the sidelines by Anthony Schwartz, who left Thursday's practice with a left knee injury that requires further evaluation. With the injuries piling up on the outside, Demetric Felton and rookie sixth-round pick Mike Woods figure to see added training camp reps.

Impact The Browns kicked off training camp Wednesday without Bell, who sustained the injury at some point late in the offseason program or at minicamp, according to Ahsley Bastock of The Cleveland Plain Dealer. Stefanski's comments about the Browns not considering adding another wide receiver at this time supports the notion that Bell's injury isn't seen as serious. The coach told Athony Poisal of the Browns' official site that the rookie is expected to be ready for Week 1. The organization views Bell as more advanced than other first-year players and feels he can pick up to playbook once he's medically cleared, but Bell will miss out on some valuable reps in camp.

Impact Per Cabot, Bell's foot issue isn't believed to be serious and the 2022 third-rounder should be able to practice soon. Once he's able to take the field again, Bell figures to compete with Donovan Peoples-Jones and Anthony Schwartz for depth chart slotting behind Cleveland's new No. 1 wideout, Amari Cooper. According to Jake Trotter of ESPN, Peoples-Jones will presumably get the first shot to be the team's No. 2 receiver, but once healthy, Bell -- who displayed sure hands during minicamp -- could challenge for a key role in the Browns offense if he impresses as the summer progresses.

Impact Before the combine, Bell was considered a fringe first-round prospect after putting up impressive numbers in three seasons at Purdue. Bell stepped into the No.1 role in the offense in place of the injured Rondale Moore as a true freshman and recorded 86 catches for 1,035 yards and seven touchdowns on 131 targets. He had a strong season in the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign and was impressive again as a junior with 93 catches for 1,286 yards. Despite the strong track record of production from an early age, Bell's testing sent his stock tumbling. Bell ran a 4.65 in the 40-yard dash and tested below the 40th percentile in his jumps at 6-foot-1, 212 pounds. Bell will be an interesting test case because of the combination of his stellar production and concerning lack of athleticism. Cleveland already has Amari Cooper and Donovan Peoples-Jones, but Bell could eventually carve out a role as a possession receiver in the underneath game.
