INJURIES

Logs full practice Williams (toe) practiced fully Wednesday.
Impact Williams, who returned to limited participation in practice last Friday, was inactive for Kansas City's divisional-round win over the Bills. However, his return to full participation to begin the current week paves the way for the running back to be available for Sunday's AFC Championship Game versus the Bengals, barring any setbacks. If Williams suits up this weekend, he would re-enter a backfield that also includes Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Jerick McKinnon. When all three players have been healthy this season, Williams hasn't typically seen enough volume to be a worthy fantasy option.

Sitting out divisional round Williams (toe) is inactive for Sunday night's divisional-round game against the Bills, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.
Impact After missing practice Wednesday and Thursday, Williams returned to a limited session Friday but will sit this one out. Meanwhile, Kansas City welcomes back Clyde Edwards-Helaire (shoulder) -- who last played Week 16 -- to a running back corps that also includes Jerick McKinnon, who led the team's ground game in last weekend's wild-card win over the Steelers, with Derrick Gore on hand in reserve. In Williams' absence, expect Edwards-Helaire to reclaim a solid share of the team's touches, with McKinnon involved as well in the wake of his effective outing in the Chiefs' playoff opener.

Questionable for Sunday's game Williams (toe) is officially listed as questionable for Sunday night's playoff game against the Bills after returning to a limited practice Friday.
Impact Meanwhile, Clyde Edwards-Helaire (shoulder) practiced fully all week and doesn't carry an injury designation, which sets the stage for him to suit up Sunday, barring any last-minute issues, according to Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com. Per Nate Taylor of The Athletic, coach Andy Reid previously indicated that he was hopeful Williams would be available for the contest, but the running back's divisional-round status won't be confirmed until Kansas City's inactives are released prior to Sunday's 6:30 ET kickoff. If active, Williams would presumably work in a time-share with Edwards-Helaire and Jerick McKinnon, who led the team's backfield in last weekend's wild-card win over the Steelers.

Misses another practice Williams (toe) didn't practice Thursday, Herbie Teope of The Kansas City Star reports.
Impact Williams missed Wednesday's practice as well, so what he's able to do Friday will be telling with regard to his chances of suiting up for Sunday's divisional-round game against the Bills. While Williams' status for the contest is cloudy for now, Clyde Edwards-Helaire (shoulder) has been practicing this week and thus is trending toward a return to action versus Buffalo. In Kansas City's wild-card win over the Steelers this past weekend, Williams logged just eight snaps on offense and one carry, while Jerick McKinnon led the team's backfield with 12 carries on 51 snaps.

Misses practice Williams (toe) didn't practice Wednesday, while Clyde Edwards-Helaire participated in some capacity, Herbie Teope of The Kansas City Star reports.
Impact Williams played through the injury in Sunday's 42-21 win over the Steelers, but he was limited to a backup role (eight snaps) and finished with four yards and a lost fumble (which T.J. Watt returned for a touchdown). With Edwards-Helaire missing the game altogether, Jerick McKinnon was the lead back and ultimately took 18 touches for 142 yards and a touchdown. The Chiefs' coaching staff hasn't revealed whether McKinnon will get the chance to repeat that workload Sunday against Buffalo in the divisional round, with Edwards-Helaire perhaps now the bigger threat than Williams.

Chiefs open up offense against Pittsburgh, eye Buffalo next

The Chiefs had to learn to dink and dunk their way through this entire season so you can bet they relished the chance to open up the offense against Pittsburgh on Sunday night
JANUARY 17, 2022 β€’ Associated Press
Suits up, limited to backup role Williams (toe) had just one carry for four yards, was charged with a fumble, and didn't draw a target in the passing game in a 42-21 win over the Steelers.
Impact Clyde Edwards-Helaire (shoulder) missed his third straight contest, but it was Jerick McKinnon who drew the start took over lead-back duties instead of Williams. Perhaps the 26-year-old -- who was listed as questionable heading into the contest -- was not as ready to play as pregame reports indicated, resulting in a underwhelming usage and a poor fantasy showing. He was effectively benched for the remainder of the contest after he was involved in a sloppy handoff from Mecole Hardman that resulted in a fumble that was scooped up by T.J. Watt and returned for a Steelers touchdown. The status of Edwards-Helaire is still uncertain for next round's tilt against the Bills, but McKinnon looks like the hot hand among Kansas City's remaining backfield options for the time being.

Suiting up Sunday Williams (toe) is listed as active for Sunday's wild-card game against the Steelers, Matt McMullen of the Chiefs' official site reports.
Impact Willliams approached the contest listed as questionable after practicing in a limited fashion this past week, but by Friday coach Andy Reid indicated that he thought the running back would be available Sunday, barring any pregame setbacks, per Herbie Teope of The Kansas City Star. With his availability for Kansas City's playoff opener confirmed, Williams is in line to head Kansas City's rushing attack versus Pittsburgh, with Clyde Edwards-Helaire (shoulder) ruled out for the third game in a row. Meanwhile, Derrick Gore and Jerick McKinnon are on hand to fill complementary/change-of-pace roles behind Williams.

Questionable for playoff opener Williams (toe) is listed as questionable for Sunday's wild-card game against the Steelers.
Impact Williams was able to practice in a limited fashion all week and despite getting a designation for the postseason opener, the running back appears to be trending toward playing, according to Adam Teicher of ESPN.com. On that note, head coach Andy Reid relayed Friday that he thinks Williams will be available "unless something happens" ahead of Sunday's 8:15 p.m. ET kickoff, per Herbie Teope of The Kansas City Star. Assuming he's active for the contest, Williams would be in line to head Kansas City's rushing attack, with Clyde Edwards-Helaire (shoulder) ruled out for the third game in a row. In that context, Derrick Gore and Jerick McKinnon will fill complementary roles behind Williams.
JANUARY 14, 2022 β€’ ROTOWIRE
Another limited practice Williams (toe) remained limited at practice Thursday.
Impact Meanwhile, fellow running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire (shoulder) didn't practice after logging a limited session Wednesday. Friday's final injury report should add some clarity with regard to the duo's chances of suiting up for Sunday's playoff game against the Steelers, but at this point Williams' availability for the contest looks more secure than Edwards-Helaire's.
JANUARY 13, 2022 β€’ ROTOWIRE
Limited in practice Williams (toe) was listed as a limited practice participant Wednesday.
Impact Clyde Edwards-Helaire (shoulder) was also limited, with head coach Andy Reid noting that both backs "looked good" in practice, per Herbie Teope of The Kansas City Star. While Reid added that the team will continue to evaluate both Edwards-Helaire and Williams in the coming days, the Chiefs should have a decent chance at having their top two backs available for Sunday's wild-card game against the Steelers.

Suited up for practice Williams (toe) and fellow Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire (shoulder) both took the field for Wednesday's practice, Herbie Teope of The Kansas City Star reports.
Impact Williams' presence on the field supports the notion that he avoided a serious injury when he was removed from the Chiefs' Week 18 win over Denver. However, his role may nonetheless be set to decline, with Edwards-Helaire also hoping to suit up for Sunday's wild-card game against the Steelers, after missing the final two games of the regular season.
JANUARY 12, 2022 β€’ ROTOWIRE
May miss no time with toe injury Coach Andy Reid said Monday that he believes Williams (toe) will be able to play in Sunday's wild-card game against the Steelers, Matt McMullen of the Chiefs' official site reports...
Impact Williams departed Saturday's regular-season finale at Denver due to a toe injury, which Reid described as "still a little tender." At the same time, Clyde Edwards-Helaire continues to contend with a shoulder injury that sidelined him for both Weeks 17 and 18. The situation will be one to monitor because if Edwards-Helaire is unable to make it all the way back, Williams again would feature as the Chiefs' main running back, assuming he's available himself. After Edwards-Helaire and Williams, Derrick Gore is the likely early-down runner, with Jerick McKinnon available in a change-of-pace role.
