INJURIES

Just one touch in Week 3 Williams had one carry for seven yards and didn't haul in his only target during Sunday's 20-12 loss to the Rams.
Impact In the wake of James Conner hurting his ankle in Week 2, there was a belief Williams would be the beneficiary if the former was limited or out in Week 3. Conner ended up playing his typical 60 percent of the offensive snaps, however, en route to 16 touches for 57 yards, while Williams logged 17 percent (and one touch) and Eno Benjamin managed 27 percent (and seven touches for 23 yards). There has been no word of an aggravation of Conner's injury, so Williams appears as though he'll be in a depth role once again Sunday in Carolina.

First touches with new team Williams had eight carries for 59 yards and one touchdown while hauling in two of three targets for three yards during Sunday's 29-23 overtime win at Las Vegas.
Impact One week removed from being contained to 15 special-teams snaps in his first action as a Cardinal, Williams was the third of the team's running backs to earn touches during this Week 2 contest behind James Conner and Eno Benjamin. Additional opportunity opened up in the second half when Conner left with an ankle injury, allowing Williams to lead the backfield in offensive snaps (40 of 87) and yards from scrimmage (62). Conner's issue isn't believed to be a long-term one, but Williams may be in line for more work in the short term if the former is limited or forced to miss any game action.

No offensive snaps in Week 1 Williams logged zero of 65 offensive snaps and 15 on special teams during Sunday's 44-21 loss to the Chiefs.
Impact James Conner is the unquestioned No. 1 running back in Arizona, but prior to Week 1 it was unclear who his top backup was among Williams, Eno Benjamin, Jonathan Ward and rookie sixth-round pick Keaontay Ingram. Ingram was removed as a consideration when he was deemed inactive before Sunday's kickoff. Then, as the opener played out, Benjamin was the only one of the remaining trio to get snaps on offense (22) behind Conner (47), while Williams and Ward (14 plays) were contained to special teams. Williams could enter the game plan as soon as Week 2, but Benjamin was efficient with his seven touches (61 total yards), so the latter seems poised to remain Conner's No. 2 for the foreseeable future.

Gets first preseason work Williams received one carry for three yards in Sunday's 24-17 preseason loss to the Ravens.
Impact It was Williams' first work in an Arizona uniform after signing with the club this past offseason. The veteran back received his lone touch with the first half (starter James Connor rested), indicating that the 27-year-old will likely compete with Eno Benjamin for the primary backup role behind the Cardinals' workhorse to begin the regular season.

Lands deal with Arizona Williams signed with the Cardinals on Tuesday, NFL reporter Jordan Schultz reports.
Impact Williams finished the 2021 campaign with 558 rushing yards, 452 receiving yards and eight total touchdowns across 17 appearances for Kansas City last season. The AFC West squad reportedly wanted to re-sign Williams this offseason, but the 27-year-old opted to test free agency instead. In Arizona, Williams will compete with rookie Keaontay Ingram and second-year back Eno Benjamin for touches behind James Connor, but Williams' experience and pass protection skills likely land him as the favorite to earn the No. 2 spot on the depth chart to start 2022.

Set to test free agency Williams is slated to test the free-agent market, Herbie Teope of The Kansas City Star reports.
Impact Per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, the Chiefs tried to re-sign Williams -- who worked in tandem with Clyde Edwards-Helaire last season -- ahead of the opening of free agency. With no deal arrived at, the 26-year-old, who led the team with 558 rushing yards (on 144 carries) and added 47 catches for 452 yards and eight total TDs in 17 games in 2021, now is on track have a chance to field offers from other teams looking for backfield help.

Suits up Sunday Williams (toe) is listed as active for Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Bengals, Herbie Teope of The Kansas City Star reports.
Impact After logging a full practice Wednesday, Williams, who was inactive for last weekend's divisional-round win over Buffalo, was listed as limited Thursday and Friday, before being officially deemed questionable ahead of Sunday's contest. While Williams is in uniform, it remains to be seen how much of a workload he'll see in his return to action, with both Jerick McKinnon and Clyde Edwards-Helaire also in Kansas City's backfield mix. With that in mind, Williams, who recorded 144 carries for 558 yards and six TDs to go along with 47 catches for 452 yards and a pair of receiving scores in 17 regular-season appearances, profiles as a hit-or-miss fantasy option versus Cincinnati, while coming off his toe injury.
JANUARY 30, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Chance to play Sunday Williams (toe) is trending toward a game-time decision for Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Bengals, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Williams was forced out of a Week 18 win at Denver and has managed just eight offensive snaps and one carry in one appearance in the meantime in the wild-card round versus the Steelers. Despite being questionable last Sunday against the Bills -- as he is this weekend -- he was among the Chiefs' inactives in the divisional round. Williams apparently is feeling better this time around, but the team ultimately will make a decision on his availability about 90 minutes before Sunday's 3:00 p.m. ET kickoff. Even if Williams is active, though, he may be a distant third in the backfield pecking order behind Jerick McKinnon and Clyde Edwards-Helaire.
JANUARY 29, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Deemed questionable for AFCCG Williams (toe) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Bengals.
Impact Williams was listed as a full practice participant Wednesday before sliding back to limited Thursday and Friday. He also was listed as questionable for KC's first two playoff games, but he logged just eight snaps in the wild-card round and was inactive for the divisional-round win over Buffalo. Even if Williams plays, he may just be the No. 3 back behind Jerick McKinnon and Clyde Edwards-Helaire at this point, especially if he's fighting through pain.
JANUARY 28, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Logs limited practice Williams (toe) was limited at practice Thursday.
Impact Williams practiced fully Wednesday, but at this stage it's unclear if his limitations Thursday were maintenance-related or indicative of a setback. What the running back is able to do during Friday's session should add clarity with regard to his status for Sunday's AFC Championship Game versus the Bengals. If Williams is available this weekend, his return to the mix would bolster a Kansas City backfield that was led by Jerick McKinnon and Clyde Edwards-Helaire in the team's divisional-round win over the Bills.
