Impact Former Viking Mackensie Alexander (ribs) had been the Bengals' go-to option at nickelback over the first three games of the season, but he is considered doubtful for Week 5 after sitting out last Sunday's win over the Jaguars. Phillips has fielded at least 88 percent of Cincinnati's defensive snaps in every game this season, but this week he is being asked to shut down Ravens slot receivers as his primary responsibility. LeShaun Sims, meanwhile, has been pegged to start as a perimeter corner against Baltimore's 31st-ranked pass offense.

Impact Phillips was limited in Thursday's practice but quickly shook off the issue, so he'll start against the Chargers in the first game of the season. He logged only 109 defensive snaps over eight games last season, and the Bengals were expected to start Trae Waynes (pectoral) this year, but Waynes was placed on IR. This could be a tough matchup for Phillips, especially if Mike Williams (shoulder) plays for the Chargers.
