Dare Ogunbowale's "flash plays" caught attention on Sunday Houston Texans RB Dare Ogunbowale turned some heads in his limited time on offense Sunday at Las Vegas.

Featured in fourth quarter Ogunbowale had one carry for eight yards and caught five of seven targets for 54 yards in Sunday's 38-20 loss to the Raiders in Week 7.

Impact Ogunbowale, normally a special teams regular, made his biggest impact of the season on offense. The Texans featured him on their final drive -- that's when he had all of his touches and targets -- in what Houston head coach Lovie Smith described to Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle as "trying to find a spark." Smith didn't insinuate that Rex Burkhead, who has been the primary pass catcher out of the backfield, was lacking in any way, but it is interesting to see Ogunbowale's cameo appearance. The 28-year-old back has been primarily a special teams ace during his time in Washington, Tampa Bay, Jacksonville and now with Houston.

Catches lone target Ogunbowale was not given a carry and caught his lone target for eight yards in Saturday's 17-13 preseason win over New Orleans.

Impact Ogunbowale is on the bubble in a competition with Royce Freeman to become the fourth running back, which the Texans usually carry. He had three snaps on offense during the first two series, while Freeman was handed the rock 12 times in 36 snaps. Ogunbowale also was seen returning kicks in pregame warmups, per Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle, but he didn't get a chance to return during the game. It's not a given the team rosters four running backs. Houston may designate that spot for a fullback, particularly if there's a player at another position they'd rather retain.

Impact Ogunbowale joins a Texans running-back corps in transition. Once the dust settles after free agency and the draft, however, a better read on Ogunbowale's role in 2022 should become available. In all likelihood, the 27-year-old will enter the upcoming season no higher than second on the depth chart, as he's been relegated to a depth role throughout his career and hasn't been especially productive with his limited opportunities.

Minor production on 14 touches Ogunbowale had 11 carries for 30 yards and caught three of six targets for 25 yards during Sunday's 26-11 win over the Colts.

Impact Ogunbowale played 68 percent of the offensive snaps and led Jacksonville's backfield with 14 touches, though Ryquell Armstead out-produced him with 11 touches for 62 yards. Ogunbowale took on a larger role down the stretch following injuries to James Robinson (Achilles) and Carlos Hyde (concussion), and he finished 2021 with 43 carries for 137 yards and one touchdown to go along with 13 catches for 114 yards and another score. The 27-year-old will enter next season as a restricted free agent, so he could return to the Jags in a depth role should the team tender him a contract.

Impact Ogunbowale was unable to find much success through most of the afternoon, though he salvaged the day for fantasy managers with a 28-yard touchdown catch-and-run on a screen pass in garbage time. He mostly split backfield work with Ryquell Armstead, who had seven touches, but neither back found much success prior to the touchdown. Ogunbowale should operate as Jacksonville's top tailback again in Week 18, but he has a limited ceiling in a tough matchup versus Indianapolis.

Impact Robinson reportedly suffered a partial tear of his Achilles, per Michael DiRocco of ESPN. That injury will almost certainly sideline Robinson for the remainder of the season, so Ogunbowale should continue to work as Jacksonville's lead back in Week 17 against the Patriots and Week 18 against the Colts. Ogunbowale made the most of his opportunity in this one, finding the end zone from one yard out in the fourth quarter for his first touchdown in two seasons as a member of the Jaguars.
