Likely to sit Saturday Most of the Giants' starters, including Jones, are expected to be held out of Saturday's preseason finale against the Jets, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.

Impact Jones also skipped New York's preseason opener against Detroit on Aug. 8, but he did suit up for the team's second exhibition contest last Saturday versus Houston, playing the entire first half and completing 11 of 18 passes for 138 yards and two interceptions while adding 12 yards on one carry on the ground. That (and the Giants' preseason joint practices with the Lions and Jets) appear to be enough to satisfy the team's brass in regard to Jones' readiness for the regular season despite the fact that the QB didn't play after Week 9 last year due to a torn ACL. Jones will also be working with a number of different pieces on offense this season -- Darren Waller retired and Saquon Barkley departed to Philadelphia while New York drafted dynamic wideout Malk Nabers with the sixth overall pick in April's NFL Draft.

Impact The Giants' first-team offense stayed on the field for the entire first half, giving Jones plenty of reps in his first game action since he suffered a torn ACL in Week 9 of last season. The 27-year-old quarterback predictably looked rusty and threw two bad picks on back-to-back possessions, one of which came from his own end zone and was returned five yards for a touchdown by Jalen Pitre. Jones also had some good moments too though, including a 44-yard connection with Darius Slayton in the second quarter that set up a one-yard TD plunge for Devin Singletary. The Giants play one more exhibition contest next Saturday against the Jets, but it's not yet clear if Jones will suit up for it, or if he won't be under center again until Week 1 against the Vikings.

Set to play in second preseason game Giants head coach Brian Daboll said that Jones will likely play in Saturday's preseason game against the Texans, Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post reports.

Impact Jones received full medical clearance ahead of training camp after completing his recovery from November surgery to repair an ACL tear, but the Giants nonetheless chose to hold him out of their 14-3 win over the Lions in the preseason opener Thursday. No. 2 quarterback Drew Lock received the start and suffered a hip injury that will keep him from suiting up against the Texans, so Tommy DeVito now stands to operate as the top backup to Jones on Saturday. Daboll didn't go into specifics regarding how long Jones might stay in the game against the Texans, but the 27-year-old signal-caller should at least get a series or two.

Impact The same is true for most of the Giants' other starters, including new No. 1 receiver Malik Nabers. Raanan notes that the second week of the preseason, against Houston, is when the Giants are most likely to play starters. There haven't been any reports of setbacks with Jones' surgically repaired knee.

Impact Daboll even said Jones is "getting all the reps" with the first-team offense, essentially confirming that the 27-year-old will be New York's Week 1 starter. However, Daboll didn't shut down the possibility of Jones being benched later in the season to avoid future injury guarantees in his contract, instead telling reporters that any such consideration is a "ways down the road," per Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post. The combination of Jones' rushing ability and an improved receiving corps in New York could make him a surprisingly useful second QB in fantasy leagues, but he should probably be dropped down the rankings in formats that put a premium on late-season production. In addition to the risk of a situation like Russell Wilson's in Denver late last year, there's always the possibility Jones is simply benched in favor of Drew Lock for performance reasons, not to mention concerns about Jones' rushing production dropping after an ACL tear and lengthy rehab process.
