Nabs two catches as Waller's backup Bellinger caught both of his targets or 13 yards in Sunday's 24-6 Week 15 loss to New Orleans.

Impact Bellinger worked as New York's starting tight end while Waller was on IR with a hamstring injury between Week 9 and Week 14, but he returned to a backup role with the latter returning Sunday. Bellinger averaged a modest 2.2 receptions for 27.6 yards during his five-game starting stint, and he wasn't far off those numbers while working behind Waller against the Saints. Waller appeared to come out of the contest in good health, so Bellinger should again see limited receiving opportunities next Monday against the Eagles.

Impact Bellinger has registered close to 90 percent of the team's offensive snaps dating back to Week 8, so if he's unable to go it would be a major strain on the team's tight end depth. Expect Lawrence Cager to receive the bulk of the opportunities if the 23-year-old is unable to play.

Impact Bellinger worked almost exclusively as a starter as a rookie last season, but he's taken a back seat for the most part in 2023 with New York signing Waller in the offseason. However, Waller suffered a hamstring injury in Sunday's loss to the Jets and has indicated that he's likely to miss multiple contests. That should push Bellinger into a more prominent role, though he shouldn't be expected to match Waller's success as a pass catcher. Daniel Jones (neck) is expected to return to action Sunday against Las Vegas after missing each of New York's past three games, which should boost the outlook of Bellinger and the team's entire pass-catching corps. Still, Bellinger averaged a modest 2.5 catches for 22.3 yards over 12 contests working with Jones as the team's top TE last year, so expectations for his production in Waller's stead should be tempered.

Goes without target Sunday Bellinger went without a target while playing 39 of the Giants' 77 snaps on offense in Sunday's 14-9 loss to the Bills.

Impact Sunday's game marked just the second time all season that Bellinger failed to draw a target. Aside from the Giants' Week 4 loss to the Seahawks in which he exited early due to injury, Bellinger has played at least 35 percent of the team's snaps on offense in every contest. However, so long as top tight end Darren Waller is available, Bellinger is likely to operate mainly as a blocker when he takes the field.

Impact After being taken in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Bellinger quickly worked his way up to being New York's starting tight end. Though he performed admirably in the role, finishing the campaign with 30 catches for 268 yards and two receiving touchdowns (and adding a touchdown on his only rush attempt) over 11 games, the Giants traded for Waller to help perk up their passing game soon after handing out a four-year contract to quarterback Daniel Jones. Waller's arrival will almost certainly mean fewer opportunities for Bellinger, but Dunleavy notes that the organization hasn't lost any faith in Bellinger's ability. That said, from a fantasy perspective, Bellinger isn't likely to make much of an impact as long as Waller is healthy.

Impact Bellinger saw his snap count rise steadily from Week 1 to Week 6 before suffering an eye injury against Jacksonville in Week 7. The issue required surgery and cost him four contests, but Bellinger immediately slotted back into a starting role upon his return and received the lion's share of New York's tight end snaps the rest of the way, including in two postseason contests during which he tallied three catches on five targets for 21 yards. While the rookie out of San Diego State didn't record more than five receptions or 42 yards in any game during the campaign, he made at least one catch in every contest after Week 1 and solidified his place as the Giants' tight end of the future. New York has a bevy of pass catchers along with quarterback Daniel Jones slated for free agency this offseason, so Bellinger's outlook for next year could be impacted by who the team adds, retains and parts ways with.
