Jets make it official and release quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who's now a first-time free agent

Aaron Rodgers is officially no longer a member of the New York Jets
MARCH 13 • ASSOCIATED PRESS
Let go by Jets The Jets released Mosley (neck) on Wednesday.
Impact Per Rich Cimini of ESPN.com, Mosley will be designated as a post-June 1 cut in order to spread out that cap hit that comes with his release. In doing so, the Jets clear $4 million in cap space for 2025 while taking on $8.784 million in dead money. Mosley battled neck and toe issues last season, limiting him to parts of just four games. He played in all 17 regular-season games each of the previous two seasons and was selected to the Pro Bowl and named a second-team All-Pro as recently as 2022. He turns 33 years old in June. It's unclear how much Mosley' body has left to give to football.

Injuries derail 2024 campaign Mosley (neck) recorded 17 total tackles (13 solo) over four games in 2024.
Impact Mosley sustained a toe injury in the Jets' Week 1 loss to the 49ers that sidelined him for three of the team's next six games. He was limited in the games he did play as well, logging just 43 defensive snaps across those three contests. The veteran linebacker then suffered a neck injury during the pregame warmups before the Week 8 matchup against the Patriots, which led to him being sidelined for the remainder of the season. Mosley remains under contract through the 2025 season, so he's expected to stay with the Jets. The 32-year-old has averaged 156 total tackles in his last three full NFL seasons and is projected to serve as one of the Jets' top inside linebackers next year once he's recovers from his neck injury.

Placed on injured reserve The Jets placed Mosley (neck) on injured reserve Saturday.
Impact Mosley had missed the Jets' last five regular-season games due to a herniated disk in his neck. With the Jets unlikely to make the postseason, Mosley will likely end the 2024 campaign on IR. He appeared in just four regular-season games and logged 17 tackles (13 solo) over that span. Jamien Sherwood will start at middle linebacker for the rest of the 2024 regular season due to Mosley's injury.
DECEMBER 8, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Set to go on IR Head coach Jeff Ulbrich announced Friday that Mosley will be placed on injured reserve due to a herniated disk in his neck, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Impact Mosley had been sidelined for the Jets' last five games due to a neck injury. He appeared to be on track to play against the Dolphins on Sunday after logging a full practice Wednesday, but he was unable to see the field Thursday. With just five games left in the 2024 regular season and the Jets unlikely to make the playoffs at 3-9, Mosley's move to IR will effectively end his first year with Gang Green. Jamien Sherwood will continue to start at middle linebacker in Mosley's absence.
DECEMBER 6, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Full go for Wednesday Mosley (neck) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Mosley has been sidelined for the Jets' last five games due to a neck injury; however, Wednesday's full practice session suggests he's now fully recovered from the issue. Expect the 10th-year pro to return for the Jets' Week 14 matchup in Miami, serving as the team's top inside linebacker.
DECEMBER 4, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Not playing Sunday Mosley (neck) is inactive for Sunday's matchup with the Seahawks, Randy Lange of the Jets' official site reports.
Impact Mosley, who missed the four games prior to New York's Week 12 bye with the injury, was hoping to play in Week 13 after practicing in full Wednesday and Thursday, but he collided with running back Braelon Allen on a short-yardage play during a padded session Thursday and felt residual soreness, per Rich Cimini of ESPN.com. Cimini added that Mosley wants to err on the side of caution and sit at least another week. The starting middle linebacker has 17 tackles (13 solo) in the four games he has played this season.
DECEMBER 1, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Viewed as game-time call Mosley (neck) remains listed as questionable and is viewed as a game-time decision for Sunday's tilt with the Seahawks, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Impact While Mosley was listed as a full practice participant Wednesday and Thursday, he downgraded to limited activity Friday before taking a designation into the weekend. Though it's possible that his activity was limited Friday as a matter of caution, Mosley had missed each of the Jets' last four games before the team's Week 12 bye due to the neck issue. As such, the Jets may have preferred for Mosley to be a full practice participant throughout the week before clearing him for game action, though the door isn't closed on him suiting up Sunday. The Jets may put Mosley through a pregame workout before deciding on his status closer to the 1 p.m. ET kickoff.
DECEMBER 1, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Could return in Week 13 Mosley (neck) is questionable to play Sunday against the Seahawks, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Mosley has missed the Jets' past four games while dealing with a neck issue, but he was able to log an FP/FP/LP practice progression this week and enters the weekend deemed questionable. The veteran linebacker would presumably move into a starting role if he's able to return, though he could be on a managed snap count given the nature of his injury and the fact that he's played more than one-third of New York's defensive snaps only once this season (in Week 1). Mosley's return would likely lead to less defensive snaps for Sam Eguavoen.
NOVEMBER 30, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Practicing in full Wednesday Mosley (neck) was a full participant at practice Wednesday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Mosley has been sidelined for the Jets' last four contests by a lingering neck issue, but his involvement at practice Wednesday signals he could play again as soon as Sunday. If he can also log full practices Thursday and Friday, he could even go into the weekend without an injury designation.
NOVEMBER 27, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Hopeful he'll play again in 2024 Mosley said Monday he's optimistic about the progress he has made in recovering from neck surgery, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Mosley has missed the Jets' last four games due to a lingering neck issue, but he's still bullish on his chances of returning at some point during the home stretch of the campaign. His name will be one to look out for when the Jets release their first official practice report of the week Wednesday.
NOVEMBER 25, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Out again Mosley (neck) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Colts, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Mosley will miss his fourth straight game, and his next chance to play will be in Week 13 against the Seahawks following the Jets' upcoming Week 12 bye. Quincy Williams and Jamien Sherwood will continue to handle linebacker duties for the Jets.
NOVEMBER 15, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
DNP on Wednesday Mosley (neck) didn't practice Wednesday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Mosley has been sidelined for each of the Jets' last three games due to a neck injury sustained Week 7 loss to the Patriots, and Wednesday's DNP suggests he could be in jeopardy of missing even more time. If the veteran linebacker cannot upgrade to at least limited participation Thursday or Friday, expect Sam Eguavoen to continue seeing increased work with New York's first-team defense.
NOVEMBER 13, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Won't face Arizona Mosley (neck) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Eric Allen of the Jets' official site reports.
Impact Mosley will miss his third straight game with a neck injury that required surgery this week. The veteran linebacker has been dealing with a stinger that is hindering his range of motion. Quincy Williams and Jamien Sherwood will continue to handle linebacker duties for the Jets.
NOVEMBER 8, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Undergoes procedures Mosley will not practice Wednesday after undergoing a couple of procedures to loosen up his neck, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports.
Impact Mosley had claimed to be dealing with a stinger and was suffering with his range of motion. The procedures done were meant to help with that, according to head coach Jeff Ulbrich, via Rich Cimini of ESPN.com. Although the procedures have helped, according to Ulbrich, Mosely will not suit up until the full range of motion has returned, which could still be another couple of weeks.
NOVEMBER 6, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Won't play Thursday Mosley (neck) has been ruled out ahead of Thursday's game against the Texans.
Impact Mosley underwent an MRI on his neck Monday after sustaining the injury during pregame warmups before Sunday's game against the Patriots. He's set to see a neck and spine specialist, which could mean that he misses time beyond Thursday's game. While Mosley is sidelined, Chazz Surratt will see increased snaps with the first-team defense.
OCTOBER 30, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Undergoes MRI Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich told reporters Monday that Mosley (neck) underwent an MRI and is visiting with a neck and spine specialist, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Mosely needing to see a neck and spine specialist following an MRI suggests that his injury could be serious. The veteran linebacker will likely be held out in Week 9, as the Jets have a short week playing Thursday night against the Texans. Expect Chazz Surratt to see increased work with the Jets' first-team defense is Mosely cannot suit up Thursday.
