Impact Hubbard played nearly half of Carolina's offensive snaps, leading the team's skill-position players in touches. In the process, he again flashed his big-play ability, going for 29 yards on a reception during the first quarter. That, of course, came after Hubbard ripped off a 59-yard run in his preseason debut. It wasn't all pretty for Hubbard on Saturday, though, as he couldn't punch in two handoffs from the one-yard line to begin the game, and then fumbled later on. The Panthers fortunately recovered his miscue, but Hubbard nonetheless will be eager to cement his role as Christian McCaffrey's backup with a strong overall showing in Friday's preseason finale versus the Steelers.

Impact Hubbard was selected in the fourth round after a productive college career at Oklahoma State. He wasn't used often in the passing game, however, and has drawn mixed reviews in that department through training camp thus far. After Bonnafon played just two games due to injury last season, it'll be interesting to see whether he or the rookie Hubbard becomes superstar Christian McCaffrey's top understudy prior to Week 1.

Set to back up McCaffrey The Panthers selected Hubbard in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, 126th overall.

Impact Carolina adds a depth option behind Christian McCaffrey with Mike Davis leaving in free agency. Hubbard was a star at Oklahoma State who could have gone higher had he left for the draft after his 2019 season in which he ran for 2,094 yards and 21 touchdowns while averaging 6.4 yards per carry. Injuries cut his final season short and he averaged just 4.7 yards per carry. Hubbard was lightly used as a pass catcher with just 53 catches in three seasons, so that could be an area for improvement at the next level. If nothing else, he's a viable back who can help lighten the load on McCaffrey in Carolina when needed.
