Impact In his first season with the Texans, Kirksey, who turns 30 in August, recorded 93 tackles -- the most he's put up since 2017 -- over the course of 13 games (12 starts), while adding one interception. He's now in line to retain his starting linebacker spot this coming season, a role that resulted in Kirksey being Houston's defensive signal-caller in 2021.
MARCH 11, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Leading tackler in finale Kirksey had eight tackles, two for a loss, and one pass defensed in the 28-25 loss to Tennessee in Week 18.
Impact Kirksey was one of several defensive players on one-year deals that increased his market value. He tied for second on the team with 93 tackles over 13 games. Kirksey missed time during the middle of the season after undergoing surgery to repair a fractured thumb. Once he returned, the eighth-year linebacker recorded 37 tackles, three passes defensed and a fumble recovery over the final five games. Kamu Grugier-Hill, another linebacker working on a on a one-year contract, was the only Texan to finish with more tackles. Like Grugier-Hill, Kirksey enters the offseason as an unrestricted free agent, and the Texans are expected to make an effort to bring back both.

Returns from COVID list Kirksey was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday, Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports.
Impact Kirksey's return will be a boost to the Texans' defense after he missed their Week 15 matchup with Jacksonville. The veteran has barely missed a snap this season when healthy, recording 73 tackles (44 solo), six passes defensed, two fumble recoveries and an interception in 10 games. He'll look to add to those numbers Sunday against the Chargers.

Marks return with solid performance Kirksey recorded seven tackles (five solo), one pass defended, and a fumble recovery in Sunday's 31-0 loss to the Colts.
Impact Kirksey, one day removed from his return off injured reserve, registered one of his better performances of the year as he played on nearly every defensive snap for Houston. The linebacker has now recorded at least one pass defended in five of nine games played and sits at a career high of six on the season. Kirksey should continue to put up solid numbers given his prominent role in stopping both the run and the pass for the Texans defense.

Impact Kirksey returned to practice earlier in the week and had a 21-day window to be activated. It did not take long, and he will now be ready to suit up after recovering from a fractured thumb in Week 7.
DECEMBER 4, 2021 • ROTOWIRE

Impact Kirksey will resume practicing, and the Texans have 21 days to officially activate him. If the fractured thumb he suffered in Week 7 is no longer giving him trouble, Kirksey could return to the field as soon as Sunday against the Colts.
