Participates Saturday Lewis made one tackle assist during Saturday's preseason opener against the Browns.
Impact The starting free safety played just 15 percent of the Bears' defensive snaps in the contest, participating in just 10 defensive plays. Any playing time is a good sign for Lewis, who has recently healed from a leg injury where he needed to be carted off the practice field. The 29-year-old will likely see a similar snap share in Saturday's preseason contest against the Bengals.

Avoids serious injury Lewis (leg) did not participate in Sunday's practice, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribunereports.
Impact Lewis was carted off the field Saturday with a leg issue, but Coach Denis Allen said that the cornerback's injury is not likely to sideline him for too long. This means that Lewis probably avoided any severe injury and will just need to rehab whatever part of his leg is causing the minor issue.
AUGUST 9 • ROTOWIRE
Carted off field Saturday Lewis left the field on a cart with a trainer Saturday after appearing to suffer a left leg injury, Sean Hammond of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Impact Lewis was hurt during a two-minute drill and limped off the field while favoring his left leg. Though he was carted to the locker room, Greg Braggs Jr. of CHGO Sports notes that it's "standard procedure" for players to get a cart when hurt on Fields 3 and 4 (as Lewis was), whether the injury is serious or not. With that in mind, Lewis' outlook is hazy for the time being.

Impact Defensive coordinator Dennis Allen stated that Lewis is shifting his focus from nickel to safety with Coby Bryant out eight-to-10 weeks after suffering a knee injury during training camp. The 29-year-old signed a two-year deal with Chicago this offseason after spending six seasons with Buffalo. With the change in position, both Josh Blackwell and rookie fourth-round pick Malik Muhammad should get more reps in the slot while Kyler Gordon recovers from an offseason calf injury.

Bolstering Chicago's secondary Lewis agreed to terms Tuesday on a contract with the Bears, Chris Emma of 670TheScore.com reports.
Impact Lewis will sign a two-year deal with the Bears after being a reliable backup for the Bills. The defensive back played in all 17 regular-season games for the team in 2025, starting in four of them. He accumulated 43 tackles (33 solo) and had four passes defensed as well as two forced fumbles over the course of the season. Lewis has experience at slot cornerback, outside cornerback and safety. The 28-year-old's versatility should bring a new element to the Bears' secondary in 2026.
MARCH 10 • ROTOWIRE
Minimal defensive work in 2025 Lewis recorded 43 total tackles (33 solo), four passes defensed and two forced fumbles across 17 regular-season games in 2025.
Impact After starting six games and playing 569 defensive snaps during the Bills' 2024 campaign, Lewis started just four contests and logged 370 defensive snaps this season. Despite this, the Buffalo product remained a key contributor, tying for the fourth-most passes defensed while playing 222 special-teams snaps. Set to hit unrestricted free agency this offseason, Lewis will likely draw interest from teams in need of secondary depth ahead of the 2026 season.

Questionable to return Lewis (undisclosed) is questionable to return Buffalo's divisional-round matchup versus the Broncos on Saturday.
Impact Lewis is currently dealing with cramping, which caused him to exit the game late in the first half. Darnell Savage will replace Lewis at safety if he ends up being unable to return.
JANUARY 17 • ROTOWIRE
Set to suit up Week 17 Lewis (hamstring) does not have an injury designation for Sunday's clash against Philadelphia.
Impact Lewis was deemed a limited participant in practice Wednesday and Thursday but was able to log a full practice Friday. He thus has avoided an injury designation and will be in action Sunday. Lewis has yet to miss a game this season, but his defensive snap count has been trending down of late, and he logged just a 14 percent share last Sunday against the Browns.
DECEMBER 26, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Good to go Week 16 Lewis (hamstring) is active for Sunday's game against the Browns.
Impact Lewis was limited in the final two practices of Week 16 prep due to a hamstring injury, but he has been cleared to play Sunday after going through pregame warmups. He has contributed on both defense and special teams this season and has accumulated 35 tackles (26 solo), four pass defenses and two forced fumbles through 14 regular-season games.
DECEMBER 21, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Questionable for Week 16 Lewis (hamstring) is listed as questionable ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Browns.
Impact Lewis popped up on the Bills' injury report Thursday, logging two consecutive limited sessions to end the week of practice due to a hamstring injury. The 28-year-old has appeared in all 14 of Buffalo's games this season, recording 35 total tackles, four passes defensed and two forced fumbles. If active for the Week 16 contest, Lewis will likely play a reserve role in the Bills' secondary.
