INJURIES

Ready to practice Denver designated Okwuegbunam (hamstring) for return from injured reserve Tuesday, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
Impact Okwuegbunam is thus eligible to resume practicing as of Tuesday, but because he's still on IR, the Broncos won't have to disclose the extent of his participation until he officially rejoins the 53-man roster. With that in mind, gauging whether Okwuegbunam is on pace to play Sunday against Washington could be difficult, but whenever he's brought off IR within then next 21 days, he should step back in as the No. 2 tight end behind Noah Fant. Before he was deactivated Oct. 9 due to the hamstring injury, Okwuegbunam recorded nine receptions for 57 yards and a touchdown on 10 targets through Denver's first four games.

Nearing return Okwuegbunam (hamstring) is expected to return to practice following the Broncos' Week 7 matchup with Washington, Ben Swanson of the team's official website reports.
Impact Okwuegbunam has been on IR since Oct. 9. While he is expected to return to practice in the upcoming week, head coach Vic Fangio is uncertain whether he will be able to return in Week 9. Okwuegbunam projects primarily as a special-teams contributor when healthy.

Denver's pricey secondary looks like a waste of money so far

The Denver Broncos are reeling and a big part of the problem is a secondary that's not living up to its reputation or big paychecks

Goes on IR Okwuegbunam (hamstring) has been placed on IR by the Broncos.
Impact With Okwuegbunam slated to miss as least three games, Eric Saubert and Andrew Beck are candidates in the meantime to see increased roles behind Denver's top tight end Noah Fant.

Broncos hoping to play Teddy Bridgewater at Pittsburgh

Teddy Bridgewater took most of the first-team reps at practice Friday and is trending toward starting when the Denver Broncos play the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday

Out for Week 5, may end up on IR Okwuegbunam (hamstring) has been ruled out for Sunday's matchup with the Steelers, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports.
Impact Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports that the Broncos have yet to make a decision on whether or not to place Okwuegbunam on injured reserve. Expect Eric Saubert and Andrew Beck to see increased roles behind Noah Fant in Week 5.
OCTOBER 8, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Not practicing Thursday Okwuegbunam (hamstring) didn't participate in Thursday's practice, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Impact Okuwegbunam suffered his hamstring injury during Wednesday's practice and was unable to take the field Thursday. His status for Sunday's game against Pittsburgh is in question, while Eric Saubert and Andrew Beck will likely see increased roles if the 23-year-old is ruled out.
OCTOBER 7, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Nursing hamstring injury Okwuegbunam was a limited participant at Wednesday's practice due to a hamstring injury, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
Impact Okwuegbunam apparently picked up the injury during the Broncos' loss to the Ravens on Sunday, when he caught one of two targets for 11 yards on 15 offensive snaps. The 2020 fourth-round pick should be able to avoid an injury designation for Week 5 if he can progress to full practice participation within the next couple days.
OCTOBER 7, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Catches one pass Okwuegbunam recorded one reception on two targets for 11 yards in Sunday's 23-7 loss to the Ravens.
Impact Okwuegbunam played on just 26 percent of the Broncos' offensive snaps, which marks his lowest snap share of the season thus far. Starting tight end Noah Fant, however, was on the field for 93 percent of the team's offensive plays, soaked up a team-high 10 targets and scored a touchdown. Denver struggled to get things going on offense against Baltimore, rendering the passing game mostly ineffective outside of Fant's trip to the end zone. As the No. 2 tight end, Okwuegbunam will find it difficult to see consistent usage and production in the Broncos' offense. Mounting injuries to Denver's receiving corps may open up more looks for the 6-foot-5, 258-pounder going forward. The Broncos head to Pittsburgh in Week 5, a game that may feature Drew Lock at quarterback if Teddy Bridgewater is forced to miss time with a concussion.

Broncos keep winning games but losing starters to injuries

The Denver Broncos flipped the script on their sorrowful Septembers of the last two seasons and went 3-0 for their best start in five years
SEPTEMBER 27, 2021 • Associated Press
Catches one pass in win Okwuegbunam caught his lone target for six yards in Sunday's 26-0 win over the Jets.
Impact Okwuegbunam was essentially a nonfactor in the Broncos' blowout win over Jets. Week 3 marks the first time the second-year tight end did not record multiple targets and receptions. With injuries to key pass-catchers Jerry Jeudy and KJ Hamler, it is plausible that Okwuegbunam may see a modest increase in his passing-game usage while they miss time. Nonetheless, the 23-year-old remains largely off the fantasy radar ahead of a Week 4 matchup against the Ravens.
SEPTEMBER 27, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Catches four passes Okwuegbunam secured all four of his targets for 24 yards in Sunday's 23-13 win over the Jaguars.
Impact Through two weeks, Okwuegbunam's involvement in the Denver offense has remained consistent. The 23-year-old played 56 percent of offensive snaps in Week 1 and 54 percent in Week 2. It appears the Broncos' coaching staff is staying true to their desire to get the 6-foot-5, 258-pounder more involved in his second year. Even so, Okwuegbunam is hard to trust in fantasy lineups as he will likely be dependent on touchdowns to provide any sort of value. The tight end's best path to production would come if starter Noah Fant ever has to miss time with an injury. Okwuegbunam and the Broncos get a soft matchup against the Jets in Week 3.
SEPTEMBER 21, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Hits pay dirt in win Okwuegbunam caught all three his targets for 16 yards and one touchdown in Sunday's 27-13 win over the Giants.
Impact Okwuegbunam also lost a fumble at the Giants' six-yard line late in the first half. The 6-foot-5, 258-pounder operated as the No. 2 tight end behind Noah Fant and was efficient with limited opportunities while playing on 56 percent of the team's offensive snaps. Okwuegbunam flashed his impressive athleticism on his one-yard touchdown as he dove for the pylon for the score. The 23-year-old already was a candidate to take a step forward in Denver's offense, so his Week 1 performance should provide the coaching staff with some confidence that he can be a weapon for the Broncos. Fantasy managers, however, should take a cautious approach with the second-year tight end, as it may be difficult for him to see consistent usage in the passing game. Okwuegbunam gets a chance to build upon this outing with a Week 2 matchup against a porous Jaguars secondary.

Teddy Bridgewater throws 2 TDs, Broncos pound Giants 27-13

SEPTEMBER 12, 2021 • Associated Press
Could see role increase Okwuegbunam could see an increased role early in the season, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports.
Impact With starting tight end Noah Fant sidelined with a leg injury since Aug. 19, Okwuegbunam could be called upon to take over the top spot at the position if Fant is unable to return for the season opener. Coach Vic Fangio believes Fant will return for Week 1, but said Okwuegbunam is "definitely ready" to take on No. 1 tight end role if needed. The 23-year-old appears ready to take a step forward in Denver's offense, and it's plausible to think that the coaching staff will look to get him more involved in the passing game. The Broncos used two-tight-end sets for nearly 40 percent of their snaps in the Broncos' preseason finale, which may hint at an intention to also deploy it frequently during the regular season. Nonetheless, it may be difficult for the 6-foot-5, 258-pounder to find a level of consistency in a Broncos offense littered with talented pass catchers. Okwuegbunam's clearest path to fantasy relevance would come if Fant is forced to miss an extended period of time.

SEPTEMBER 1, 2021 • Associated Press
Plenty of work in preseason finale Okwuegbunam recorded three receptions on four targets for 23 yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Rams.
Impact Okwuegbunam got the chance to work with the first-team offense as Noah Fant (leg) remained sidelined. The former remained on the field throughout the first half, with his longest reception of the day going for 12 yards in a connection with Drew Lock. Okwuegbunam is set to enter the team's Week 1 matchup against the Giants as Denver's second-string tight end, though he isn't likely to be heavily involved as a receiver with the likes of Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy, KJ Hamler (illness) and Fant getting the majority of the opportunities.
