Out once again Monday
Cancar (ankle) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Raptors.
Impact
Cancar has appeared in only one regular-season game thus far, during which he played two minutes and logged one rebound in the season-opening loss to the Thunder. The 27-year-old's absence shouldn't cause any waves in the rotation, and his next chance to play will come Wednesday versus the Thunder.

Out Friday
Cancar (ankle) has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Timberwolves.
Impact
Cancar hasn't been part of Denver's regular rotation, so his absence shouldn't impact much. His next chance to suit up will come Saturday versus Utah.

ROTOWIRE
Downgraded to questionable
Cancar (ankle) was downgraded to questionable for Friday's matchup versus the Timberwolves.
Impact
Cancar is dealing with a right ankle sprain, though he hasn't played since the regular-season opener due to his lack of a role in the rotation. The forward was originally deemed probable for Friday, and his questionable tag does not bode well for his status.

Nursing ankle sprain
Cancar is probable for Friday's game against the Timberwolves due to a right ankle sprain, Harrison Wind of TheDNVR.com reports.
Impact
Cancar hasn't suited up in three games due to his current role in the rotation, so even if he is cleared to play ahead of Friday's clash, he's unlikely to see many chances. The 27-year-old has appeared in one game this season, recording one rebound in two minutes Oct. 24 against OKC.

In starting five Sunday
Cancar will step into the starting lineup for Sunday's preseason matchup versus the Celtics, Bennett Durando of The Denver Post reports.
Impact
Cancar will replace Aaron Gordon in the starting five as he is dealing with a minor, undisclosed injury. Cancar is expected to compete for minutes in the second unit, and if Peyton Watson (hamstring) is not 100 percent by the regular season, Cancar will likely see more playing time -- especially if he can impress during the preseason.

Staying in Denver
Cancar has reached an agreement to stay with the Nuggets for the 2024-25 season, Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reports.
Impact
Cancar played with Slovenia during the FIBA Olympic Qualifiers, and he looked healthy after undergoing surgery in August to repair a torn ACL in his left knee, an injury that caused him to miss the entire 2023-24 campaign. In his last healthy season with the Nuggets in 2022-23, Cancar appeared in 60 regular-season games and averaged 5.0 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 14.8 minutes. He should add depth to the Nuggets' frontcourt, though he shouldn't be relevant in most fantasy formats.

Struggles from deep in loss
Cancar tallied 12 points (3-7 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 5-5 FT), four rebounds and one block in Slovenia's 108-92 loss to Croatia on Tuesday.
Impact
Cancar missed the entirety of the 2023-24 season after undergoing surgery in August to repair a torn ACL in his left knee. The Nuggets declined his team option ahead of the 2024-25 season, but they have not ruled out re-signing the 27-year-old. Moreover, his return to game action with Slovenia bodes well for his stock in free agency. Cancar appeared in 60 regular-season games in 2022-23, during which he averaged 5.0 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 14.8 minutes.

Nuggets declining team option
The Nuggets declined Cancar's team option for the 2024-25 season Sunday, Bennett Durando of The Denver Post reports.
Impact
Cancar will become a free agent after Denver declined his team option. The 27-year-old missed the entirety of last season after undergoing knee surgery, and teams will likely have concerns about his injury history. However, Durando relays that there is mutual interest in the Nuggets bringing Cancar back on a minimum contract, which would be mutually beneficial. Across four years with Denver, the forward averaged 3.1 points, 1.5 rebounds and 0.7 assists across 9.1 minutes per game.

Not expected to play in 2023-24
The Nuggets aren't expecting Cancar (knee) to play at any point during the 2023-24 season after the team applied for a Disabled Player Exception from the NBA prior to the Jan. 15 d...
Impact
No reports have indicated that the Nuggets' request was approved by the NBA in the nearly three months since the team filed the application, but it nonetheless confirms that Cancar won't be available for the tail end of the regular season nor Denver's postseason run after he tore the ACL in his left knee in mid-August while playing for Slovenia during an exhibition game in Greece. Cancar acknowledged as much in an interview with Grant Afseth of SI.com in December, when the 26-year-old forward noted that he has turned his focus toward getting healthy for the upcoming summer, when he hopes to resume playing for Slovenia in the 2024 Olympics in Paris if the national team qualifies for a spot in the tournament. Cancar noted in the interview that he's been able to resume running on the court since undergoing surgery on his knee, but it's unclear what he's been able to do in terms of basketball activity in the ensuing three-plus months.

Gets limited playing time Sunday
Cancar (wrist) played six minutes in Sunday's 122-120 loss to the Nets, finishing with zero points (0-3 FG, 0-3 3Pt) and one rebound.
Impact
Cancar was cleared to return from his wrist injury ahead of Friday's game against the Spurs, but he didn't see the floor in a coach's decision in the Nuggets' 128-120 loss. While he received some playing time Sunday, Cancar picked up a flagrant foul and personal foul within a one-minute stretch early in the second quarter and ended up sitting for the entire second half. Cancar looks as though he may be on the fringe of the Nuggets' rotation for the time being.
