According to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, head coach Steve Kerr said after the game that the decision to deploy Porter off the bench was designed to limit him to around 20 minutes due to the forward's recent back issues. Jonathan Kuminga remained in the starting five in his stead and came through with an 18-point, nine-rebound performance while also playing solid defense against LeBron James, so he could continue to be prioritized ahead of Porter. Both Kuminga and Porter are likely to see their roles downsized, however, when Draymond Green (back) eventually returns from an extended absence at some point after the All-Star break.
