Jamal Cain News, Rumors, Updates - Orlando Magic

Season-high 17 points in start Cain finished Tuesday's 136-131 loss to the Cavaliers with 17 points (5-11 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 6-6 FT), six rebounds and three assists across 32 minutes.

Impact Cain moved into the starting lineup, dropping a season-high 17 points, albeit in a losing effort. With both Jalen Suggs (illness) and Anthony Black (abdomen) sidelined yet again, Cain was given the starting nod for the first time this season, and certainly made the most of his opportunity. While we aren't running to add him, he is a name to watch, just in case this performance leads to an increased role moving forward.

Entering starting five Cain is starting Tuesday's game against the Cavaliers.

Impact Cain will draw his first start of the season with both Jalen Suggs (illness) and Anthony Black (abdomen) sidelined for Tuesday's matchup. Cain has appeared in nine games off the bench in March and is averaging 6.4 points and 2.6 rebounds in 13.7 minutes.

Upgraded to standard deal Cain agreed to a standard contract with the Magic on Friday, Jason Beede of the Orlando Sentinel reports.

Impact After joining Orlando on a one-year, two-way deal in July, Cain has been upgraded to a standard contract and will be eligible to play in the postseason. The 27-year-old forward has averaged 3.5 points and 1.1 rebounds in 8.0 minutes per contest across 27 appearances this season. He has logged double-digit minutes in four straight games and could remain in the rotation in the short term while Franz Wagner (ankle), Anthony Black (abdomen) and Jonathan Isaac (knee) are sidelined.

Sticks in rotation Cain provided two points (1-1 FG), three rebounds and one assist across 14 minutes during Monday's 124-112 loss to the Hawks.

Impact Cain remained in the rotation, logging double-digit minutes for the second straight game. After spending the majority of the season on the bench, Cain has been handed a role of late, albeit a limited one. Despite the uptick in playing time, there is no reason to consider him a viable fantasy asset at this point.

Sticks in rotation Tuesday Cain ended with one point (1-2 FT), one rebound and one assist across nine minutes during Tuesday's 144-103 victory over the 76ers.

Impact Cain remained in the rotation, logging minutes for the fourth time in the past five games. To this point, he has offered nothing in terms of tangible production, scoring a total of just eight points during that five-game span. He can safely be left on the waiver wire in all formats.

Inks two-way deal with Orlando The Magic signed Cain to a two-way contract Friday.

Impact After not receiving a qualifying offer from the Pelicans, Cain became an unrestricted free agent, which ultimately led to him joining his new squad. He began his NBA career with the Heat before playing for New Orleans during the 2024-25 campaign. He's averaged 4.8 points and 2.1 rebounds, shooting 45.9 percent from the floor and 33.6 percent from beyond the arc across the 81 games in three seasons in the league.

Pours in 18 points in finale Cain posted 18 points (6-14 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 5-8 FT), four rebounds, one assist and one steal in 28 minutes during Sunday's 115-100 loss to Oklahoma City.

Impact Cain finished as New Orleans' second-leading scorer during Sunday's regular-season finale. The 26-year-old two-way player will be a restricted free agent during the offseason, and he finished the 2024-25 campaign with averages of 5.3 points, 2.3 rebounds, 0.6 assists, 0.6 steals and 0.2 blocks across 13.6 minutes per game in 37 regular-season appearances.

Impact Due to New Orleans dealing with a laundry list of injuries to end the 2024-25 season, Cain has begun to receive increased playing time. The 26-year-old forward recorded season highs in points (25) and minutes played (35) in Friday's blowout loss. For the first time this season, Cain has scored double-digit points in three straight outings.

Posts massive line Cain recorded 20 points (6-15 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 5-5 FT), seven rebounds and one steal in 27 minutes during Thursday's 136-111 loss to the Bucks.

Impact Cain erupted for a career-high 20 points in the loss, stepping up for a New Orleans team that was extremely shorthanded. The Pelicans could get some reinforcements back for the second leg of this back-to-back set, but Cain may have earned himself a longer look in the rotation in the final two games of the regular season.

Impact Cain emerged off the bench to provide instant offense, turning in 15 points in just 16 minutes of action. The 26-year-old has averaged 10.0 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 1.0 three-pointers in 21.5 minutes across his past four games, and Cain could continue playing meaningful minutes from the second unit to close out a losing season for the Pelicans.

Pops for 11 from bench Cain amassed 11 points (4-7 FG, 3-6 3Pt), one rebound, one assist and four steals across 27 minutes during Friday's 124-108 loss to the Lakers.

Impact Cain has been a non-factor during his tenure with the Pelicans, but he's one of a few developmental players who may see an extended run in the final week. After not catching on with the Heat, he's appeared in 32 games for New Orleans this season.

Cracks rotation Saturday Cain ended with five points (1-4 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 2-4 FT), three rebounds, two assists and one steal across eight minutes during Saturday's 146-117 loss to the Rockets.

Impact Cain saw minutes for just the fourth time in the past 11 games, saddling up for eight minutes of garbage time. The Pelicans are focused on nothing but lottery balls, meaning Cain, along with a few others, could at least play a role down the stretch. With that said, it is unlikely to yield consistent production.

MARCH 9, 2025 • ROTOWIRE

Gets 10 minutes off bench Cain finished with three points (1-4 FG, 1-4 3Pt) in 10 minutes during Thursday's 124-116 win over the Suns.

Impact Cain missed the Pelicans' final two games before the All-Star break due to an illness, but he was cleared to play when the team opened its second-half schedule Feb. 21 in Dallas. However, Cain didn't crack the rotation in that game or in any of the Pelicans' subsequent two games before getting a chance to pick up some minutes Thursday. The Pelicans were without one of their key wings in Bruce Brown (rest), but with Brown expected back for the second leg of a back-to-back set Friday in Phoenix, Cain could move back out of the rotation.

FEBRUARY 28, 2025 • ROTOWIRE

Not listed on injury report Cain (illness) is not on the injury report for Friday's game against the Mavericks.

Impact Cain is set to return following a two-game absence due to an illness. However, he hasn't been a regular member of the rotation even when healthy. The three-year forward has been limited to only 21 appearances off the bench this season while averaging 12.3 minutes per game, so his fantasy value is close to minimal.

Out against Sacramento Cain (illness) will not play against the Kings on Wednesday.

Impact Cain has played a total of 24 minutes across two February appearances, so his absence won't carry many fantasy implications. His next chance to play comes Thursday in a rematch against the Kings.

Available to play Cain (illness) is available to play Wednesday against Portland.

Impact Cain will be returning from a one-game absence after missing Tuesday's game versus Minnesota. He hasn't seen the floor since Dec. 15, however, and he's not guaranteed any rotation minutes.
