Amen Thompson - Gets starting nod Thompson will enter the starting lineup for Tuesday's game versus the Pacers, Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact Thompson will replace Fred VanVleet (thigh) in the starting lineup Tuesday. The rookie guard recorded 15 points, 14 rebounds, five assists and one steal in 32 minutes during his only other starting appearance this season.

Fred VanVleet - Likely to miss next four contests Vanvleet (thigh) is expected to be out for another week, with Toronto's matchup with Memphis on Jan. 14 a potential return date, Matt Thomas of SportsTalk 790 reports.
Impact VanVleet has already been ruled out from Tuesday's contest against Indiana due to a left adductor strain and is now expected to miss extended time. Amen Thompson, Aaron Holiday and Cam Whitmore are candidates to receive increased playing time in his absence. Toronto's matchup with Memphis comes right before the All-Star Break, so the Raptors could opt to hold VanVleet out in order to give him more time to recover.

Fred VanVleet - Out with adductor strain VanVleet has been ruled out for Tuesday's game against the Pacers due to a left adductor strain, and his return timetable is unknown, Ben DuBose of USA Today reports.
Impact Depending on the severity, this injury could keep VanVleet out for weeks, but he'll be considered day-to-day until the team releases an update. In VanVleet's absence, Cam Whitmore, Amen Thompson and Aaron Holiday could see increased run, but Jalen Green would presumably take over as the primary point guard.

Impact There weren't many positives in this game for Houston, and Brooks certainly wasn't one of them. He's been slumping in three straight appearances, hitting 33.0 percent of his shots to go with 8.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.7 three-pointers.

Jabari Smith Jr. - Invisible in loss Smith closed with three points (1-4 FG, 1-2 3Pt), two rebounds and one steal across 19 minutes during Sunday's 111-90 loss to the Timberwolves.
Impact This was the third dud in a row for Smith as the Rockets dropped their second game out of their past three. Smith has produced averages of 4.7 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.0 three-pointers on 26.3 percent shooting in that span, his worst stretch of the season by a mile.

Impact VanVleet is in the midst of his worst stretch of the season. The Rockets are 2-3 over their past five games, and VanVleet has shot 39.1 percent from the field in that stretch with averages of 10.6 points, 6.8 assists, 3.2 rebounds, 1.4 steals, 1.0 blocks and 1.4 three-pointers.

Impact The fourth overall pick in the 2023 Draft produced the best scoring effort of his young career, just two games after posting a goose egg in 12 minutes against the Lakers. Thompson's production remains somewhat erratic but he has scored in double digits in six of the last 11 games, averaging 9.3 points, 6.3 boards, 2.7 assists and 1.5 steals over 19.0 minutes a contest during that stretch. His future remains bright, but Thompson's immediate fantasy value is still sketchy.

Impact The Rockets took a 19-point leads into halftime and were able to empty their bench in the fourth quarter, giving Whitmore a chance to post the best scoring numbers of his young career -- topping the 24 points he scored just four games earlier. The rookie out of Villanova fell to Houston with the 20th pick in the 2023 Draft due to long-term health concerns, but as the season has gone on he's looked more and more like a steal. Over the last 13 games he's averaged 14.9 points, 5.1 boards and 2.2 threes over 21.8 minutes a contest.

Impact The third-year center likely would have come away with his fourth career triple-double had the game been closer, but the Rockets emptied their bench in the fourth quarter. Sengun has delivered four straight double-doubles and eight in the last nine games, a stretch in which he's averaging 22.2 points, 10.9 boards, 6.4 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.8 blocks while shooting 56.6 percent from the floor.
