Impact Brooks remains limited to taking part in only light work in practices while he works his way back from the injury he sustained in early January, but Jenkins suggested the swingman would soon take contact in 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 drills before being cleared to rejoin the lineup. Jenkins noted that he was uncertain whether Brooks would immediately reclaim a starting role once healthy, but the 26-year-old should eventually supplant rookie Ziaire Williams on the top unit after he gets a few games under his belt. Expect Brooks to remain out through at least the Grizzlies' Saturday/Sunday back-to-back set against the Magic and Rockets, but a return to the court at some point next week could be in the cards.

Impact When Brooks was first diagnosed with a sprained left ankle Jan. 9, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported that the fifth-year swingman would be sidelined for 3-to-5 weeks. The longer end of that timeline has now come and gone, and Brooks has yet to take any meaningful steps forward in his recovery. Memphis could clear Brooks to resume basketball activities when the team reconvenes following the All-Star break, but even if that's the case, his absence looks like it will extend into next week. The Grizzlies haven't missed a beat sans Brooks, rolling to a 14-5 record while he's been sidelined for the past 19 games.
