Impact After a 16-game absence due to a right hip strain, Powell returned to the floor for Dallas on the road in Tuesday's loss to the Lakers, finishing with two points, five rebounds and one block in 16 minutes. The veteran big man is being brought slowly into the fold for the Mavericks, even though the team needs big bodies, which means he could get held out Thursday against Charlotte.

P.J. Washington Jr. - Questionable for Thursday Washington (ankle) has been listed as questionable for Thursday's game against the Hornets.
Impact Washington is coming off a forgettable performance in Tuesday's loss to the Lakers, where he went scoreless in 35 minutes on the floor. The veteran forward will attempt to bounce back in the scoring column if cleared to play Thursday against Charlotte. If he cannot play against the Hornets, Dallas will likely turn to Kessler Edwards and Naji Marshall to help shoulder the load in the frontcourt.

Dwight Powell - Gets 16 minutes, starts second half Powell (hip) finished with two points (1-2 FG), five rebounds and one block across 16 minutes Tuesday in the Mavericks' 107-99 loss to the Lakers.
Impact Though Powell was on a reported restriction of 10-to-12 minutes as he made his return from a 16-game absence due to a right hip strain, he ended up exceeding that limit. The Mavericks handed the undersized Kessler Edwards another start at center, but Powell replaced him on the top unit for the second half, which could foreshadow a lineup change in the team's next game Thursday versus the Hornets. With all of Anthony Davis (adductor), Daniel Gafford (knee) and Dereck Lively (ankle) out with long-term injuries, Powell should have a good chance at maintaining a regular spot in head coach Jason Kidd's rotation, though Powell won't necessarily be in store for a major spike in playing time even if he replaces Edwards in the starting five. The 6-foot-10, 240-pound Powell brings good size at center is a solid team defender, but he's historically been a poor fantasy producer, with career per-36-minute averages of 13.8 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.9 blocks.

Impact Irving rose to the occasion in Los Angeles as he faced his former teammate, but it wasn't enough to seal a win for the short-handed Mavericks. Irving was once on LeBron James' wish list, but Doncic's arrival and Austin Reaves' standout play makes an eventual reunion for the duo unlikely in the offseason. In the meantime, Irving's output will be essential as the team struggles to stay relevant in the playoff race.
