Gearbox Failure Piastri suffered a gearbox failure and finished 20th in the Hungarian Grand Prix Formula 1 race at the Hungaroring on Sunday afternoon.
Impact An aggressive start from P3 on the grid would see Piastri vault into the early lead. He would control the opening stint of the race up until his lap 34 pit stop. He would rejoin into heavy traffic and have a clash with Carlos Sainz that would put him off his rhythm. He would lose the lead to Lando Norris as a result and ride P2 late in the race. However, his car with slow with 15 laps to go and come to a stop on the course with a gearbox failure. He would be hit with a disappointing DNF in Budapest.

P5 in Belgium Piastri finished fifth in the Belgian Grand Prix Formula 1 race at the Spa-Francorchamps Circuit on Sunday afternoon.
Impact Piastri would start sixth on the grid and would benefit from an early safety car to promote to P4. However, things would get difficult on lap 8 when contact with Charles Leclerc would cause damage to the McLaren. The Stewards would rule it a racing incident and no penalties were issued. Piastri would manage his wounded race car the rest of the way and lose one spot late to finish P5 in Belgium.

Opening Lap Collision Piastri finished 11th in the British Grand Prix Formula 1 race at the Silverstone Circuit on Sunday afternoon.
Impact The McLaren youngster would start eighth on the grid and get off to a strong launch at the lights out. However, he would get into some heavy traffic in turn 6 of the opening lap and be sandwiched between both Racing Bulls drivers. Contact during that scrap would damage Piastri's front wing. An unscheduled pit stop to replace wings would drop him back in the field and the recovery drive would begin. Retirements and safety cars would help aid his move back up through the field to an eventual P11 by the checkered flag.

P4 at Red Bull Ring Piastri finished fourth in the Austrian Grand Prix Formula 1 race at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg on Sunday afternoon.
Impact The McLaren youngster would start seventh on the grid and make one spot on the opening lap by overtaking teammate, Lando Norris. Piastri would then execute a clean, two-stop strategy and engage in running battles with both Ferraris throughout the grand prix. At one point he would even make contact with Charles Leclerc while battling for position. After Piastri's second stop of the day, he would get around Leclerc to forge a strong P4 in Austria.

P5 in Barcelona Piastri finished fifth in the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix F1 race at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on Sunday.
Impact Starting seventh on the grid, Piastri would struggle with grip the entire race but make some headway none-the-less. The young McLaren driver would lose an early-race battle with Charles Leclerc but a fast pit stop on lap 14 would get him pointed back towards the front. Piastri would benefit from the late-race retirements of Leclerc and Kimi Antonelli and would promote to P5 at the checkered flag.

Impact The McLaren youngster started seventh on the grid and was able to promote one spot immediately due to the Max Verstappen mechanical failure. Piastri ran a long opening stint and would pit out of P4 on lap 48. He would be hit, like many others, with a 5-second penalty for speeding on pit lane. However, he had enough pace and with the help of other retirements was able to secure a strong P4 in the Monaco Grand Prix.

Impact Things would get off to a poor start for Piastri in Canada. The team would opt to start the race on intermediate tyres although the track was quickly drying out. This strategy fumble would cause Piastri to pit at the end of lap 1 for slick tyres but he would lose a lot of track position. Later in the race the McLaren youngster would collide with Alex Albon and put the Williams driver out of the race. The stewards would assess a 10-second time penalty to Piastri and that would mire him in the field. He would make a couple late overtakes but could only achieve P11 by the checkered flag.

Third in Miami Grand Prix Piastri finished third in the Miami Grand Prix Formula 1 race at the Miami International Autodrome on Sunday afternoon.
Impact The McLaren youngster would start seventh on the grid after a somewhat disappointing qualifying session. Piastri would get off to a strong start and work his way up the order throughout the grand prix. Good pit strategy would get him in position to challenge for a podium spot and he would secure it on the penultimate lap by overtaking Charles Leclerc after an unfortunate spin. That would put Piastri in P3 and give McLaren a double podium day in Miami.

Piastri would lead the opening 22 circuits until the safety car would be deployed for a heavy Oliver Bearman crash. During pit stops under the safety car, Piastri would lose the lead to Antonelli. From there, he'd chase the Mercedes driver all the way to the finish. It was Piastri's first podium result of the young season.

Impact Friday's second session in Japan would go similar to the first. Charles Leclerc would put down the early fast lap in the session but it would soon evolve into another battle between Mercedes and McLaren. Piastri would post a day's best lap of 1:30.133 to beat Antonelli by one-tenth. That would hold up until the checkered flag and give McLaren some encouraging news as they seem to be gaining some ground on the Mercedes duo. Piastri looks like a podium threat for Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix.
