Runner-up Finish at Darlington
Larson finished second in the Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway Sunday afternoon.
Impact
The Hendrick Motorsports star would have to overcome several obstacles Sunday at the Track Too Tough to Tame, including a pit road speeding penalty at one point. Larson would manage to be a Top-5 driver for most of the day. The final laps would see him reel in leader Martin Truex Jr. but run out of steam in the last laps. Larson would fall 2.5-seconds short of the win but collect an impressive runner-up finish. It was his fifth Top 5 of the season.

Victory Slips Away at Kansas
Larson suffered some bad luck late and finished 19th in the Buschy McBusch Race 400 at Kansas Speedway Sunday afternoon.
Impact
The No. 42 Chevrolet was the strongest car on the track for much of the day in the Buschy McBusch Race 400. Larson led 132 laps and won stage 2 before setting his sights on victory lane. The late caution and restart would derail Larson's apparent victory. The restart would be wild and would see Larson make contact with Ryan Blaney's No. 12 Ford. He would lose a lot of speed and momentum. The Hendrick Motorsports star would tumble from among the leaders to 19th-place over the last 2 laps. The poor finish upset what was otherwise an impressive performance.

Engine Failure
Larson suffered an engine failure and finished 40th in the GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway Sunday afternoon.
Impact
Larson would be the first victim of bad luck on the day in the GEICO 500. The Hendrick Motorsports star was geared up for a run for the win but would run into trouble early. By lap 2 his car was overheating and showing signs of distress. By lap 3 it was apparent the engine was in serious trouble. Larson would pit and be retired to the garage for the day with an engine failure just laps into the 500-mile battle. It was his first DNF of the season and a major blow in the driver point standings.
