Reaches deal with Snakes
Davies agreed Tuesday with the Diamondbacks on a one-year contract worth up to $4.5 million, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.
Impact
According to Heyman, the deal includes a club option for 2023, potentially locking Davies in with Arizona for two years if he impresses during his first season in the desert. With 155 career MLB starts to his name, Davies was one of the more experienced rotation options on the open market, though the 5.78 ERA (5.03 xFIP) and career-worst 5.8 K-BB% he turned in over 148 innings with the Cubs in 2021 doesn't make him especially appealing for fantasy purposes. He'll still likely be in strong position to enter the season as the No. 4 or 5 pitcher in the Diamondbacks' rotation, provided his delayed signing doesn't affect his ability to build up his pitch count over the final two weeks of spring training.

Won't make another start
Davies won't pitch during this weekend's series against the Cardinals, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Davies' final turn through the rotation lined up for Friday's series opener, but he'll instead shut things down after discussing it with the team. The 28-year-old struggled during his first season with the Cubs, posting a 5.78 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 114:75 K:BB over 148 innings, and he's poised to hit free agency during the offseason.

Hit hard in loss
Davies (6-12) lasted just two innings Friday against the Cardinals, allowing six runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out two as he took the loss.
Impact
Davies was slammed right away as five consecutive Cardinals hitters reached base in the first, amounting to three runs. He came back out for the second and allowed a pair of base hits before Tyler O'Neill took him deep to make it a 6-0 advantage for St. Louis. The 28-year-old has had a month to forget, as he's put up a 15.32 ERA, 2.92 WHIP and 9:11 K:BB over 12.1 innings in September. Davies has failed to make it to the third inning in two of his last four starts but is set up for a favorable matchup to end the year with a meeting against the Pirates next week.

Hit hard again Friday
Davies allowed four runs on six hits and three walks while striking out three over 4.1 innings Friday against the Brewers. He did not factor into the decision.
Impact
Davies held the Brewers off the board for three innings but was unable to contain them after that. The 28-year-old allowed five straight batters to reach to kick off the fourth, resulting in three runs for the opponents. He then allowed three of the first four hitters he faced in the fifth to reach before being pulled with the bases loaded and one out. One more run would come in to score that would be charged to Davies. The right-hander allowed 15 earned runs over his last three starts and has not seen the sixth inning since Aug. 20. He now sits at a 5.49 ERA, 1.56 WHIP, and 112:73 K:BB over 146 innings this season and leads all qualified pitchers in walks.

Gives up five in short start
Davies (6-11) allowed five runs on four hits and three walks with one strikeout through two innings, taking the loss in Saturday's 15-4 defeat to the Giants.
Impact
Davies was one strike away from escaping a bases-loaded situation in the second unscathed, but a two-RBI single from Tommy La Stella and a subsequent three-run homer from Brandon Belt spelled the end of the right-hander's day. After compiling a 1.72 ERA in May and a 4.17 ERA over the course of June and July, Davies has a 8.73 ERA over eight starts in August and September. The long ball has also haunted the impending free agent lately, as he's given up 14 home runs in his last eight starts. He conceded just 10 in his first 22 starts of the season.

Roughed up for six runs
Davies allowed six runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out three batters over four innings Sunday against the Pirates. He did not factor into the decision.
Impact
Davies was punished by the long ball Sunday. He allowed a first-inning solo home run to Yoshi Tsutsugo and then a grand slam to Brian Reynolds in the third. Reynolds would chase Davies out of the game in the fifth after leading off with a single and eventually came around to score, charging the 28-year-old with his sixth run of the game. Davies has now failed to reach five innings in seven of his last 11 starts and sits at a 5.16 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 108:67 K:BB over 139.2 innings. He tentatively lines up for a meeting with the Giants his next time out.

Allows one run in no-decision
Davies allowed one earned run on six hits while striking out three across 4.1 innings in the win over the Twins on Tuesday. He did not factor into the decision.
Impact
Davies' only run allowed came in the first inning after he allowed the first two batters to reach. He was pulled with one out in the fifth with the top of the lineup coming to bat. The 28-year-old has had an inconsistent season, but he's allowed just seven runs in his last four starts. He has a 4.91 ERA and 1.48 WHIP with 105 strikeouts in 135.2 innings.

Impact
The right-hander threw 47 of 72 pitched for strikes but was pulled with two outs in the fifth inning. He hasn't earned a win since July 23, going 0-4 with two no-decisions over his past six starts. Over that span, he has posted a troublesome 7.53 ERA and 1.47 WHIP. Davies will try to find his way back into the win column when he next takes the mound, which is likely to be next week at Minnesota.

Charged with 10th loss
Davies (6-10) allowed four runs on five hits and a walk while striking out five in six innings to take the loss against the Royals on Friday.
Impact
Davies began Friday's game by tossing three scoreless innings, but he gave up four solo home runs across his final three frames. The righty has given up at least four earned runs in four of his last five appearances, and he's been charged with four losses across that span. He'll attempt to right the ship in his next start and tentatively lines up to take the mound on the road against the White Sox on Friday.

Impact
Davies had a bit of tough luck, as a Sergio Alcantara error in the sixth inning extended the frame before Brian Anderson launched a three-run home run with two outs. That accounted for the only runs allowed by Davies, who recorded seven or more strikeouts for the third time this season. It was a much-needed good outing for the righty after allowing 14 earned runs across six innings in his last two starts. He's slated to face the Royals on Friday in his next scheduled start.

Surrenders seven runs again
Davies (6-9) took the loss to the White Sox on Sunday, allowing seven runs on seven hits and a walk with five strikeouts in two innings.
Impact
Davies labored immediately, allowing three home runs in the first inning. He surrendered five runs in that first frame and two more in the second to mark consecutive starts permitting seven runs. The 28-year-old righty has now lost three straight starts, allowing 18 runs in 12 innings, causing Davies' ERA to balloon to 5.26 from 4.30 in that span. The one positive has been 22 strikeouts over his last 17.1 innings pitched.
