Impact Davies has been following Joey Lucchesi in the rotation, but with an off-day Thursday, the Padres have elected to skip Lucchesi's spot and roll with Davies on five days rest for Friday's series opener against Arizona. Whether the change indicates a move away from Lucchesi as a starter remains to be seen. San Diego has not yet announced their starter for Saturday, though it stands to reason that Chris Paddack will take the mound that day on regular rest.

Impact After five seasons in Milwaukee, Davies joined the Padres this past winter as part of the Trent Grisham-Luis Urias deal. He pitched well enough to get the win in his team debut, though the Giants' lineup is one of the worst in baseball and this was in San Francisco, so it's hard to get too excited about this performance. Davies is a finesse pitcher who throws 88 mph with a career K/9 a little over 6.0; he will need to be at the very top of his game if he's to achieve a similar result this weekend in Colorado.

Davies will likely be caught by Austin Hedges, as he benefited greatly last year from having an excellent framer (Yasmani Grandal) behind the plate for most of his starts with the Brewers.
