INJURIES

Walked off by White Sox Britton (0-1) blew the save Thursday against the White Sox, allowing two runs on one hit and a walk in one-third of an inning.
Impact After the Yankees had taken an 8-7 lead in the top of the ninth inning, Britton came on to lock things down and quickly retired leadoff hitter Danny Mendick on a groundout. But Seby Zavala worked a walk and Tim Anderson followed with an opposite-field homer to deliver the walk-off win for Chicago. Britton has now blown two of his three save opportunities in the absence of injured closer Aroldis Chapman (elbow). For the season, Britton owns a 6.32 ERA and 1.66 WHIP in 15.2 innings of work.

Earns first save Britton hit a batter in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Wednesday's 5-2 win over Kansas City.
Impact Britton needed 16 pitches (10 strikes) to get through the inning, which ended when Carlos Santana grounded into a double play. This was Britton's first save of the season in 17 appearances -- he's also logged seven holds and two blown saves. With Aroldis Chapman (elbow) on the injured list, the closer role is wide open in the Bronx. In addition to Britton, Chad Green (two scoreless innings for the win Wednesday) and Jonathan Loaisiga (scoreless inning, hold) could be candidates to close out games in Chapman's absence.

Yankees beats Royals for 12th straight series win against KC

Secures seventh hold Britton earned a hold in Thursday's victory versus Seattle by hurling a scoreless inning during which he gave up two hits and struck out one batter.
Impact The southpaw inherited a two-run eighth-inning lead and quickly got into trouble by allowing a double and a single to put runners on the corners with one out. Britton got out of the jam, however, by inducing an inning-ending double play. The veteran reliever has notched a hold in each of his past three outings and appears to be settling in after spending much of the campaign on the injured list. He still owns a poor 5.84 ERA and 1.78 WHIP overall on the season, however.

Reinstated from injured list Britton (hamstring) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Thursday.
Impact Britton had been on the injured list since June 26 due to a left hamstring strain, but he'll be available out of the bullpen beginning Thursday. The southpaw has been limited to just five appearances this season due to his hamstring issue and an offseason elbow procedure, but he could be in the mix for high-leverage chances if Aroldis Chapman continues to struggle during the second half of the year. Britton has posted a 4.15 ERA and 1.38 WHIP in 4.1 innings across his five outings in 2021.

Thursday activation expected The Yankees plan to activate Britton (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list Thursday following the All-Star break, Marly Rivera of ESPN.com reports.
Impact A left hamstring strain has sidelined the reliever since June 26. That and an offseason elbow procedure have limited Britton to five appearances thus far in 2021. He allowed a run in two of the games and has a 4.15 ERA through 4.1 innings of work. If he is activated Thursday, Britton will be back in time for a critical four-game series against the Red Sox.

Progresses to live BP Britton (hamstring) faced three batters in live batting practice Thursday, Randy Miller of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Impact Britton threw a bullpen session earlier in the week and has progressed to facing hitters. Though the work wasn't extensive, it was another step toward his return to the mound. Britton has managed only 4.1 innings across five appearances to this point in the campaign.
