Recalled from Indianapolis Ramirez was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis by the Pirates on Sunday, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.

Impact Ramirez is taking the place of Rob Zastryzny after Zastryzny was placed on the injured list with elbow discomfort before Sunday's game against the Cardinals. In 71 career games the right-hander has forged a 3.89 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP over 85.2 innings of work.

Optioned to Triple-A Ramirez was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday.

Impact Ramirez pitched 27 innings for Pittsburgh last season, posting a 3.67 ERA and 1.30 WHIP. He's struggled this spring, however, allowing 10 earned runs through 5.1 frames, so the Pirates will give him a chance to settle in with Triple-A Indianapolis. If he's able to bring his numbers back down, he could rejoin the Pirates' bullpen during the season.

Impact He was removed from the 40-man roster to open up a spot for outfielder Oscar Mercado, whom the Guardians claimed off waivers from the Phillies. Before he was sent down to Triple-A Columbus on June 25, Ramirez made one two-inning appearance out of the Cleveland bullpen and gave up one earned run on three hits and a walk.
