Impact Ramirez was optioned to Triple-A on June 20 after allowing five earned runs in 2.1 innings across his last three appearances. Since then, he's thrown four scoreless innings in the minors and has now re-earned a spot in the Pirates' bullpen. Luis Ortiz was optioned to Indianapolis in a corresponding move.

Impact Ramirez is taking the place of Rob Zastryzny after Zastryzny was placed on the injured list with elbow discomfort before Sunday's game against the Cardinals. In 71 career games the right-hander has forged a 3.89 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP over 85.2 innings of work.

Impact Ramirez pitched 27 innings for Pittsburgh last season, posting a 3.67 ERA and 1.30 WHIP. He's struggled this spring, however, allowing 10 earned runs through 5.1 frames, so the Pirates will give him a chance to settle in with Triple-A Indianapolis. If he's able to bring his numbers back down, he could rejoin the Pirates' bullpen during the season.
