Keibert Ruiz - Exits after HBP Ruiz exited Saturday's game against the Pirates in the top of the sixth inning after he was hit by a pitch on his helmet, Jessica Camerato of MLB.com reports.

Impact Ruiz went 1-for-3 with a double and three RBI to begin Saturday's contest, but he was immediately removed from the game after he was hit near his jaw area. It's not yet clear whether the injury will force him to miss additional time.

Connor Overton - Recalled by Pittsburgh Overton was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday.

Impact Overton was claimed off waivers by the Pirates on Monday, and he allowed no hits and a walk while striking out two in one scoreless inning during his lone appearance in Indianapolis. He tossed 6.2 scoreless innings across four relief appearances with the Blue Jays earlier in the year but should pitch mainly in low-leverage situations for the Pirates.

Impact Stallings started each of the last two games and went 1-for-7 with a walk and a strikeout. Michael Perez will start behind the plate and bat seventh.

Kevin Newman - Day off Saturday Newman isn't starting Saturday's game against the Nationals.

Impact Newman recorded hits in each of his last four appearances and went 5-for-14 with a home run and three RBI during that time. Cole Tucker will shift to shortstop while Hoy Park draws the start at second base.

Steven Brault - Lands on 10-day IL Brault was placed on the 10-day injured list with a recurrent left lat strain Saturday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Impact Brault was removed from Friday's game against the Nationals due to left arm discomfort, but he's apparently been dealing with a lat issue for some time. He'll miss at least one turn through the rotation, and it's not yet clear whether he'll have enough time to return prior to the end of the regular season. Right-hander Connor Overton was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday, but the Pirates haven't announced who will take Brault's place in the rotation.

Anthony Alford - Goes deep against Nats Alford went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 4-3 win over the Nationals.

Impact The homer was his fourth in six September starts. While Alford's prodigious swing-and-miss component remains -- he's compiled a 6:41 K:BB -- he's slashing .259/.295/.569 in 61 plate appearances since returning from Triple-A on Aug. 7. Although Alford is already 27 years of age, his glimpses of brilliant athleticism could put him on a path to another chance in 2022.
