Blake Rutherford - Hits bench versus southpaw Rutherford is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

Impact Following his call-up from Triple-A Rochester on Friday, Rutherford started in left field in both of the Nationals' matchups with right-handed pitchers this past weekend against the Reds, going 0-for-7 with four strikeouts between those contests. Though the lefty-hitting Rutherford will hit the bench Monday versus the Phillies, he looks like he'll get a trial in the strong-side platoon role in left field that Corey Dickerson had occupied prior to his release last week.

Jake Alu - On bench Monday Alu is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

Impact The trade of Jeimer Candelario and the demotion of Luis Garcia to Triple-A Rochester last week have opened up two spots in the Washington infield, and Alu seems to have a hold on one of those everyday roles. He started in four of the previous five games, going 5-for-14 with a double, five RBI, two runs and two stolen bases. He'll cede his spot to Michael Chavis on Monday, but look for Alu to get the bulk of the starts at the keystone while he's wielding a hot bat.

Impact Ruiz's absence from the lineup doesn't appear to be anything more than a rest day, considering that he made three starts (two at catcher, one at designated hitter) during the Nationals' series sweep of the Reds over the weekend. Riley Adams will step in for Ruiz behind the dish Monday.

Moore began the 2023 season on Dayton's injured list and endured a prolonged shutdown before he was cleared to begin a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on July 8. He was cleared to join Dayton's pitching staff after dominating over his four rehab outings in the ACL, where he tossed four no-hit innings and struck out nine.
