Keibert Ruiz - Leaves loss early Ruiz exited Wednesday's loss to the Diamondbacks in the fourth inning due to a groin injury, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.
Impact A pitch from MacKenzie Gore bounced in the dirt and caught Ruiz in a sensitive area, and the catcher was replaced behind the plate by Riley Adams. Per Golden, manager Dave Martinez says he's concerned about Ruiz, but the issue doesn't seem to be as serious as the one that cost the backstop the final month of the 2022 season. The Nationals are off Thursday, but Ruiz may not be ready to return when the team begins a home series against the Brewers on Friday.

Geraldo Perdomo - Enters late, steals base Perdomo entered Wednesday's game as a pinch hitter and went 1-for-2 with an RBI, a stolen base and a run scored in a 5-4 win over Washington.
Impact Perdomo pinch hit for Kevin Newman in the sixth inning against a right-hander and singled in a run. He then stole a base and scored on a single by Corbin Carroll. The steal was Perdomo's second of the season and first in 21 games. He remained in the game, playing the final three innings at shortstop.

Pavin Smith - Gets start at first base Smith started at first base and went 0-for-4 with an RBI in Wednesday's 5-4 win over Washington.
Impact Smith typically doesn't start against left-handers, but he got the call Wednesday with Christian Walker (oblique) on the 10-day injured list. Kevin Newman started there Tuesday against a lefty, but he spelled Geraldo Perdomo at shortstop Wednesday. Eventually, Josh Bell is expected to take over at first base while Walker is out, which is estimated to be about three weeks.
