CJ Abrams - Swipes bag, plates two Abrams went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI singles and a stolen base during Sunday's 5-1 win over Atlanta.
Impact For the second game in a row, Abrams went 2-for-5 at the plate with a stolen base. However, he drove in two baserunners Sunday on RBI singles in the seventh and ninth innings after failing to log an RBI on Saturday. The 23-year-old is up to 27 stolen bases on the year, which ranks sixth among NL players. Abrams is slashing .249/.321/.441 in 534 plate appearances.

Kyle Finnegan - Logs four-out save Finnegan picked up the save Sunday against Atlanta, allowing one hit and no walks with two strikeouts across 1.1 scoreless innings.
Impact Sunday's save pushed Finnegan's season total to 32, which ranks third in all of baseball. It was just his sixth time throwing more than one inning in 2024 but the third time he's done so in August. While Finnegan sports a 3.51 ERA through 51.1 innings this season, he's been shaky lately, allowing nine runs in his last nine outings (8.2 innings).

DJ Herz - Throws five shutout innings Herz didn't factor into the decision Sunday against Atlanta, allowing one hit and three walks across five scoreless innings. He struck out eight.
Impact Herz was excellent Sunday but didn't qualify for the win as Atlanta tied the game at 1-1 in the sixth inning before Washington pulled ahead late. The outing marked Herz's third time not allowing an earned run, and he hit the eight-strikeout milestone for the fourth time in 14 starts. The 23-year-old has had issues keeping the ball inside the park - posting a 1.4 HR/9 across 65.2 innings - but he's otherwise been impressive. The rookie boasts a 3.84 ERA with 83 strikeouts despite a 2-6 record. Herz is tentatively scheduled to make his next start during a weekend series against the Cubs.

Impact Since returning from the injured list Tuesday, Gallo has started in four of the Nationals' ensuing six games. He'll be making his second start in a row in right field, where he'll be filling in for Alex Call (foot), who was placed on the injured list Saturday. Though Call's injury could put him at risk of missing extended time, Gallo won't necessarily have a clear path to a full-time role for the rest of the season. The Nationals are set to call up prospect Dylan Crews from Triple-A Rochester on Monday, and he could move between right field and center field while poaching starts from Gallo and Jacob Young.

Impact Abrams singled to lead off the third before swiping his 26th bag of the season and his sixth in the month of August. The shortstop would add another leadoff single in the fifth but was again left stranded as Washington's offense failed to get much of anything going in the contest. It marked Abrams' second multi-hit effort in his last five starts, though he's still batting just .197 on the month with three homers, eight RBI and eight runs scored.

Jake Irvin - Can't get through six frames Irvin did not factor into the decision in Saturday's loss to Atlanta, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks over 5.1 innings while striking out three.
Impact Irvin allowed the leadoff man to reach in each of the first two innings to open the contest but managed to escape without allowing any damage on both occasions. However, the lack of command would catch up with the right-hander as he went on to surrender a solo shot to Orlando Arcia on a hanging slider in the fifth before then giving up back-to-back hits to open the sixth. Irvin was then relieved by Robert Garcia with no outs in the frame, who would also proceed to allow back-tb-back hits. The 27-year-old has given up multiple runs in nine consecutive starts, going 2-4 over that stretch while posting a 5.92 ERA. Irvin has also served up at least one long ball in four consecutive outings.

Impact Call was carted off the field in Friday's game against Atlanta falling to the ground while pursuing a fly ball. More tests are needed, but given the nature of the injury, the Nationals could elect to hold Call out for the remainder of the season. It's a brutal blow for the 29-year-old, who was slashing .343/.425/.525 with five stolen bases, nine doubles, three home runs and 14 RBI across 113 plate appearances this season. Dylan Crews is slated to be called up Monday, but in the interim, Drew Millas was recalled from Triple-A Rochester to take the Call's spot on the 26-man roster for the weekend.
