Outrighted to Triple-A The Rockies outrighted Machin to Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday.

Impact Machin was removed from the 40-man roster last week and has since passed through waivers. Because he's been outrighted previously, Machin has the ability to decline the Rockies' outright assignment and become a free agent. However, it's unclear what the infielder's plans are.

Removed from 40-man roster The Rockies designated Machin for assignment Saturday.

Impact With Jose Quintana (elbow) returning from the 60-day IL, a 40-man spot was needed, and Machin ends up as the roster casualty. Machin provides defensive versatility around the infield but little with the bat, as evidenced by his .209/.289/.269 career slash line over parts of five big-league seasons.

SEPTEMBER 19 • ROTOWIRE

Sent back to Triple-A The Rockies optioned Machin to Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday.

Impact Machin appeared in three games after being getting selected from Triple-A Albuquerque on Sept. 5. He went 3-for-6 while striking out twice. He's returning to Triple-A in a corresponding move with the Rockies recalling Braxton Fulford.

SEPTEMBER 15 • ROTOWIRE

Contract selected The Rockies selected Machin's contract from Triple-A Albuquerque on Saturday.

Impact With Willi Castro (plantar fasciitis) moving to the injured list Saturday, Machin will join the parent club to bolster Colorado's infield depth. The 32-year-old has spent the entire season at Albuquerque, slashing .290/.371/.445 with 12 homers, 73 RBI and 61 runs scored across 488 plate appearances.

Misses out on Opening Day roster The Rockies reassigned Machin to minor-league camp Thursday.

Impact Machin will likely begin the season at Triple-A Albuquerque after he was unable to win a utility spot on the Rockies' Opening Day roster. The 32-year-old resurfaced in the majors for the first time since 2022 as a member of the Orioles organization last season, appearing in four games while going 1-for-11 with a solo home run.

MARCH 22 • ROTOWIRE

Nabs MiLB deal with Colorado Machin agreed to a minor-league contract with the Rockies on Sunday, Jorge Castillo of ESPN.com reports.

Impact The deal includes an invitation to big-league spring training, where the 32-year-old will get the chance to compete for a utility infield role on Colorado's Opening Day roster. For the first time since 2022, Machin resurfaced in the big leagues this past season, appearing in four games for Baltimore in late August and going 1-for-11 with a solo home run and a walk. He spent the bulk of the season at Triple-A Norfolk, slashing .286/.347/.476 with 18 home runs and 15 stolen bases across 504 plate appearances.

Accepts outright assignment Machin cleared waivers and accepted an assignment to Triple-A Norfolk, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Impact The Orioles designated Machin for assignment Wednesday, and the 31-year-old will remain in the organization at Triple-A. Machin is slashing .285/.344/.470 in 442 plate appearances with Norfolk this season.

Scrubbed from 40-man roster The Orioles designated Machin for assignment Wednesday.

Impact Machin saw a bit of playing time at third base as the Orioles deal with the absence of Jordan Westburg (ankle), going 1-for-11 with a home run. He's being replaced on the roster by Emmanuel Rivera, and Machin stands a good chance of clearing waivers.

Cracks first homer of year Machin went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Friday's 10-7 loss to the Astros.

Impact Entering the game at third base as part of a double switch in the top of the eighth inning, Machin drove the first pitch he saw from Kaleb Ort in the bottom of the frame over the fence in center field. The utility infielder has just been called up earlier in the day for his first MLB action since 2022, and Friday's blast was just the second homer of his career in 363 plate appearances. With Jordan Westburg (ankle) back on the IL, there might be some playing time available in the short term for Machin, but Jorge Mateo (hamstring) re-started his rehab assignment Wednesday and could be a week or so away from rejoining the roster.

Vimael Machín has made a memorable return to the major leagues

AUGUST 23, 2025 • Associated Press

Back in majors The Orioles selected Machin from Triple-A Norfolk on Friday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Impact The 31-year-old will join the Orioles as infield depth with Jordan Westburg (ankle) landing on the injured list. Machin hasn't seen game action in the majors since 2022 with the A's but has an .814 OPS in 107 contests with Norfolk this year.

AUGUST 22, 2025 • ROTOWIRE

Sent to minor-league camp The Orioles reassigned Machin to minor-league camp Monday, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Impact The Orioles signed Machin to a minor-league contract Nov. 11 after playing in the Mexican League in 2024. He posted an impressive .400/.438/.578 with one home run and 10 RBI across 48 plate appearances in spring training, but he'll likely begin the 2025 campaign in Double-A or Triple-A. Machin last saw major-league action in 2022 with the Athletics, finishing the regular season with a .587 OPS across 73 games.

Gets NRI from Baltimore The Orioles signed Machin to a minor-league contract Monday that includes an invitation to spring training, Jorge Castillo of ESPN.com reports.

Impact Machin, 31, played in the Mexican League in 2024, slashing a ridiculous .401/.495/.579 with seven homers in 85 games. The utility player hit .208/.290/.261 over parts of three seasons with the Athletics from 2020-22.

NOVEMBER 11, 2024 • ROTOWIRE

Sent to minors camp The Phillies reassigned Machin to minor-league camp Thursday.

Impact Machin logged 253 plate appearances at the big-league level with an 102-loss Oakland squad in 2022, but he'll have a tougher time earning reps in the majors with a Phillies team that fancies itself as playoff contenders. After inking a minor-league deal with Philadelphia in January, the 29-year-old is likely viewed as little more than organizational infield depth at Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Reaches deal with Phils Machin and the Phillies agreed Wednesday on a minor-league contract, Melissa Lockard of The Athletic reports.

Impact Machin's deal presumably includes an invitation to big-league spring training that will enable him to compete for a bench spot on the Phillies' Opening Day roster. The 29-year-old played almost exclusively at third base for Oakland in 2022, logging 253 plate appearances and slashing .220/.300/.287 with a 10.1 percent walk rate and an 18.6 percent strikeout rate.

JANUARY 11, 2023 • ROTOWIRE

Becomes free agent Machin elected free agency on Tuesday after being designated for assignment by the Athletics.

Impact After being booted off Oakland's 40-man roster following the trade that sent Sean Murphy to Atlanta, Machin decided to test his luck in the open market rather than attempt to re-earn his spot. With a .551 OPS in the majors and an .870 OPS in Triple-A, the 29-year-old infielder will likely provide organizational depth to the next team that takes a chance on him.

DECEMBER 20, 2022 • ROTOWIRE

Designated for assignment Machin was designated for assignment by Oakland on Monday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Impact After the A's executed a trade on Monday in which they received a total of five players from Atlanta and Milwaukee, Machin had to be DFA'd in order to make room on the club's 40-man roster. The 29-year-old infielder slashed .328/.404/.461 in Triple-A Las Vegas last season. Repeated success in the minors could earn him a spot on the 40-man roster once again.

DECEMBER 12, 2022 • ROTOWIRE

Moved to paternity list The Athletics placed Machin (personal) on the paternity list Monday.

Impact Though Machin can be activated from the paternity list as soon as Tuesday, he'll likely choose to remain away from the team for the final three games of the season while he spends time with his newborn child. The 29-year-old received his first extended playing time to date in the big leagues in 2022, finishing with a .220/.300/.287 slash line to go with one home run, one stolen base, 26 runs and 13 RBI over 253 plate appearances.

OCTOBER 3, 2022 • ROTOWIRE

Heading to paternity list Machin will be placed on the paternity list Monday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Impact Machin was out of the lineup Sunday against the Mariners, and he'll head to Puerto Rico on Monday to be with his wife following the birth of their son. He'll be unavailable for the final three games of the season while on the paternity list, which should lead to increased playing time for Jonah Bride and Ernie Clement. Machin played in a career-high 73 games in 2022 and hit .220 with a homer, 26 runs, 13 RBI and a stolen base.

OCTOBER 3, 2022 • ROTOWIRE

On bench versus lefty Machin is out of the lineup for Sunday's game at Seattle.

Impact Machin started the past four games and will head to the bench after he went hitless during that stretch. Ernier Clement will start at third base against Mariners southpaw Robbie Ray.

OCTOBER 2, 2022 • ROTOWIRE

Resting Tuesday versus lefty Machin isn't starting Tuesday against the Angels.

Impact Machin will get a day off Tuesday against southpaw Patrick Sandoval after going 5-for-18 with four walks over the past six games. While he sits, Jonah Bride will start at the hot corner and bat leadoff for Oakland.

SEPTEMBER 27, 2022 • ROTOWIRE

On base four times in win Machin went 2-for-3 with two walks and three runs in a win over the Mets on Saturday.

Impact Machin was one of several Athletics to make key contributions in the rather surprising upset of the Mets and ace Jacob deGrom. The 29-year-old is now on a two-week tear at the plate that constitutes his best stretch of hitting yet at the big-league level, posting a .343 average and .929 OPS across his last 10 games with four multi-hit tallies along the way.
