On track for opening day roster? Brujan has a good shot at making Chicago's opening day roster in a bench role, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.
Impact Nico Hoerner's recovery from October flexor tendon surgery complicates the picture, as it's unclear if he'll be ready for opening day. If he isn't, the Cubs will need to fill their roster with other players, and Brujan could be on that list. The 27-year-old was shipped to Chicago from Miami in December. Brujan was once a top prospect with Tampa Bay, but he's struggled across parts of four seasons in the majors.
FEBRUARY 11, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Shipped to Chicago The Cubs acquired Brujan from the Marlins on Sunday in exchange for first baseman Matt Mervis, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Miami had designated Brujan for assignment last week, but the 26-year-old utility man will regain a 40-man roster spot with the move to Chicago. Once viewed as one of the top prospects in the Tampa Bay system during his time in the minors, Brujan has slashed a woeful .189/.261/.270 (50 wRC+) across 550 plate appearances in the majors with the Rays and Marlins over the last four seasons. Though the change of scenery could help get his development back on track, Brujan profiles as a bench bat at this stage of his career, with most of his value coming from his ability to play all over the infield and outfield.
DECEMBER 29, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
DFA'd by Fish The Marlins designated Brujan for assignment Friday, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports.
Impact Brujan played in a career-high 102 games last season, during which he slashed .222/.303/.319 with 16 RBI and five stolen bases. However, he'll now have to give up his spot on Miami's 40-man roster after the team signed Eric Wagaman to a one-year deal Friday. Brujan's defensive versatility could draw interest from other teams on the waiver wire, though chances are he begins the season in Triple-A.

SEPTEMBER 19, 2024 • SUNHERALD.COM
Reinstated from injured list The Marlins activated Brujan (shoulder) from the 10-day injured list Thursday, Isaac Azout of FishOnFirst.com reports.
Impact Brujan has been out all month with a right shoulder AC joint sprain but is ready to return after playing a couple rehab games with Triple-A Jacksonville. He should see a good amount of playing time down the stretch in a super utility role.
SEPTEMBER 19, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Resumes baseball activities Brujan (shoulder) resumed taking part in baseball activities last weekend, MLB.com reports.
Impact Brujan landed on the injured list Aug. 31 with a right shoulder AC joint sprain, an injury that manager Skip Schumaker said had been bothering the 26-year-old for much of the season. Though Brujan is showing daily improvement, it's not clear whether he'll have enough time to fully heal from the injury before the Marlins' season ends Sept. 29.

AUGUST 31, 2024 • STAR-TELEGRAM.COM
Placed on injured list The Marlins placed Brujan on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a right shoulder AC joint sprain.
Impact Brujan has gone 5-for-20 with two RBI and two runs scored over his last five games, but he will now have to sit out until at least Sept. 10 as a result of his shoulder injury. Jose Devers was selected from Triple-A Jacksonville in a corresponding move and is a candidate to see time at shortstop while Brujan is out, though Xavier Edwards (back) would almost certainly reclaim an everyday role if he's able to make it back from the IL before Brujan.
AUGUST 31, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Filling in for injured Edwards Brujan will start at shortstop and bat eighth in Monday's game against the Rockies.
Impact Brujan will pick up a third consecutive start at shortstop in place of Xavier Edwards (back), who was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday. The Marlins opted to call up an extra outfielder (Griffin Conine) from Triple-A Jacksonville rather than an infielder to replace Edwards on the active roster, so Brujan looks like he could have a clear path to a full-time role while Edwards is on the shelf. Brujan flashed an interesting blend of power and speed during his time in the minors, but he's produced an underwhelming .638 OPS over 259 plate appearances with Miami this season and hasn't been efficient on the basepaths (five stolen bases in 10 attempts) either.
AUGUST 27, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Heading to bench Wednesday Brujan is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies.
Impact Brujan will hit the bench for the series finale in Philadelphia after he had started in each of Miami's last three games while going 1-for-8 with a solo home run and a walk. The switch-hitting Brujan should have a regular spot in the lineup versus left-handed pitching, but his spot in the starting nine against right-handed pitching might not be fully secure just yet.
AUGUST 14, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Sitting Friday Brujan is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Padres.
Impact Brujan will be on the bench against the Padres, who'll start southpaw Martin Perez. Brujan has now been absent from the starting lineup in four consecutive games against left-handed pitching despite having a better OPS (.636) against lefties than righties (.616) this season.
AUGUST 9, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Absent from Wednesday's lineup Brujan is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds.
Impact Brujan has now been out of the lineup each of the last three times the Marlins have faced a left-hander. He's started just two games in center field and five of 12 overall since the Jazz Chisholm trade. Cristian Pache will be in center field Wednesday.
AUGUST 7, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
On bench Tuesday Brujan is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Reds.
Impact Brujan drew the start in center field Monday -- a position he could see regular work at moving forward -- but he'll take a seat Tuesday in favor of Cristian Pache. The pair are likely to share center field duties, but Derek Hill could mix in at the position.
AUGUST 6, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Gets start in center field Brujan went 0-for-3 with a walk in Monday's loss to the Reds.
Impact Getting the start in center field and batting eighth, Brujan made little impact at the plate, but his arrow is pointed up for fantasy purposes. The 26-year-old switch hitter is batting .231 (6-for-26) since the All-Star break with three doubles, a steal, an RBI, five runs scored and a 6:7 BB:K, and with Nick Gordon booted off the roster, Brujan will compete with Cristian Pache and Derek Hill for playing time in center field.
AUGUST 6, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Sitting for third time in four games Brujan is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Atlanta.
Impact On the bench for the third time in four games, Brujan looks to have moved into a utility role after he had previously handled a near-everyday role for most of July. Brujan's downturn in playing time comes while he's gone 2-for-16 with a 3:3 BB:K over his last seven contests.
AUGUST 4, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Not in Thursday's lineup Brujan isn't in the Marlins' lineup for Thursday's game against Atlanta.
Impact Brujan will get a breather Thursday after going 2-for-4 with two runs scored during Wednesday's win over the Rays. Kyle Stowers, Nick Gordon and Forrest Wall will start across Miami's outfield while Brujan sits.
AUGUST 1, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Out of lineup Brujan is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's series finale against Milwaukee.
Impact Brujan will begin Sunday's game in the dugout after going 0-for-2 with two walks and one run scored in Saturday's 7-3 win over the Brewers. Nick Gordon will start in center field and bat eighth.
JULY 28, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Nabs steal in Sunday's win Brujan went 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and a stolen base in Sunday's win over the Mets.
Impact Getting a start in center field and batting eighth, Brujan recorded his first multi-hit performance since May 17. The 26-year-old utility player could find himself in a much more prominent role if Jazz Chisholm gets moved at the trade deadline, but Brujan doesn't offer much fantasy appeal given his .228/.305/.328 slash line over 201 plate appearances and a poor 4-for-7 showing on the basepaths.
JULY 22, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Heading to bench Wednesday Brujan is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros.
Impact Brujan has emerged as the Marlins' primary option at the keystone since Otto Lopez (back) was placed on the injured list last week. Though Jonah Bride will get the nod at second base Wednesday, Brujan had started in each of the previous seven games while going 3-for-23 with two doubles, one stolen base, four walks, six runs and two RBI.
JULY 10, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
On base three times Sunday Brujan went 1-for-2 with two walks, a double, two runs scored and an RBI in Sunday's win over the White Sox.
Impact The 26-year-old infielder has scored a run in four straight games, reaching base seven times during that stretch on a single, two doubles and four free passes. Brujan is still slashing just .227/.308/.331 on the season, but he could be finding a groove at the plate with consistent playing time -- he's started six straight games at second base since the Marlins cut loose Tim Anderson at the beginning of the month and placed Otto Lopez (back) on the IL.

JULY 7, 2024 • Associated Press
Swipes bag in Friday's loss Brujan went 1-for-4 with a double, a run scored and a stolen base in Friday's loss to the White Sox.
Impact The 26-year-old infielder has started four straight games at second base with Otto Lopez (back) on the IL, but Friday's two-bagger was Brujan's first hit in 15 at-bats during that stretch. He did display some speed earlier in his career, swiping 55 bags between Low-A and High-A in 2018 while still in the Rays' system, but Brujan doesn't get on base often enough to show whether he still has that in his arsenal. Through 174 plate appearances this season, he's slashing just .222/.293/.323 with a homer, eight RBI, 20 runs and three steals in six attempts.
JULY 6, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Back in action Brujan (undisclosed) is batting eighth and playing third base Tuesday against Boston.
Impact Brujan was scratched from Saturday's game against Philadelphia for unspecified reasons and remained out of the lineup for Sunday's contest. However, he'll enter the starting nine at third base Tuesday while Xavier Edwards plays shortstop. With Tim Anderson booted from the 40-man roster, Brujan should see regular playing time in the infield moving forward.
JULY 2, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Scratched Saturday Brujan was scratched from the Marlins' lineup ahead of Saturday's game versus Philadelphia, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact The Marlins have not yet provided a reason for Brujan's removal from the lineup, but the team should offer some clarity in the near future. In the meantime, Jake Burger will shift to third base for Brujan while Josh Bell moves to first, allowing Jesus Sanchez to enter the lineup as Miami's DH.
