Claimed by Rays The Rays claimed Mesa off waivers from the Marlins on Friday, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports.

Impact Mesa made his big-league debut in 2025, appearing in 16 games with the Marlins and slashing .188/.297/.344 across 38 plate appearances. The 24-year-old had a strong .887 OPS across 171 plate appearances at Triple-A Jacksonville in 2025. The young outfielder will look to compete for a spot on the Opening Day roster.

Impact The left-handed-hitting Mesa was on the bench against Mets right-hander Kodai Senga in his first game with the Marlins after being recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville on Aug. 31, but the young outfielder has now cracked the lineup for five straight matchups with righties. Impact They also reassigned Justin King (adductor), Woo-Suk Go (finger), Freddy Tarnok (ankle), Ryan Ignoffo and Jakob Marsee (oblique) to minor-league camp. All but Ignoffo are currently injured and there are fewer reps to go around in Marlins camp.
